LOL!

Ever heard of Azure? Hypervisor? These are technologies to combat Amazon EC2 and VMware.

MS is huge within cloud! They don't need to buy anything, they already have a cloud service.

Sony on the other hand still can't upgrade their network without taking it down. It's constantly "under maintenance" so yeah, they need it!

I don't think Gaikai is worth the cost, but I'm glad at least Sony see t...

"Think about the different factors involved - users are guaranteed to have an unreliable connection, but you can't let that affect gameplay. How about latency? Distance to servers? Dynamic Compression? How about variations in bandwidth and network load?"

You mean how this is something people have implemented all along with online video services and multiplayer games?

This isn't some vodoo technology and is someth...

Why?

Only an idiot complains about features they did NOT get because THEY DID NOT PAY FOR. Lack of hard drive is a great option for people that don't want or care for a hard drive.

I wonder what kind of amazing features we would have if consoles would have more RAM, more CPU and more GPU? i.e. stupid to postulate when the console with a hard drive standard barely uses it on their exclusives other than as a cache for the slow blu-ray drive.

@Neko_Mega:

What part of my comment was unclear?

Why would a company buy another company when the benefit is minimal? It seems Sony is buyin up Gaikai for the infrastructure, not the technology since it is widely available.

The only reason you buy something like that which is available to anyone, and pay premium is because you are unable to build and scale it up yourself and you want it FAST!

This is a business strategy, not ...

I think Sony is in panic mode and decided to buy up Gaikai. There is no reason why MS would want OnLive (or Gaikai) for that matter. The technology isn't super secret or particularly difficult to do. In fact, nVidia is the provider for Gaikai with GeForce Grid which is technology anyone can buy.

So if the technology isn't what Sony want, the customer base is unlikely as there likely isn't many and branding is kind of useless since Playstation is a far stronger bra...

I don't see this as a good thing at all. Whatever implementation they are doing, is just another iteration of Gaikai.

Did any of you use Gaikai before the merger? Why would you think you would afterwards?

Fact of the matter is, with excellent internet connection the experience is still subpar. Heck, I avoid remote desktop or remote control software because it is sloooow. That uses far less bandwidth than say an intensive game that requires lag free input...

@darkpower:

I agree with you man. The fact that Vivendi wants to sell shares in Activision-Blizzard has more to do with their own liabilities (i.e. Vivendi's loans) than ATVI. In fact, if you look at ATVI balance sheet for Dec 2011, it's clear they have zero long term debt, very little short term (which means ongoing business expenses, accounts payable) and crapload of cash i.e. their cash exceeds their liabilities.

Vivendi are selling ATVI not to get...

@KrimsonKody

lol!

Spoiler alert for Gears of War 3!!! You been warned.

Dom does die in GoW3. lol.

What pisses me off more, is many other countries worship caucasians. Case in point, Japanese anime almost always has a white protagonist (or at least look like one).

@BattleAxe:

To be fair, I don't play MW series that much at all. I played Gears of War 3 far more often (in fact, almost all the time) and of course Halo: Reach every now and then.

Playing mostly my backlog of games! Been wanting to get Ghost Recon though.

What I wonder is, why haven't people gotten bored of WoW yet? That game is like what, ten years old?

Anyhow, none of my bizzness if that is what people like! XD

I think technology increase will outgrow the need for investment into the cloud. We are soon going to hit a ceiling due to 1080p HD being the standard for at least a decade if not two.

That means, after next generation consoles will be cheap so why bother with laggy streaming service. I would rather build the ability to intelligently stream game assets (like textures and sound) so that you can immediately play, but run it off your local cheap hardware.

I'm questioning if it is worth it. Think about it, anyone can pretty much build and employ this technology so why spend $380 million?

It's not like Sony needed Gaikai's customers. The Playstation brand is far stronger than Gaikai.

@jujubee88:

If I had $380 million, I'd buy an Hawaii Island like Larry Ellison of Oracle, and then spend the rest of my time towards investment charity!

I loved the campaign in MW and MW2. Especially on that one winter mission, where you are sneaking around.

Looking forward to MW4! Yes, I DO and I will enjoy it despite what the haters will say!!!

I want to play as an Asian dude, but almost no game even offer the opportunity. Even in one of my favorite games, Gears of War, the only Asian character, Lt. Kim, was killed in the first game!

At least Gears got a Mexican like dude, called DOM!

I think Kinect would have worked well too. Let's hope PS Vita and Xbox 360 gets a port too!

Heck, SmartGlass interaction would be pretty cool.

I liked ME1 story the best, but the shooting mechanics of ME2 was superior. However, the classes got mixed so much between classes and toned down it hardly resembles the first game.

I would add the first Mass Effect. Simply because, it was more RPG like with more well defined classes and a more complex point system.

It also had the best story!

There are some good trends there, but I would like to see more of centralized hub integration with the next Xbox where we can rely less on the bulky PC and more on tablet/smart phones and console integration to fill that gap.

I would love to be able to start my Xbox and a game or initiate a movie so it can pre-buffer in advance from my phone while on the commute home.

I want to see more social integration into my gaming and make the online community a much ...

Maybe not to you, but for tens of millions (and the increasing numbers every year) of others that pay for Xbox Live Gold do trust the brand.

Heck, Xbox 360 is the only console that publicly acknowledge a problem before a lawsuit and offered 3-year warranty and *refund* for people that paid for repairs previously.

That is more than I can say for a company like Sony whom got hit with a lawsuit for PS2 faulty DVD drive. All consumers got out of that was maximum...

Xbox also exist on Windows 8 and RT as well as Windows Phone 8. So this will expand to more than just the console.

It's really exciting news, as I just saw an awesome game called Skulls of Shogun that can be played on any device including tablet, PC, Windows Phone, and Xbox 360 console. You can pick up and play the game on one device and continue on another.

Heck, with the tablet you could even connect an Xbox 360 controller. So now Xbox has turned into a...
