I am well aware of upgrade paths a desktop PC can take, however for an upgradable console it must also have been built so that it is upgradable which does add to the initial overall costs.
In general the only PC that is fully upgradable is the Desktop PC. Laptops and to a lesser extent tablets can also be upgraded but normally only the memory and storage (ie. SSD and/or HDD). Of course there are exceptions but you are going to pay more.
Consoles are normally ...
While I do agree with you in principle I don't think this would force console users to make the switch to PC's.
I personally have a powerful Skylake chip-set PC that actually supports 4K via HDMI at the motherboard level, however my machine cost me four times what I paid for my PS4 so I use my PS4 for gaming and my PC for my other computing needs. I can use my monitor (has two HDMI inputs) to switch between PC and PS4 very quickly so I do have the best of all worlds. ...
An upgradable console in theory is fine but a desktop PC is the ultimate upgradable home computer. Even laptops have a limited upgrade path. Tablets even more so.
It is highly unlikely that an upgradable console will ever have upgrades that are cheaper than a desktop PC. In fact most console upgrades such as disk, memory cards, controller ... etc are more expensive than their PC counterparts.
At least with the PS3 and PS4 the disks can be replaced with standa...
Yes we know that all PC users have 75", 4k, 120Hz or better monitors. /s
You can output a 1080p PS4 game to a 4k or even 8k display which will up-scale and enhance the input accordingly.
As for 4k gaming - oh please there are very few native games now and you need a very powerful and expensive graphics card to get do better than 4k 60 fps.
As for trade ins and getting $200 off the price of the new console, highly doubtful. Basically if you wish to treat a console like a mobile phone then you need to be on a plan or don't mind ...
Oh a car analogy this time rather then mobile phones.
Yes it is possible to upgrade a car, however most countries now require an engineering certificate stating that the car is roadworthy.
As for faster yes the government loves this for revenue raising.
Stronger, (LOL) possible, but usually the other way around. This is why we have to get a roadworthy certificate.
Better, what may be better for you may not be in the eyes of ...
For a console to be upgradeable then it must be designed to be be upgradeable. Sure it is possible to de-solder the old and resolder the new however this is not a job easily done with a 25W soldering iron brought from your local hardware store.
@Khaotic
Sigh! I read this all the time.
Comparing mobile phones to consoles is rather stupid. Have you ever costed a mobile phone such as an iPhone 6 or a Samsung Galaxy 4, 5, 6?

The N64 was designed to take a RAM expansion if wanted while the PS4 and XB1 are not designed to take any form of expansion (exception the disk drive of the PS4).
Note: The disk drive in the XB1 can be changed however you will void your warranty if you do so.
The only way to upgrade the PS4 and the XB1 is to get the so called enhanced chips, de-solder the old and resolder the new chips back in. Not exactly a job for most people.
You only have to look at the NES controller and you have instant RSI.
IMHO the best controller Nintendo made was for the SNES and which pretty much all controllers were modelled after. Actually when I first saw the SNES controller I thought "Here we go again - sigh!". However I was pleasantly surprised.
Don't believe me. Take a top down look at the SNES controller and then take the same top down look ot the GameCube, PlayStation and XBox control...
@moldybread
Sort of like the PS3 boomerang controller which was actually more practical in a weird way than the so called NX controller fake (hopefully).
It's great what you can do with image manipulation software these days.
Wow a 2TB drive and you are still running out of room.
Well you could go for a Samsung 15TB SSD and your load performance would be in the order of plus 500MB/sec. There is only one problem it isn't cheap so you won't get much change from $8000.00. Just think you won't run out of space for a few years.

While I do agree with you, some people don't like standing in line and would rather pay a premium to get a product that they perceive will be sold out on release day. Basically it is these people that scalpers are hoping to sell too and I am quite sure they won't be disappointed.
Before the PS4 was released the scalpers were out in force and some did make a killing mainly because some people can't wait.
Some people have non-disclosure agreements (NDA) and may find it difficult to legally work for another firm unless their new job does not conflict with the NDA terms.
You need to remember that in order to make a game and make money you must produce a game that people are going to buy.
Evolution Studios have only made ten games between 2001 and 2014. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wi...
There has been only one game (Driveclub - https://en.wikipedia.org/wi... developed fo...
Don't you think that comfort is one of the most important features of any VR headset?
Personally I don't care if the PSVR does not have the so called quality or performance of the other VR headsets if it can do the job and is comfortable over long periods then that is fine for me.
One thing I did not like in TW3 as well as Skyrim and Oblivion was the ability to change the difficulty setting on the fly. Personally I refuse to do this since I view it as a form of cheating but since those games are single player then the player who does this is only cheating themselves.
Playing TW3 on the harder modes is IMHO the only way to truly appreciate the mechanics of the game.
I fully agree with PixelGateUk that Normal is far too easy and the best...
I do agree that being able to save anywhere IMHO makes the game much easier. I know you can tell yourself that you are going to save at specific place but very few will do that.
I am still playing The Witcher3 on "Death March" and you really have to concentrate on the fighting as the enemies are so much stronger and the AI is smarter as well. You can pretty much save anywhere although there are places where you cannot save. One feature I do like is when you bring up...
I like the latest tech too although my wallet does not.
If I want an upgradable PC I build a Desktop PC, if I want a portable I get a laptop or tablet, if I want handheld I get a mobile smart phone on a plan. If I just want a gaming machine that I don't have to worry about upgrading except for storage then I get a console.
The PS4 and the XB1 can already play 4k videos either by Blu-Ray, file or streaming. They can't play 4k games though since that requires a more powerful graphics card which will add to the consoles cost.
It's all well and good being able to play 4k but you do have to get a 4k display device be it UHDTV or a 4k monitor.
With 8k coming out this year many people will prefer that to 4k and when 8k drops in price (1 to 2 years) which it will 4k will be mar...
Any console be it last generation or current can display full screen on a 4k or even 8k (due out this year) TV or monitor and depending on the model may actually enhance the input.
To output 4k content from a game at 60 fps and more requires a powerful graphics card which actually can cost more than a current PS4 or XB1 console. Obviously you need a 4K or 8k display as well.

At your convenience go to a store that ...
