Consoles are actually designed for HDTV's which at the low end can only support up to 1080p @ 60 fps. Sure 4k TV's are available but HDTV's dominate.

Even if you have the latest Skylake chip-set and a high performance graphics card you still need a display device that will work well with it. Having a 5ms 24" 1080p monitor while acceptable is not exactly cutting edge for gaming so you still have to add a quality monitor to the equation of building a PC.

@Ezz2013
"Would you ever need 4TB though ?!"

My PC has a 120GB SSD for the system disk and a 3TB 720rpm storage disk of which I have only used about 50% of the disk and this is over years of accumulated data.

2.5" 4TB drives are out although you are going to be paying US$200.00 (new egg) or more for them.

Like many 2.5" backup devices sold on the market today you really have to look at the performance of the hard ...

That is assuming you have a VR game that is designed for the player to physically move their whole body. Doing that invites litigation especially if the player trips or hits someone.

When using the PSMove on the PS3 you can actually move your whole body, however you can still see your surroundings. Putting a VR headset on can be very dangerous if the game allows the person to move their whole body more than one meter since you normally will not be able to see what is in the ...

You are right consoles do have a lower price entry than a decent PC gaming machine, however it all comes down to games that the gamer wants to play.

For me playing RPG's on a console is better value for my money than playing RPG's on a PC although to be fair I have never liked on-line and especially on-line only RPG's.

Actually my PC cost me more than US$800 to build. In fact my processor actually cost me more than my PS4.

I suggest doing some research before making a flame-bait comment like that.

The are exclusive games for the PS4 but there are plenty of multi-platform games for it as well.

Exclusive is nice but for me not essential. Since I personally like RPG's, most games I get will take me anything from 40 to 100+ hours so I am quite happy with one console platform.

There are some games that I know are exclusive to some platforms which I would also like to play but I am not going to buy that platform for one or two games when I am battling to...

Actually I built my PC with the latest Skylake chip-set and it only took less then 30 minutes to install my operating system then 15 minutes to customise it for wireless, then additional software that I wanted and add my family accounts.

Total recovery of data (2.5TB) took in the order of over six hours but the machine was usable prior to the start of my data recovery.

Total cost of all legitimate software was $0.00 and no I don't pirate software.

For most PC gaming the normal way of playing is to have your face within about about half a meter (about 1.5 feet) of the screen which can get pretty hard on the eyes over time.

For console gaming the best way for you face is anything from one to four meters depending on your screen size and the image you are viewing. See the following URL: http://www.rtings.com/tv/le...

The PS4 does not use DirectX 11 or 12 since that is a Microsoft proprietary graphics library.

Internet download speeds have very little to do with the performance of your network card although you have to be aware of the 802.11 protocol that your card is using.

a - 6 to 54 Mb/sec
b - 1 to 11 Mb/sec
g - 6 to 54 Mb/sec
n - 15 to 150 Mb/sec for 2.4GHz band and 13.5 to 135 Mb/sec for 5GHz band

There are others so look them up.

When you see Mb/sec a rule of thumb is divide by 9 (optimistic) or 10 (more in line with ...

"The cores in consoles are weak compared to a PC"

The PS4 and the XB1 are both based on Intel x86-64 architecture and as such are basically dedicated gaming PC's.

As to performance that depends what processor you are comparing against. Compared to the processors in majority of PC's sold the AMD processors are pretty good and are usually better performing.

Compared against the latest i7 over-c...

As much as I like Bloodborne I do think "The Witcher 3" on the harder difficulties is one of the best RPG's I have played to date and I am saying this even though I have played Skyrim.

How about a compromise. TW3 for the best single player RPG across multiple platforms and Bloodborne as the best exclusive platform RPG.

"Bloodbore" Is that a sequel to Bloodborne? ;-)

I fully agree, it is the context of the slogan that is important. Unfortunately it can also be abused.

I know the following is a bit of a nit pick but let me take Microsoft as an example since most people here would be familiar with the generic terminology that is used.

Ok now what is the first thing that comes to mind when I say the following generic words: Office, Word, Windows, Access, Outlook, Excel and Project.

I think there would be ver...

The only multi-player games I play are the Souls series.

What I do like about these games is the cooperative game-play although you do have to request assistance. I don't mind helping other players as well although I have never been interested in invading. Most of the time though you are on your own.

With PvP I can hold my own if the person I am going against is a magic user especially if I limit myself to level 15 in Dark Souls.

I do ...

You are right in saying MS Windows 10 is free "providing" you have a legitimate MS Windows 7 or 8.0 or 8.1 operating system.

When I built my PC I just installed Linux on it and everything I want to do and more just works so I did not need to buy a license.

I counter: Linux is amazing. Sorry you refuse to accept it.

So Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony don't owe us anything? Fine I guess we the consumer don't need to buy their products either.

Show me a business that adopts that type of attitude and I will show you a business that is going out of business.

I take it you have priced storage in terms of Cents/GB. Hard Disk Drives (ie. HDD) are still by far the cheapest although Solid State Disks (ie. SSD) are becoming much more viable in terms of cost and reliability.

As for HDSD cards, they are great for the portable transferring of data and could be considered as the functional equivalent to the now obsolete Floppy disk which some people still use to this day.

I am a little confused by what you mean by protecti...

My car still has a CD player which will never be used. Leaving a pile of CD's in my car were the internal temperature can climb over 60 degrees C during summer is asking for trouble.

What my player can do is play all my music via USB key or via the Bluetooth connection on my mobile phone all controllable via buttons on my steering wheel, so I have no incentive of keeping CD's in my car. Oh it also plays the radio as well.

Cartridges as well as any sol...
