If you are a videophile you would probably care about 4K movies however it must be said that 8K displays are available now and while expensive they will come down in price fairly quickly (approx two to three years) so if you are a videophile you would probably want to upgrade again. I know this gets expensive but videophiles are usually willing to pay for the best physical media.

You are quite right most people are quite happy with streaming since the monthly fee for, say N...

@bolimekurac

If you are a videophile and have a 4K TV then the XB1s is worth buying for the 4K Bluray player assuming you are going to buy 4K Bluray movies which cost anywhere between 20% to 30% more then a standard HD Bluray movie (of course DVD is cheaper again). Most people who are interested in movies are quite happy with streaming although the removal of net neutrality in the US may change that.

For the gamer who wants to play XB1 games then you want...

If the game has not been partnered or distributed by Microsoft then Microsoft does not make any money from the sales of PC games.

Sure Microsoft could push for a royalty for any application that runs on their operating system however that would be risky since they would need worldwide legislation to do that and it is pretty easy for games developers to start making games that run on alternative free of royalty operating systems.

Setting a price on anything is a balancing act. Too much and you have fewer consumer purchases, too little then profits (if any) will be significantly reduced.

Like it or not loot-boxes were a form of gambling since you had to use in-game money which can be purchased with real money to place a "bet". This, in turn, resulted in a random output (ie. chance) that may or may not be beneficial to the player.

While loot-boxes for many games resulted i...

Gambling constitutes an element of chance where you as the player will be the one actually placing a "bet" either with real money or pseudo-money (equivalent to tokens in a casino) which in turn can be equated to real money.

Microtransactions are not gambling since you can see or know exactly what you are purchasing. Of course, we all know that microtransactions can be abused.

Note: Using RPG's as an example. Say you defeat a particular boss...

Not all microtransactions are bad, especially ones that are cosmetic only which are designed to appeal to some gamers egos. The problem you have is where do you actually draw the line since we know that microtransactions can lead to "pay to win" and loot boxes?

When choosing a disk drive you should be looking at performance and capacity. Choosing USB 3.0 which has a maximum performance of 625MB/sec is a must even if you are buying a hard disk drive (HDD).

The best performing storage is a solid state drive (SSD) with reads of over 500MB/sec and writes over 480MB/sec. HDD's, on the other hand, can have reads of less than 100MB/sec depending on the platter speed. The main problem with SSD's is the fact that they are much more...

There is a huge amount of good (subjective) games for the PS4 many of which are under $20 USD. Of course, there are the latest AAA games which will cost.

The main difficulty with any type of gaming is finding the time to play and this can be very difficult if you have more than one person who is interested in gaming since all families or household members will have to compromise if they are sharing a TV (HD or UHD).

There is nothing more annoying if one...

While I do agree on principle to what you said the main component of gambling is the "chance" of getting a particular item or items but not necessarily the ones you would like only after making a purchase.

You are quite right in pointing out the cosmetic nature of earlier loot boxes which IMHO are still a form of gambling but they are not "pay to win" (err. "Accelerated Experience" 😎) and on this many game...

I think you are getting confused between storage (ie. HDD's and SSD's) and system memory (ie. DDR3, DDR4 and GDDR5). My desktop has 16GB of DDR4 memory and I rarely use more than 4GB although that does depend on the applications I am running.

I very much doubt that the next generation consols will have more than 16GB of system memory although an option to increase (eg different and more expensive SKU) may be available. As for storage, it depends on the cost per giga...

I actually have a 120GB SSD in my FAT PS3. It was stupidly easy to do this. I could have put a large HDD in but I never did digital downloads for my PS3 so it was pointless.

Aw! what's wrong with the Megadrive (ie. Genius), Dreamcast and Gamecube?

I am still waiting for a release for my toaster (fire spell) and/or fridge (cold spell) although I would have to be careful of that lightning spell since the surge could be detrimental to all my electronics. 😎

Consoles are different to PC's since consoles are manufactured and controlled by the developing company. PC's, on the other hand, are manufactured by many different companies and if you are tech savvy enough can easily assemble your own custom one.

Even though the majority of operating systems on desktop (includes laptops and tablets) are Microsoft Windows (about 90%) there can be multiple stores selling games for Microsoft Windows (eg Steam, GoG, Bricks and mortar...

I fully agree with you however not all PC's run a Microsoft operating system there are some running Mac OS (3.34%) and a Linux distribution (2.98%). While those percentages are small they still account for tens of millions of users. https://www.netmarketshare....

Even for those PC's running an MS Windows OS the most dominant is Windows 7 with 46.6...

If you have a surge protector board for your other electronics and one or more spare outlets on it just plug your XB1x into it since thereby keeping all your plugs in one place. If you wish to plug it into a spare general purpose outlet (GPO) on your wall then this is fine as well. Basically "It does not matter".

Normally a surge protector board has particular specifications although good luck finding them, but what are the specifications for the surge protector f...

I think most people who live in areas where AC power is problematic will or at least should have a surge protector on their mains and/or have a surge protector board from their wall outlet to their electronics. It's all well and good having a console with an inbuilt surge protector but what about all your other (read expensive) electronics such as your TV, PC, Sound system etc?

Oh, it also pays to have house and contents insurance or contents only if you are renting. A ...

"Yes" for most mid to high-end desktops and laptops (read expensive) but for the majority of laptops sold then and even today "no".

Please don't go in the GHz clock frequencies comparisons which was debunked back in the late 1990's and early 2000's. Yes you can compare clock frequencies if you have equivalent processors but not when you bring threads and cores into the equation.
