Honestly, a 3.8GHz Cell with 4 PPEs and 32 SPEs would be pretty awesome.

I don't know if I would say *never* but it is still more than a console generation away.

The amount of memory doesn't affect the actual speed of the memory used. Now if you're saying they should use some newer version of XDR capable of running at even higher speeds, why not just use DDR5 instead?

The XDR used in the PS3 runs at 3.2GHz and gives the Cell 25.6GB/s of memory bandwidth. An i7 with 1600MHz DDR3 running in Tri-channel mode will have 38.4GB/s of memory bandwidth.

A CPU won't be idle if developers actually take advantage of it;...

A Core i7 with triple channel DDR3 can achieve a lot more memory bandwidth than the PS3's 256MB of XDR memory, but that doesn't mean MLAA is worth running on a CPU when you've got a powerful GPU more than capable of handling real anti-aliasing.

I still have my original Doom II CD-ROM from 1994.

This game is very impressive considering it's running on a handheld that first released in Japan almost 6 years ago.

Interesting as IGN gave it a 9.5

Honestly, the graphics look fantastic considering it's a handheld, and the PSP first released almost 6 years ago. If the game is anything like Chains of Olympus, it should be a blast.

Their market cap is a lot higher than Sony's, but so is Microsoft's.

I don't think Apple will buy Sony as they already sell similar products, and even if they can afford it, I don't really see how it would help them. Right now the Apple brand name is very strong, but the Sony name is pretty strong as well.

If they did buy Sony, would they stop using the Sony name? If so, what would have been the point in buying them? If they keep the Sony na...

The GTX 460 is a great value, but it's unfortunate that Nvidia still does not have an angle-independent anisotropic filtering algorithm. Also the Radeon 6870 seems to beat the GTX 460 in pretty much everything aside from maybe Unigen's Heaven Benchmark, so prices should drop all around.

If it's coming out within the next 4 months it's still going to 40nm. TSMC 28nm process won't be ready until a few months into 2011, but when that happens I would expect to see some real GPU refreshes.

Yeah, they'll definitely have more options, but I think the declining Wii sales are the result of a stagnating price point and lack of in-demand software compared to the PS3 and 360.

Is sub-30fps average what you call performing well?

It's nice to see both versions are really about equal, but I'd also like to see them both maintain 30fps. The beginning is pretty bad, but the performance does improve later on I guess.

I do not think that either Move or Kinect will steal much of the Wii audience, at least not until we get some serious game support for both peripherals.

You mean medium / high details? A Radeon 5770 is still capable of running most games out at max or near max detail settings.

The Cell processors does not handle pixel shading better than the Xenos, or even the RSX. It might have the extra power to give the PS3 the edge overall, but it is in no way more powerful than a dedicated GPU.

You really should have uploaded those image in a format like .png instead, as the compression makes it difficult to see how good or bad the anti-aliasing really is.

I was a little disappointed to see that the 6870 still struggles with tessellation a lot more than Nvidia's Fermi-based offerings, leading me to believe ATI made no changes to their tessellation units. Still, these cards offer remarkable gaming performance for the price. The 6970 should be more interesting when it is unveiled in the next couple of months.

MLAA was actually developed by Intel years before it was used in God of War 3.

Cool idea, but MLAA only makes sense on a console where real anti-aliasing creates a massive performance hit. I'd rather have 8x adaptive anti-aliasing any day of the week, but more anti-aliasing options are nice.

All of my computers have HDMI, so I can use them on the same TV as my PS3 and 360.

Also, try finding a console game that can top PC exclusives like Crysis and Starcraft 2.

Mag had to make some serious graphical concessions to achieve that high of a player count with large maps. Battlefield 2 on the other hand was amongst the best looking games when it came out, and as a result had some pretty high RAM requirements.
