No the Order was 1080p it is just that it had an aspect ratio of 2.4:1 (Cinemascope) which translates to 1920 x 800 pixels when displayed on a HDTV with an aspect ratio of 16:9 which is pretty much the industry standard and a compromise. The console still has to output 1080p.

Of course if you have a 2.4:1 aspect ratio HDTV (you can get them) then the game would have filled the screen.

What I have just touched upon is a problem which won't go away since d...

You also have to remember that when the PS2 came out HDTV's were just starting to become popular however they were quite expensive at the time.

So if you displayed a cross platform game on the Xbox and on the PS2 to a Standard Definition TV the difference was not all that apparent unless you had them side to side and while the Xbox graphics were better they were not significantly better.

When the PS3 came out backwards compatibility allowed for PS2 games...

>> Simple.. A PC is an open environment.

Err! ... Yes and no, it depends what you mean by "open". If you mean you can choose what components to make up your PC then you are sort of right and wrong at the same time. All PC's must have components that will work in concert with each other and you are fairly limited in that choice.

As to the Operating System, most people run under a Microsoft OS and that is not an open environment although it ...

PC users take less s%;t and are "stonger" than their console counterparts? Hmm! well that really depends on the PC user.

Unfortunately many PC users treat their machine as an appliance or worse yet some sort of "magic" box, so people like that would be the perfect target for all manner of selling and malware.

Of course there are computing aware people and these are the ones that won't take s%;t but these people are very much in the min...

PC devs trying to push as much as they can? Well that is fine but if you are in the business of making money you support the market that will give you the most money in sales and that market is what would be classed as the medium end PC market. The high end support is just frosting on the cake.

Just supporting the high end PC market only is a great way of loosing potential sales.

Well you can play console games from the 1970's through to today by emulation and I think most console gamers are aware of this. If that is not future proofing then I don't know what is.

As for backwards compatibility that is what held me back from buying a PS4 since I have PS3 games I am still playing. Eventually I will get a PS4 when I can see enough games that will give me the impetus for buying one (I am very picky).

You should know that the Witcher 2 came out for the Xbox360 as well although the original came out for the PC.

Basically the developers are PC devs, however the consoles they are aiming at now also have a PC architecture and they don't have to worry about lots of different modules since everything is known hence they can program to the metal.

Basically the developers are predominately aiming at medium (includes PS4 and XB1) to high end PC's and while...

I do have a good speck gaming PC although it is getting a bit old now, but I still prefer console gaming over PC gaming.

As for upgrading well for me it is cheaper to build my own since and I can get the performance I want, however this still will still not push me towards PC gaming.

@Two-Face

I think most people in this forum have reasonable PC's and still prefer console gaming to PC gaming. As for a high end PC's, well compared to t...

Not necessarily there are only 24 hours in the day and depending on what type of games you like you could be really hard pressed to play games across two or more machines. Still if you only like quick? games then maybe two or more consoles are for you.

For people like myself who likes games that can take over 50 hours to complete then having two or more gaming machines (I am including PC's here are well) finding the time to play to completion becomes impossible.

@MysticStrummer

Interesting URL.

From the site it appears that the XB1 has the lead is "Applications and Services". The PS4 has 20 exclusive services including PS+. The XB1 does have 49 exclusive services including Xbox Gold. An additional 18 services are shared between the PS4 and the XB1.

Now before the XB1 fanboys start giving out "high-fives" I should clarify what the "Applications and Services" are:

Maybe in the USA and then you pay for it since the service is not free. Most countries do have limits which are usually calculated as the sum of your downloads and uploads. It is possible to get unlimited but then you find that your bandwidth is limited.

In Australia I have a 120GB monthly limit (broadband and up-to 8 MB/sec) although there is no charge for steaming movies from my carrier service. For Australia this is not that bad and we are suppo...

I fully agree, if you are enthralled in an RPG then it is very easy to play for many hours and usually without any health issues.

@iceman06

Here is what I dredged up: Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) occurs when a blood clot forms in a vein deep inside a muscle in your body. It usually happens in legs, but can also develop in your arms, chest, or other areas of your body. And though DVT is not common, it can be dangerous. The blood clot can block your circulation o...

If you like the Souls series I think you would like Bloodborne, however many people don't like that style of game for a many reasons, some valid (eg: too hard or not my type of game) some definitely not (eg: I hate this game no matter how good it is).

Personally this is one game that looks like pushing me into purchasing a PS4 so I am hoping for a Action RPG bundle. Of course I would like to finish Skyrim first and after over 100 hours I have hardly touched the main quest...

I am pretty much certain that any game that supports a higher resolution than 1080p on a PC can look graphically more pleasing than what can be produced on the current consoles, providing of course the PC architecture and the monitor supports that resolution.

Please note I said "can" because there are many factors which need to be taken into account when looking at a game, with the most important aspect being the fun factor.

I don't care if a g...

There is nothing wrong being a nerd or a hacker for that matter it is only when hacking skills are used for "cracking" (please note the difference).

BTW. A cracker does not have to be a hacker and most hackers are not Crackers although some crackers have hacking skills. Hacking is not a crime however cracking is.

That said if laws were brought in that criminalised hacking they would be locking up tens of millions of people and the computing and scie...

It really depends on the game you are playing. Games like RPG's (action or otherwise) can look so much better if they are in high resolution providing they have a steady frame rate of IMHO at least 30 fps. Games such as FPS's, Fighting or Racing benefit more from a higher frame rate. Of course this may not always hold true so you have to take each game on it's merit.

No matter what the game when you have variable frame rates you can have slowdown which IMO detract...

Basically the PS2 was a day one purchase and so was the PS3 however the main reason for this was their backwards compatibility which allowed me to play my previous generation games until games that I liked came out for the next generation console.

Since the PS4 is not backwards comparable and I had quite a few PS3 games that even today I am still playing there was no real incentive to get a PS4 just yet.

Now games that I like are starting to come out for the ...

If the Souls series is anything to go by I doubt that Bloodborne has a pause feature so even if Sony did implement a Suspend and Resume feature some game developers may want to disable it.

For the Souls series you could save anywhere in the game (even falling off a cliff) so I would not be surprised if Bloodborne allowed you to do this as well. Of course when you die you would end up in the Nexus (Demon's Souls) or a bonfire (Dark Souls) and I think Bloodborne will do som...

I have always wondered why do people want Suspend and Resume when you can do an old fashion pause/resume and a save/restore.

I can understand if the game you play won't let you save anywhere but at specific save points but in some way that defeats the challenge of that particular game. As an example if I am playing say any Souls game you literately can save anywhere, even if falling off a cliff but once you die its back to the Nexus or bonfire for you.
