MS tries not to waste money keeping unproductive studios around This internally happens at big studios too, they essentially have seasonal contractors.

I think a comment made by a reader in the article stated it best:

"I'm speechless. They're releasing a service that's a copy of a service that has failed long ago, for the exact same market, without any details on how this one's going to be different. Is this a joke?"

Good luck Sony, but you got a lot of work ahead of you!

A new PS Move title built from the ground up for it would be interesting to me!

So far the support has been abysmal for PS Move.

@darkride66:

Care to provide some proof for your numbers?

It still doesn't change that, that is then and this is now. MS hasn't had a price cut in 3-years, they outsold Sony last holiday with 1.7 million units worldwide while Sony just had a price cut in August-September.

The thing here is that it is a pie in the sky type of scenario. A $99 unlocked iPhone 4S would destroy any competition too. Problem is, it ain't financial viable!

If PS3 can reduce their price to $150, so can MS. As it stands, the Xbox 360 already sell at a higher average selling price to consumers than the PS3, while being cheaper to manufacture.

The DRE problem on the PS2 was pretty nasty and Sony refused to fix it. Owners had to fix it on their own dime, and to add insult to injury years later Sony settled the lawsuit giving you max $25 *if* I still had the receipt. Who has the receipt years later?

Sony even had the audacity to NOT refund you the repair cost that Sony themselves took!

Shit happens, but when it does I want to know how the company at fault is taking care of me.

@cgoodno:

Yes, R&D is and must be accounted for in the report, but it is typical of gaming industry to post big losses for the first few years with relatively big profit later. All major console makers are ramping up R&D prior to a product release, not after so it really has minimal affect on the financials or the view.

Heck, almost nobody can tell you with good certainty how much R&D cost went into the Xbox 360 or Ps3.

For any ...

People ARE afraid of change! It happens all the time all around us every day.

Thirty years ago, the idea of Kinect was as foreign as the concept of a computer on every desk! Look what we have now!

Yes, for the privilige of accessing it in a premium way via a MS custom designed app for Epix.

Don't like it, don't buy it! o_0

The metro screen has actually made me far more efficient than the start button search functionality in older versions of Windows and it is fast! Very fast at booting, starting apps and is very resource efficient.

Want a boost without buying hardware, get Windows 8!

People say various versions of Windows was crap, and I used them all since the Win 3.1 days including Windows 3.11 for Workgroup until todays Windows 8.

All of them was pretty damn good experience for me compared to the competition at the time.

People often say stuff is crap, but they almost never say why. I would like to hear why people think certain OS are crap?

Personally, Windows 8 for me personally and I have been using it as my daily an...

I personally could care less than blu-ray. I own a PS3, and only own 2 blu-rays movies for my PS3. One was an impulse buy to boot.

PS Home has been completely pointless and so is the crappy browser that crashes all the time. Heck, the Wii's browser is far better. I hate the PS3 interface though as it is damn clunky.

What I do like though is the design of the actual PS3 hardware. It's pretty silent, albeit you can hear the disc spin and there is no ex...

"The 360 is the cheapest cause it offers alot less when it comes to hardware."

but it offers a lot more in services and the majority of multi-platform games work better on the Xbox 360.

Inflexible specialized architecture doesn't suit game development. A good example of that is Rage, where severe texture pop-in was occurring on the PS3 version compared to the Xbox 360 version. Another example is the lack of cross g...

I think once you give it to real users, not critics or the MS haters it will be a hit. This is the fastest, lightest and most logical Windows released since Windows 95!

A sure fire way to kill your business is to blame the customers for your own bad design!

It's not obvious that plugging something in wrong way will cause a fire! Even worse allow it to be plugged in!!! o_0

Most people I encounter that dislike Windows 8 is due to fear of changes, and has little to do with the actual complaint.

Windows 8 has been fantastic for me.

Active people that do that on a regular basis?

I currently work 14-16 hour a day, and I still find time and energy to go jogging 30 minutes several times a week.

However, nothing prevents you from playing your laid back couch potato games. I do it too and don't expect that to go away!

In Sony's defense, there was a case where Sony refused warranty on a console and the whole internet (me included) was up in arms about it. Then the truth came out and the PS3 looked like it had been in a dust storm!

I had to eat my own words and learned a lesson! Don't be so sure until you have seen all the facts, and ruled out everything. I thought it was a slam dunk case.

"Seems like Sony should have made the extra effort to make sure the Vita was idiot proof..."

When people are busy, they don't always look. I do the same thing with USB ports. I just try both gently.

It seems idiotic these days to design something that can only operate in one way, yet allow both ways/sides of insertion (even with a little force).

It's not rocket science here engineers!

@cgoodno:

I partly agree with you, but think even a 50% loss is doable if it is only the first year and drastically drops off. Cost of R&D is typically considered fixed cost and is not amortized over each unit sold. It is the cost of manufacturing, packaging and distribution that is accounted for.

I really never hear about amortizing R&D on each unit after the R&D budget is spent, especially when unit sales is a moving target. The loss is from bi...
