@ddkshah:

I'm sorry to burst your bubble, but the fact is Sony is worth (i.e. it's market cap) $12.92 billion.

Anyone with a half brain can read that here:

http://finance.yahoo.com/q?...

Hint: It's listed under market cap!

No amount of making up random numbers will change that!

This is well covered by respected f...

@aiBreeze:

That's funny because EA Sports is a major supporter of Kinect!

A huge portion of EA is casual gaming to boot!

Sounds to me like EVILDEAD360 is actually correct!!!

Kind of surprised by this, but ease of access certainly is a good thing for Xbox 360 owners.

I always buy my points on sale usually at least 25% discount and that is why I prefer points over actual dollar value. I have tons of points stocked up and ready!

@Dante112:

You clearly don't know how finances and stock market work. A public company's value is dependent on it's stock value at that time.

Your sources indicate the value as $20 billion back in March-April, which it roughly was:

@Dante112:

You can't go googling, which will likely get you old or incorrect data (due to rounding etc).

The market cap is the cost of buying all outstanding shares of a company and is the public consensus of the equity of the company.

@MasFlowKiller:

A 25% stake in a company is a minority stake. You don't get to make decisions, but rather influence them. However, the company doesn't have to take your minority stake's ass suggestion!

However, if you own a 60% stake (assuming that translates to votes, which I'm feel pretty sure does cause it would be idiotic otherwise) you get to call the shots!

However, fear not, MS wouldn't buy ATVI as their business is...

I think MS would buy Sony for those $10 billion instead of Activision. That is a little less than what Sony is worth right now. Of course doing so will require taking over Sony's liabilities, including half a decade worth of losing businesses.

That said, isn't it crazy that Activision-Blizzard is worth more than Sony? Not by a whole lot though, but still f'in crazy!

I think Nintendo will loose that impact they did with the Wii, but Nintendo is about safe moves i.e. even if the Wii U does poorly the company will be fine with a profit off every Wii U.

That is how they survived all this time! If Wii U ain't it, Nintendo will come back with something new and different. They always do!

Well that is the problem services like Gaikai and OnLive faces.

I think a sensible solution is to make a game both single player and online based i.e. a portion of it offline experience with a huge online experience. Heck some kind of hybrid, i.e. things you can do offline and bring it online.

Problem of course are cheaters.

Actually MS hasn't said anything about the next Xbox at all!

However, including something you won't use doesn't exclude you being able to use other things.

Similarly providing a feature, doesn't exclude other features. A focus on some things doesn't exclude the focus on others.

You should actually wait until MS (or any other console manufacturer for that matter), release more information before ...

For $10 billion, MS could almost buy the entirety of Sony and get rid of a competitor!

MS won't buy Sony (SNE) so relax, besides the FTC probably wouldn't allow that nor would MS want all of Sony's liabilities of a unprofitable business in the last half decade.

MS buying Activision doesn't make sense either, because they would be buying a huge portion of a business they don't want to support i.e games on Sony and Nintendo consoles. Also, i...

I'm surprised to why MacDonagh got so many disagrees. Maybe there is a multiple account thing going on here. People do stupid stuff like that.

That said, why would anyone want a franchise they don't like to die? If you don't like it, don't buy it, don't play it and ignore it!

There are fans of those games that others would like to play.

Then why do you care about hardware sales then?

Clearly you two are both talking about sales, just different items! XD

I'm feel confident MS knows what they are doing and what they need to do to push the next Xbox. They have recently shown lots of great promise with Windows 8, Windows Phone 8, Surface, Kinect and Xbox 360.

Remember when MS was the laughing stock in the gaming industry only to unseat Playstation? That is no ...

Customer loyalty is only part of the equation. Otherwise, you would have never seen the fall of Nintendo, Sega and Sony.

It's part customer loyalty, but more importantly providing a product that is valuable to the consumer relative to the competition. Keeping yourself relevant.

Also, when I say value, I mean usefulness and desire relative to price! I also agree with the article, migrating the existing online community efficiently is a huge factor.

I don't think the gamerscore is an issue, but they can always reset everything and subscript with the old one. Sony will in some ways face the same issue.

That said MS has already migrated the community once and they are actively bringing things closer to PC now, so I don't see this as an issue.

Heck, the old Games for Windows initiative had PC gamers chatting with Xbox Live gamers.

I don't know about Sony, their strategy has bee...

It didn't just fail because of refusion to digital and pricing. It was far more than that including inferior product at a significantly higher price tag than their other product, PSP-3000. To top it off, the support was abysmal and PSP Go customers was tr...

You just upset the PSN fanboy crowd.

It is true that Steam sales are really good making both offerings on Xbox Live and PSN pale in comparison. It also illustrates how much faster Steam can change with the times, while console makers are still stuck in the ancient age.

I think shit happens to any company as devices get more and more complex, but the important thing is how the company handles it!

MS: Did wonderful on the 3-year warranty, but really should have acknowledge the problem sooner. I guess their sales would have taken a huge hit though.

Sony: Never acknowledged the DRE, settled after a lawsuit and the people affected only got a $20-35 if they had a receipt years later i.e. their PS2 was left as a brick.
