I don't know, Nintendo choose ATi and so did MS. Both hugely successful partnerships even though it wasn't hugely profitable for ATi.

On the other hand you got nVidia that had relatively poor performance per cost for Sony while they screwed up with MS.

It seems to me that ATi is by far the better choice and since you don't rely on ATi shitty drivers, that as even better!

I don't know, I find it interesting. I kind of like it.

The trick shown in the video is to roll back.

@edonus:

I think people are so negative to motion control and especially to Kinect, that negative reviews will be abound regardless of the quality of the game.

However, I personally look forward to try Fable: The Journey and hope it's going to be a good game. I'm really glad MS isn't abandoning Kinect!

MS is really pushing new possibilities with Kinect.

Nintendo I do think has something up their sleeve, but I'm not sure that is enough to fend of MS. What Wii U delivers isn't a must-have technology yet and the upgrade reasons are for ports of old games?

Might be a tough sell. Sony with a new slim (maybe a small price reduction) will boost sale temporary like it always has. Old hardware packaged in a new skin does NOT suddenly make it more appealing to the casual crowd. The core crowd is tapped and saturated! A huge pr...

I could care less if a game is labeled core, hardcore or casual if I play them repeatedly.

Minecraft is likely to be labeled a casual game, yet some Minecrafters play it far more than the usual shooter hardcore gamers!

I don't think of myself as a hardcore gamer, but simply an entertainment consumer i.e. I consume a lot of forms of entertainment, some more than others at different times!

I still play Gears of War 3, and will soon be play...

@cgoodno:

Why not?

MS will take a loss up front like they always has, and with careful cost control it ain't impossible.

I think with higher initial volume, cost would also go down assuming you aren't outstripping the supply.

However, I think a $400 starting price is more realistic.

Yeah, I mean everyone has to trade in their DVD player for blu-ray, or their PS2 for their PS3, and then their PS3 for PS4. /s

I was talking about $149, not even $99. You don't just cut production cost in one fell swoop by 40%, let alone 60% with electronics.

It takes years, not months to achieve that. All discounts in electronics including semiconductors are incremental, unless the part is overproduced. That is few and far between on a gazillion part machine.

Not gonna happen! If it was feasible, the reduction in price would have happened much earlier at a higher leap/gap as the...

I wouldn't doubt a $150 PS3 would sell. It would and would likely take market share and MS might take respond!

If it happened it so far below the current prices and even beats MS for an astounding value. At that price point, nobody can really compare to a PS3.

But it's like saying, I don't see how a $1 Xbox 360 wouldn't sell? It simple! Manufacturing cost would be too expensive to offer it and Sony isn't exactly in a healthy financial busi...

I think a lot of people will be dissappointed.

A $149 PS3 is far too unlikely for two reasons:

a) Sony barely broke even last time a price cut occurred on PS3 last year. They actually had a small loss if you account for retail associated costs i.e. retailer profit, packaging, shipping, returns and etc. A 40% (a massive $100) cut in production cost just by removing the hard drive in barely a year is so unlikely it seems silly!

So their only op...

"It's feckin simple economics dodo...Sony need to sell more hardware, and making a cheaper PS3 makes sense now as the console is nearing the end of its cycle..."

Well, it's pretty simple can Sony afford to take a massive loss to gain marketshare this late in the cycle?

Probably not when Sony themselves are in deep financial dodo! So a $149 PS3 is unlikely, because at the last price drop they barely broke even excluding certain cost associate...

To all the people above not knowing what "average selling price" means, when people say it:

It isn't the average price of the console offerings. It is the average price a consumer pays for the console.

I think a $150 price tag on PS3 is something that will definitely have a longer term impact as the price discrepancy is huge.

However, I question if Sony is able to deliver a console at that price considering their dire financial situation.

Even if Sony did deliver, MS is more concerned about profit at this stage than market share and invest that profit into their next console. A $50 price drop from MS might just nullify a lot of the benefit to Sony, and in t...

@EVILDEAD360

Some companies like to pad their list of exclusives every year, but when it actually comes to release, historically it is on par.

I don't think many Xbox 360 owners complain, it is the non-owners and the biased that do!

It's not like it is 2006-2007 here where there isn't an abundance of games. What core gamers are vying for is a real next generation console, not 7-year old technology.

All Kinect specific games!

In my opinion, it is kind of too late to be downgrading your console. However, it all depends on the price point.

As it stands, the average selling price of an Xbox 360 is already higher than a PS3 which indicates the price isn't the issue anymore.

Anyways, I'm never one to dismiss another option which is good for gamers. It just seems odd to keep downgrading your console over it's lifecycle, while the competition upgrades it.

"Im going to get a million disagrees but how is move different to the Wii-motes?"

There is little difference in practice, but PS Move does have a camera. Unfortunately having hardware features not really used is kind of useless and that is where the Wii is a far better purchase. It's hardware might not be as good, but the games certainly utilize them well and in a fun way.

It was more the developer partnering with MS, MS set the terms, developer agreed and a while later all of a sudden disagree! Then bad mouthing the partner!

I'm frankly surprised about this decision by Polytron (the maker of Fez). It's not like they didn't know about the cost of patches up front and they clearly profited a great deal from the game, but they are unwilling to pay up to fix a bug that is rather nasty for their own customers!

I can't help, but feel like Polytron is the one to blame and not MS!!!

I didn't buy Fez and I won't be buying it either on any platform!
