While I do agree with you the PS4slim is functionally the same although slightly cosmetically different to the original PS4 sans the optical out which I don't use anyway. I use the optical out from my TV which means I control all devices via my TV not my amplifier. Like any device or object beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

What is even better is the article also mentioned to their credit that they did not factor in the cost of the OS which would probably add an additional $50 (OEM prices) upwards. Yes I do know that Windows 10 is free if you already have a Windows 7 or 8 license.

I definitely do agree that $400 (also includes HDMI 2.0a plus cable) is pretty good value for money.

I am a PS3/PS4 gamer and have been for years. I also have a high-end PC which I don't use for gaming, hence I don't have a powerful graphics card.

IMHO the article was very fair and in many ways praised the PS4pro potential specs.

Well having both PC and console is the better way to enjoy gaming.

What is really the most important in having a PC and console is the monitor and the ease of switching between them (mine toggles in about 2 to 3 seconds). It also best to select a monitor that is comfortable on the eyes to use. Some people would say that for a monitor the bigger or the highest resolution the better. It's more complicated than that and this is why you should always do your research and do...

@yeahokwhatever

I do have a high-end PC however I am not a PC gamer. I have the best of all worlds in that I have my PS4 (can also do this with my PS3 as well) connected to my spare HDMI port on my IPS monitor and I can toggle between PC and PS4 in seconds depending on what I want to do.

The problem you find with PC's is the fact that many people go cheap initially and then they find that they have to upgrade to keep up with the latest games. It would...

Any developer that adopts the attitude of "Hey don't like our game's performance on standard? Go buy a pro" is IMHO arrogant and at the very least has a poor business sense.

Say as an example you are the developer of a particular game and you have a target potential of say 45 million PS4's and say 5 million PS4pro's. Do you think that the developer of said game would be stupid enough to say something like recommending the PS4pro over the PS4. It wo...

Have you read the article?

In my honest opinion the article is fair and the writer if anything was impressed as to the potential of what the PS4pro could do. It was interesting to see that the build cost $630.91 USD sans the cost of the OS which many comparison builders conveniently forget to include along with external peripherals such as a controller and in the case of a PC a "decent" keyboard and mouse.

Note: When I say "decent" I d...

I am assuming COD - Infinite Warfare (4th November 2016) and Battlefield 1 (21st October 2016) are the games you are talking about and as I have shown in brackets they both release this year as does the PS4pro (10th November 2016). Microsofts's Scorpio or whatever they are going to call it will release in Q4 of 2017 which will be close to a year after the PS4pro releases.

Say CODIW and BF1 do look better graphically when played on the Scorpio to a 4K TV what does that ...

A dev kit for the "Scorpio" or even an XB1 need only be a high-end PC and Microsoft Windows 10 with DirectX 12 because that is what is currently the operating system of the XB1. DirectX 12 is the API suite for handling tasks related to multimedia, especially game programming and video, on Microsoft platforms.

A dev kit for the PS4 and PS4pro can also be a high-end PC that supports any of the open platform API's such as OpenGL and Vulcan to name two, however it...

@Tobsesan

If you care to read what I said properly I was talking about PC gaming in the last sentence.

"It's only an arrogant or ignorant developer who develops a game that can only be played on a high-end PC."

Probably the better word for "ignorant" would be "poor business sense" since the high-end PC market is relatively small and what they should and the majority of developers do is to produce a game...

Easy. Any game that plays on the PS4 will play on the PS4pro and any game that is enhance when playing on the PS4pro will also be able to be played on the PS4. PC's have been able to do this for years. It's only an arrogant or ignorant developer who develops a game that can only be played on a high-end PC.

The rumors about the Neo was just that "a rumor" since it was never officially announced. When Sony finally did announce the PS4pro the company gave specifications, a release date that being 10th Nov 2016 and a price. of $399.00 USD.

All Microsoft has done was announce the Scorpio and it's specs but no release date or tentative price.

I went off Microsoft Windows operating systems years ago and since Windows 10 released I am glad I did.

Before I am branded a Microsoft hater I am not although I do dislike their practices. For those who have Windows 10 please look at your Security Settings and remember that by default all these settings were "on".

If you have turned all or most of the settings to "off" then good for you at least you value some semblance of privacy alt...

@shiva1

The PS4pro was announced officially with a price and availability date. The "Neo" was just rumors with no official announcement. The "Scorpio" was announced by Microsoft officially at E3 but there was no proposed release date or price.

As for "Why is Pro required in first place?". No one is forcing you to get one but on the 10th Nov 2016 you can purchase a 1TB one for $399.00 USD if you wish.

Designing a PC is almost ridiculously simple if you stick to conventions and from initial design to picking parts, assembling them and installing an operating system should take someone with a little technical knowledge a few hours. Youtube is full of examples of this.

Obviously, if you wish to take the build and shrink it so it will fit in a nice case that gets harder since you have to basically redesign the motherboard so that all appropriate electronics will fit and work...

Ah! I think I see why you and "Bennibop" got so many disagrees.

It appears Microsoft's research team of applied magic has broken the boundaries of time and space and now those select few who given their souls can play the Scorpio via da cloud. 😉

In less than two months (10th Dec 2016 @ $400 USD) the PS4pro comes out and if you want to wait for the Scorpio or whatever Microsoft decides to call it you will have to wait an additional year and we still have no idea what the price will be.

@Kribwalker

Sure there will be a significant difference in power but within two months people will be playing games and even streaming 4K movies on all PS4's (you can do this now) to their 4K TV's (small in ...

Great if your family get a 4K TV however even if you get a PS4pro as well you are going to be in conflict with your family as to what the family 4K TV and PS4pro are used for.

If the PS4pro is mainly for you then you should seriously consider a decent sized monitor. You can actually get quite decent and cheap 1080p monitors in the 27" upwards size although you should know that the larger the monitor the greater the cost and this is the same for a 4K TV. Obviously, a pr...

Actually, the serious PC gamer will opt for the best performing gaming rig and they are quite willing to spend the money getting the best or the closest you can to the best. In fact, a serious gamer will only play games they like even if it means playing on a console.

You are quite right it's the so called PC elitists who may have the money to purchase a good quality rig but are usually pretty hopeless when up against a skilled gamer even if that gamer has what some PC ...
