Fair point Lawson72.
Red Dead is one of my all time favorites and its a shame that the PC missed out. Thats why i bought a PC though, so i have two platforms (PS3) and miss out on very little, only Xbox exclusives really.
That aside, they take their time with their games, put an insane amount of effort into them, never release them unfinished, make great dlc, never jump on the band wagon of whats hot at the time etc... They make quality goods and treat their consumers with r...

Exactly. Thats why i have so much respect for Newell and Valve, they think outside the box and look at problems differently from most other devs and publishers. They are also a perfect example of the authors last point "Use brand communities", they listen to and treat the community with respect that is severely lacking from other devs/publishers.

When i built my 1st PC before Christmas i had every intention to pirate games, there was so many games i wanted to play a...

The video does look really nice and who wouldn't want games looking like that. But whats the point of having these beautiful worlds when the gameplay is poor.
I think a lot of people are going to be disappointed with the next-gen graphics. The jump from PS2 to PS3 was immense graphics wise, but it wont be like that this time around.
There will be a big improvement, but most of the improvement will come in the shape of processing power, things like AI, animations, the worl...

You forgot Rockstar, them and Valve are the best devs out there.

GTA takes longer due to the immense detail and research that goes into a GTA game.

GTA is the daddy of gaming, Saints Row is some ugly bastard child he had as a result of a drunken night once.

Jon Snow is a good bastard, Saints Row isnt.

Yeah, i dont know....

Yeah i love the shape and feel of the 360 controller. Dont know about the placement of the analog sticks though, its not like i find it uncomfortable or anything, but it comes back to shooters again for me where with the looseness of the DS3's sticks but also the placement of them both right beside each other seem to suit quick reactions better, for me at least.

Of course, you're gonna have guys who have the exact same problems with the DS3 controller, so its down to ...

Hate the way the title says it like it's fact, but i should be used to this by now.

Anyway, 3 good games but im not a huge fan of them myself, but they do have big fanbase and the 3 of them offer a nice variety.
God knows what they'll release on launch. Killzone 4, Last Guardian, a MM game, MGS5, InFamous 3, Dark Souls 2, Motorstorm, Agent and FIFA or PES would be an amazing line-up.

I agree regarding the touchpad, if it is that which it surely has to be. Lets say you get a message, double-tapping the pad could open the message up in the corner with a transparent background so it doesn't obstruct much, sliding up and down your finger would scroll it and double-tap again to close.
I would love that as reading a message on the ps3 during gameplay is a pain, especially when playing online, most of the time its suicide to read the message during the likes of cod o...

Yeah, if Gabe comes up and says "You're fired!", you just stand up and say "No, you're fired, ya bastard!".

But then that could just go on and on forever and ever amen.

Not a bad list.
I completely understand the need for recording, i hate when i do something mental or hilarious in games and then cant show anyone.
5 and 4 will be standard next gen.
The upgrade in RAM will solve the slow loading XMB, although the PS4 will surely have more stuff going on in the background than the PS3, but still with the rumored RAM this shouldn't be a problem at all. SSD will speed up startup times, loading games and loading within games, but unles...

Depends on how much RAM is being used, that's whats responsible for how fast the XMB pops up, considering the huge upgrade, supposedly, for PS4, that shouldn't be a problem anymore.

Thats why i like Cage, Rockstar and Valve, to name a few, as game developers. They just make what they want, go with their own flow and resist jumping on the "whats selling" bandwagon.
Thats why i also feel that Indies are so important to gaming evolving, as devs are free to be creative and take risks, something that the bigger devs cant do because of the pressure from publishers.

Personally, with the likes of Greenlight, Ouya and kickstarter, the future loo...

Well i always loved the simple experience of getting up early on a certain games release date, head into town, buy the game, head home, opening the plastic wrapping, checking out the game box and having a glance at the manual and then finally popping in the game. Its such a straightforward procedure but its just a habit i grew to like, like a small tradition. Im also a hoarder and have a huge collection of PS3 games, could never trade in games.

Then again, i also got a gaming...

Open mindedness is a very uncommon trait, people have their views and become very defensive when they are challenged by others. Especially when a guy considers himself very knowledgeable and competent at something, then he is going to be very closed minded and defensive when people challenge his views and ways of doing things and this goes double for when newcomers do.

This is what leads to these elite communities or elite bunch of members on certain sites, who are very aggre...

See, thats "your" definition..... but also one i agree with really.
Like i said how in my head i tag guys who keep up with the gaming news and know what im talking about when i start mentioning gaming lingo, they're the guys who i feel are "real" gamers, that would be my own definition. But yeah, you kinda hit the nail on the head for me, people who care about the medium, thats who i consider "gamers".

Great post, you kinda strayed from you point when you started talking about the "D" games and giving your view about them, that was for a whole different argument, the whole opinion vs fact argument regarding reviews and overhyped games etc..

But nonetheless, i enjoyed reading this and completely agree. By definition its simple, gamers are people who play games. But people have a way of complicated and changing definitions to suit themselves.
I also shared y...

Good point regarding play-time.
I always considered RPGs time soaking games, i spent a hell of a lot time playing Fallout 3, Oblivion, etc... i reckon around 50hrs, im not sure but its way more that any other game.
Then i play Demon Souls, which i spent good hours on but when i finished it i was eager to play Dark Souls and the amount of time i put into that game is ridiculous when compared to any other game, i have 4 characters and for 3 of them i have over 100hrs logged in, ...

I agree, i played Demon Souls first, i never once played online since i was too late to the party, but nonetheless, because i didn't play Dark Souls i didn't know what i was missing and i had great experience. Demon Souls was definitely more immersive, the way the world pulls you in and you are completely focused when playing. At times it was horrifying, nerve wrecking etc... but all in a good way, a thrilling way. For example, the most haunting level ive ever played was the prison. I...

I think Dark Souls is the better game, but i had the better, and unforgettable, experience with Demon Souls. If that makes sense.

Either way, two of my favorite games this gen, well actually ever, really. It was a shining light of an old school adventure game and originality that shone thru all the grayness and sameness of fps's and blockbuster games/movies that we've seen this generation.

Great review, its always nice to see other people who apprecia...
