@uth11
Prices of 4k TV's are dropping rapidly. As for displaying 1080p content all 4k TV's have up-scalers which from what I can gather do a very good job.
In many respects there would be very little between a HDTV that support SD, 720p as well as 1080p and a 4k TV (assuming an aspect ratio of 16:9) that now supports 2160p as well. We can even go one step further to an 8k TV that will support up to 4320p.

4k TV's are not that much more expensive than an equivalent 1080p HDTV (approx 10% to 30%), however people are not normally gong to buy a 4k TV unless it is the first HDTV they are buying or they have plenty of money to spend.
Considering HDTV's like their glass standard definition glass TV's have a life up to 10 to 20 years and unless the buyer can see an advantage in upgrading they wont.
Going from a 26" SD glass TV to a 40" or more H...
Yes you can tell the difference between 1080p and 4k or 2160p, assuming an aspect ratio of 16:9, however you also have to look at screen size and of course content.
8k is still in the experimental stage however it will come and if 4k prices are anything to go by (approx 10% to 30% dearer) then 8k will probably be a few percent dearer again.
You are fairly correct in saying "unless you have a home IMAX or something", although I think where 8k will sh...
DX12 is software it is not hardware. If DirectX can be improved or optimised then so can the OpenGL software that is used by the PS4.
What cannot be improved is the hardware of both machines without making what would basically be a new machine.
There is only one way that the hardware of the PS4 and/or XB1 can be improved (eg. Faster CPU, More RAM, larger and/or faster hard disk, 4k gaming) and that is to bring out a new machine that is backwards compatible a...
I prefer Action/Adventure and/or RPG's and the games I buy can last from twenty hours at the minimum to well over hundreds of hours. I have never been that keen on PC gaming preferring console gaming instead. Basically I don't have the time to play those type of games across multiple consoles.
I am normally very selective in my choice of games and for me the XB1 does not have the games that are compelling enough for me to consider getting one. That said I don't ha...
For me a Bloodbone, Dark Souls 2 and possibly an RPG like the Witcher 3 and/or Dragon Age - Inquisition would definitely tempt me since I don't have a PS4 yet.
From personal experience the Souls games and now Bloodborne are not for the casual gamer. These games fall into the Action/Adventure RPG category with a "Hack and Slash" sub category and would only be popular with gamers who like those categories coupled with the fact that these games are unashamedly diff...
This is why I don't like to compare Demon's Souls to Dark Souls. Basically the first consists of sandbox areas while the others is open world although for Dark Souls you could consider the Asylum and even Anor Londo a sandbox area since you could only get to them by flying.
IMHO both Demon's Souls and Dark Souls are both great games and both have their strengths and very little weakness. I would say it all boils down to if you like sandbox to open world games. Per...
I don't think I have ever seen a QTE in any game from "From Software". Basically this type of thing is rather pointless in Action/Adventure RPG's.
I am hoping for more random enemy encounters which really do keep you on your toes. The odd randomly generated areas would add to the replay value enormously as well.
While I don't have a PS4 yet I am hoping in April through to June to get a bundle that contains an Action/Adventure RPG's p...
From Software has been one of my favourite gaming companies starting with Kings Field (PS1 and PS2) to the Souls series on the PS3. My only nit pick on all of their games is that the enemy is always at the same place. Basically there is little if any randomness in the enemy encounters.
Of course all of these games are huge and it is almost impossible to remember where and what the enemy is in all areas throughout the game although I do feel that more random enemies would add ...
Now I definitely won't say no to that. The PS3 version of Skyrim starts to have major issues with slowdowns and the odd game freeze especially when auto-saving after your save file exceed 6MB. The way around this is to turn off all auto-saving although you may wish to auto save every 30 minutes to an hour and manually save on occasion.
Even Oblivion remastered would be good although for those who have not played it or would like to be less frustrated, select all minor att...
I hope the Fallout people are good against atronachs and/or undead as well as higher level Destruction spells all wielded by a master level sneak archer :-)
From what I can gather ESO is on-line only and to me that is a turn-off since I don't like games were you have to be on-line (even if free) to play.
I don't have any issue with games that have an on-line component such as the Souls series and even Dragon's Dogma. Even White Knight Chronicles had an on-line capability to form a party.
Games like Oblivion and even Skyrim did not have an on-line component although they did have DLC but even without D...
I saw Angry Joe review re Dying Light and IMO it was a reasonable fair review with good and bad points highlighted.
Another site I like to watch for a review is http://www.escapistmagazine... with Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaw. Basically he really runs down pretty much all games however if you can read between the lines you can pick out if the game is any good if you actually like th...
@LamerTamer
Most HDTV's sold today have an aspect ration of 16:9 which is a compromise between all the competing different aspect ratios.
If a movie or game is in Cinemascope the aspect ratio is normally 2.4:1. An other popular aspect ration is 1.85:1, however there are other ones as well.
Basically the choice of aspect ration is up to the game or movie producer and if displaying on a screen that has a different aspect ration you will see...

>> "The comparisons to Ryse has to stop. They are not even the same genre plus RAD are quality developers unlike Crytek"
Sorry but both Ryse and "The Order" fall into the Action/Adventure Genre(s) with the sub categories of "Hack and Slash" for Ryse and "Third Person Shooter" for The Order. So yes you can compare them.
It would be unfair to compare a First Person Shooter (FPS) game with a...
At least the PS2 and all PS3's can play PS1 games and it is also possible to play PS1 and PS2 disks via emulator on a PC. Having said that it should not be that difficult provide PS1 and PS2 emulation on the PS4 however that is up to Sony to do this.
Getting full PS3 emulation may be allot more difficult on the PS4 since the architectures are radically different.
@TorpeAlex
You clearly don't understand what aspect ratio is.
Most HDTV's have an aspect ratio of 16:9 which basically means that that screen has 16 units across and 9 unit in height so for 1080p you would have 1920 pixels across and 1080 pixels in height.
If a picture has the same aspect ratio of the display screen then that picture will fill the screen. If the aspect ratio differs then you will have black bars either top and bottom ...
Still have my original PS3 however since I live in Australia the PS2 emulation is done by software and hardware and sometimes you get so far in the PS2 game and you have a problem. Still most PS2 games do work.
Playing a PS2 game even on my 55" HDTV is still graphically pleasing compared to playing a PS1 game (all PS3's will play PS1 game disks) which can appear to be very grainy.
While I do agree that some PS2 games are IMO classics and are better t...
I do agree that you are fully entitled to your opinion that the $50 price difference is important to you, for most console gamers they purchase a console that has the games they like now or in the foreseeable future. The more discerning console gamer will also look are overall performance or just purchase both and possibly a WiiU as well.
As for preferring console gaming over PC gaming we are in full agreement here. I don't have any issues with PC (read Microsoft Window...
@Concertoine
Playing through Dark Souls at level 1, now that is impressive although "no magic" is basically impossible since the only level 1 build is the "pyromancer" and he/she has flame spells. Of course you don't have to use them if you don't want to.
The best pyromancer flame spell IMO is the hand flame since you can level this up and since it takes approximately 0.5 of a second to activate it can even take out a level 100 cha...
