I do agree but there are just so many games now that it is not overly difficult to ignore those games that blatantly try to force you to spend additional money. Retro gaming is looking more and more attractive.

Unfortunately, mobile gaming is just the tip of the iceberg and some of those so-called games give the illusion of you playing the game. You are right it is only going to get worse.

I agree with what you said but when you look at "loot boxes" which are a form of gambling no matter what other so-called authorities say, you will have what is known in the "trade" as "whales" (problem gamblers or "high-rollers"), "dolphins" (minor gamblers), "minows" (hardly spend anything) and "freeloaders" (immune to gambling). 3124d ago 1 agree0 disagreeView comment

I don't give any publisher a free pass if they introduce coercive practices for microtransactions and by that, I mean "pay to win" especially in randomized loot boxes.

While you can purchase these items with in-game currency you have to do unnecessarily grinding to earn that money so you are sort off coerced to purchase those loot boxes with real money. I wonder how long before you will be forced to purchase those loot boxes with real money to even have a chan...

Actually, it usually is the publisher that forces these practices on the developer.

Personally, I don't mind microtransactions if they are just cosmetic and don't impact the gameplay but I do object by not buying the game to "pay to win" coercion with unnecessary grinding.

It's not the gaming machine that is at fault it is the game publishers such as EA that push for the more questionable practices in games. However, the ones that are really at fault are the "junkies" (sorry that is what they are) that buy into those questionable microtransactions that have "Pay to win" incentives.

Note: I am not against microtransactions if they are cosmetic and don't affect gameplay.

I do agree with you but not all microtransactions are bad since most are purely cosmetic and don't affect gameplay, although there is a saying "Give them an inch and they will take a mile" and how true that is when loot boxes have now made their scummy appearance.

Even loot boxes are grudgingly acceptable if they just contain cosmetic items (ie. "fluff") but now the push is for items which buff the user's stats such as weapons and attributes (eg....

No, I can assure you I am quite sober although I am getting tired.

I was replying to SlashHabit's comment stating that lebanesiamism in the game is incredibly inconvenient (for who?) and I pointed out that it can be explained in a way that makes sense although not in the same sense as some people would like.

BTW. The fungal disease mentioned in the game does exist for some insects and grubs. It would be quite horrific if ...

You could play Atelier Sophie - The Alchemist of the Mysterious Book. There is a short fat guy in that although you would be hard-pressed to complete the game in under 40 hours. 😎

Read my earlier post on Parthenogenesis which is a natural form of asexual reproduction in which growth and development of embryos occur without fertilization which does exist in some species living today although to date, not in humans and other primates. https://en.wikipedia.org/wi...

The game has fantasy elements so you could assume Ellie is parthenogenic who can give birth to children without male assistance. Well, she does have an immunity to the fungus disease so why not?

Note: Parthenogenesis is a natural form of asexual reproduction in which growth and development of embryos occur without fertilization and certain creatures such as some lizards (whiptail species and the Komodo dragon), some insects, some sharks, etc. 3124d ago 1 agree9 disagreeView comment

CoD: WWII clocks in at 45GB on the PS4 http://www.playstationlifes... and about 45GB for the XB1 http://articles.gamerheadqu... It seems the PC users are getting the short (excuse the pun) end of the stick again.

Well, the XB1x is coming out one year after the PS4pro so I would have been surprised if it was not more powerful. Give it a year or two and the PS5 will be more powerful than the XB1x, that is how a technology works.

Well considering the Switch is sort of on track to sell approximately 10 million worldwide by January 2018 while the PS4 is on track to have at least 70+ million by the same time it would make perfect business sense to bring out the game on both consoles.

You could even go as far as calculating on 20% sales (doubt it but hey why not) for the Switch which would result in 2 million sales (assuming 10 million Switches sold) and say 5% (assuming worst case scenario) for the PS4...

I have not seen the PS5 specifications but I can make some assumptions.

If Sony plays their cards right they should start to plan development of the PS5 from 2019 taking into account new and proposed bus (see PCI Express V5), processor and graphics standards for say 2020 to 2022. In addition, it would be well worthwhile to get 1TB SSD's for their internal storage and let users buy cheaper but larger capacity HDD's for games they don't play that often.

No, they are not rip-offs since they do offer better performance for games and they are entirely optional.

As you are aware or at least should be 4K or UHDTV's are now becoming mainstream so these console iterations are there to plug the gap until the PS5 or XB?? (whatever) comes out. The problem for 4K is that there are plenty of 1080p TV's out there that will do the job perfectly due to the majority of content being standard definition to 1080p.

Personally, I would not know since I don't have statistics one-way or the other. If Microsoft gave use pre-sales orders then I could make a reasonable a forecast but they won't so obviously I can't.

I do think that the XB1x will sell in the region of one million over the Christmas break but after the New Year, there is a very good chance that sales will be in the region of 10% to 25% of XB1 sales.

Note: Currently the PS4pro is selling at 20% o...

I am definitely aware of the high difficulty curve by some games (Battletoads comes to mind) however many of those games had ridiculous difficulty spikes. You also have to remember that games which were based on an arcade mentality had "lives" where if you lost them all you started from the beginning.

I have always liked RPG's as well as the odd Action/Adventure game and from the NES days through to current times, RPG's have normally been at the very least...

The concept of loot crates is a form of gambling although you really do have to look at this in more detail.

If you play say an RPG or an MMO loot drops from enemies and chests are normally random and the more random in relation to the protagonist or party the more replayable the game. Even in some games, you can find mini-games that are to all intensive purposes gambling (e. Zelda1 (yes really) and Dragon Quest 8 to name two) but with in-game money, however, you could skip...

@northpaws

I fully agree that Sony was overly generous with letting Team Ico continue with their development of The Last Guardian and that Microsoft (in fact just about any other publisher) would have pulled the plug much earlier, however, any company that wants to stay in business must get a return or break even on their costs.

If a company has a loss on their product unless they have garnered a lot of goodwill they stand a very good chance of going out ...
