The past is not a prediction for the future. There is a pattern, but it doesn't mean it has to follow. It really depends on what MS is showing compared to the competition.

Also, there are some gaps in the history of Sega console releases such as Sega Mega Drive (aka Genesis in the US) so it doesn't exactly follow that pattern. It seems only to follow that pattern if a company is dominating. Sega really never dominated as far as I can remember.

First of all, does anyone really care after 4-years?

Secondly, MGO was just shut down and now they re-release MGS4? Although they aren't necessarily related, it just seems odd.

I have a feeling this is false.

That does look poor, but using free programs is something companies do from time to time. There is a little thing called "open source" software, companies seem to use all the time.

XD

I think with a high core count, a dedicated core to the OS at all times is great. I hate how I want to listen to a message or try to join a party, it takes a while to pull up the guide menu.

More power to games will create negligible differences. Next generation will be more about overall experience than pure graphical power. Otherwise, PC would have won a long time ago!

Make the console even more convenient to use!

I don't see how this will be any different than most other Android devices, except it has a controller. Most games on Android are made with a touch screen in mind. On top of that, this is cheap hardware and the *free* part, means only some gameplay is free. A demo would qualify as part of *free*.

I guess if developers will support it, it will at least circumvent the nasty fragmentation issue to some degree affecting Android.

I always thought it wasn't even possible to region lock on PS3 games.

It's relatively good for console manufacturers, but not so good for publishers/developers.

The saturation of games, means new games are having a harder time selling and the average selling prices of games are going down, down and more down!

I also agree that the lack of excitement in the console area has driven people elsewhere (with the exception of Kinect).

I think we are way past time for a new console generation though!

I keep hearing about Bastion, so I will have to give the demo a try!

LOL!

Sony doesn't talk smack?

Have we forgotten the father of Playstation?

Some of his choice quotes:

"Beating us for a short moment is like accidentally winning a point from a Shihan [karate master], and Microsoft is still not a black belt."

"one cannot expand the current console gaming world by merely raising the graphic resolution and processing power of past consoles. The result of that...

I think it has more to do with market saturation.

Games are too cheap and there are far too many options for people to really care about the latest releases. They are also significantly cheaper, so this decline is natural.

In terms of console sales, MS posted really strong numbers around Christmas time and that should have born some results right around now. I just think the increase isn't enough to offset the decrease elsewhere.

360 means all around you! Which frankly it kind of is now.

@Bathyj:

How is it childish? It's called smart marketing as opposed to "stupid" marketing, but clearly you missed that part.

Yeah, but the 8 on it's side is a cool name. Xbox Infinite!

I secured two Gamertags and PSN ID each, both which I use. They are identical across both services, but I use one of the id's more than the other.

The nice thing about XBL is that they recycle the names after a long period of dormacy. Of course they will never recycle a paid subscription. On top of that, I find XBL suggest plenty of random, but good gamertags.

One of them I think was something along the lines of relatedcorn. Not great, but easy to read an...

@Diver:

Right! /s

You haven't given a shred of evidence to back up your claim. I have given you plenty of reasons why it won't happen.

OnLive and Gaikai isn't some new technology. They have been around for years, and it's gotten them nowhere. OnLive went from subscription service, to free game purchase, and finally to super cheap games!

"Gaikai can indeed offer a next gen experience if you have the bandwidth."

What you need isn't just bandwidth! Low bandwidth just means the picture will be reduced in quality similar to how Netflix adjust quality.

The main problem is latency, even on an excellent connection (I have a 10MBPS symetric line right now where I am staying). That is why people with super high MBPS still get laggy online games.

It is the way internet ...

I'm surprised by this, because Google tends to be pretty open. Maybe they didn't want to upset their third parties, so leave them room to compete....

Google is becoming the MS, and MS is becoming Apple while Apple is starting world domination! XD

Agreed!

There are far too many restrictions to be a gaming machine, unless you mean a "casual" gaming machine. I can agree with that, but I already do that on my phone and it has 16GB.

4994d ago 1 agree1 disagreeView comment

What people don't get is that the bandwidth (what you read as MBPS) isn't just the only factor that affects your experience.

You need a minimum bandwidth, which in many parts of the western (and Asian) world is fine. A reliable 3 MBPS stream is fine. The main problem is consistency, and almost nobody has consistent internet speeds. It is actually built that way on purpose to avoid lost data during network disruptions. Remember internet was built by the military.

@Hicken:

That's easy!

You don't *need* a tablet. SmartGlass works on iPhones, iPads, Android devices, Windows Phone, and Windows. Most likely you already own one of those devices.

To utilize SmartGlass there is literally almost no cost, while a PS Vita cost $250 + the cost of a memory card (which is basically a requirement). If you already have one (or want one) then that's fine, but it certainly is a small minority of the PS3 pop...
