Well, the real proof is in the sales and since the PS4pro will be available for sale come 10th November 2016 we shall see.
If people are so but hurt with the PS4pro not having a UHD BD player then they are welcome to purchase something else although no matter what device you get that will play UHD Bluray disks Sony still gets a cut.
Well if you want technical you could look at how the old H264 codec is being superseded by the new H265 codec which can reduce the overall size of the stream or file by over 50% with little if any loss of quality. It even support 8K as well. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wi... for more details.
There are other techniques of reducing a stream such as changing 8bit (the norm) to 10bit and...
Wait a minute you have a 4K TV and you are a videophile but you don't have a 4K Bluray player and now you are going to get an XB1s because the PS4pro is not going to have a 4K Bluray player and you refuse to stream?
So you must be making do with those HD Bluray disks that only output poor resolution 1080p video, because at the moment I take it you can't play your limited selection of 4K Bluray disks (assuming you have some) since you don't have a player.
Oh! so you did not mind when Microsoft forced Windows 10 on you or that by default Windows 10 does not respect your privacy.
The PC is also my preferred platform but I don't run a Microsoft operating system on it.
I buy a gaming machine to play games, not watch movies although the capability to watch HD Bluray disks is definately there. Unfortunately, some people can't seem to understand this. What next, insisting on it playing CD's or vinyl r...
There is no such thing as 1080p HDR and it is unlikely there ever will be, however if a game or stream has HDR10 support then it can be sent to a 4K or UHD TV which has HDR10 capability and if the resolution is 1080p it will be upscaled by the TV to fit the screen.
Actually the HD standard was 720p, 1080p and 1080i. What gets confusing is the aspect ratio which is width times height. Normally the industry compromise (note I did not say standard) was 16:9 since it sort of allowed all other aspects ratios to fit the screen although you did get what was called letterboxing.
For 4K and/or UHD displays I think I will draw your attention to the following article: 3548d ago 1 agree0 disagreeView comment
The following is verbatim from the second paragraph of the article:
"While our investigation into the PS4's HDMI controller—via the electronics sleuthing of NeoGaf user Jeff Rigby—led us to believe that the PS4's HDMI port might indeed feature the required bandwidth to push a 2.0 signal, that still leaves the question of what exactly PS4 users can do with HDR support right now, and what, if any, HDR content is on the way.
As it turns out: not...
Do you honestly think streaming services such as Netflix won't come out with an application (they actually have a 1080p one on the PS4) that will support streaming of 4K HDR10 movies? If they have done it for the XB1s (less than 1 million) why not for a potential customer base of 43 plus million?
As for comparing 4K streaming against a 4K Bluray player there is no real contest, obviously the 4K player will produce the better output but for the majority of people who hav...
Well, it does matter to Sony since they are a major stakeholder in the Bluray consortium. Even if Sony doesn't put a 4K Bluray player in the PS4pro they will get license fees from Microsoft for putting Bluray readers in their consoles. 😉
@Errorist76
The headline may read as sensationalist but it is correct. Until content providers and developers make use of the new HDR feature of the PS4 it is "just a useless menu option".
Basically when Sony provided an update to support HDR10 and HDMI 2.0a to all PS4's developers and content providers were literally caught with their pants down.
Of course, the HDR update may be useless now but if there are 40 plus millio...
Ars Technica is a well respected Technical web site and actually prides itself of writing well written technical and predominately non-biased articles.

All PS3's support 3D (originally changed by an update). It just so happens that the ability to play a 3D movie or even a 3D game (yes there are some) requires you to have a 3D capable TV. This is a fact and I dare anyone to disprove it since I do have a 3D TV and 3D movies work on my original PS3.
The HDR update for the PS4 requires the user to have an HDR10 capable TV. Unfortunately, I can't prove or disprove what the update actually does since I don't have a 4...
Wow what a comment from Pachter, I am definitely here for the beer and popcorn. 😉
Edit: Ah stuff it! I think I will play Bloodborne instead which I don't think we will see on the PC anytime soon.
A more interesting question to ask is "Where do I want to do my gaming?"
Let me elaborate. Many people think that they have to get a decent TV for the lounge or living area. This is fine and I would recommend a larger screen although you should always consider size to viewing distance (see: http://www.rtings.com/tv/re... as an example). Obviously, you should also ...
Yes, yes we know all that but the main problem with the Scorpio is that it only exists on paper or test bench at the moment with it's proposed release in about a year from now. Until a release date and price are officially given out the Scorpio is vapourware.
I personally could easily design, pick up the parts, assemble them and install an operating system in a few hours that could easily surpass the Scorpio specifications. Of course, it would not be cheap and it would ...
From what I can gather The Witness is a puzzle game and those type of games rarely need high framerate so 30fps would have been adequate while high definition (ie. 1080p in this case) would be more appropriate. It looks like the developers got it wrong.
Oh well! I have never been into puzzle games so I don't care.
Most games that the iPhone and Android have are free or if not they are fairly cheap and are usually full of advertising, microtransactions and especially "pay to win" microtransaction. If you think that is a good thing well it's your money but I won't have a bar to do with that type of greed.
Actually, on the Playstation store Ratchet and Clank has dropped by over 50% in price as are some other games although I suggest you check them out since what I like may not be to your liking.
Must hold back, I just purchased The Old Hunters DLC for 70% off the price since I am a PS+ member. I actually got smashed when I entered the new area. Sigh! time to "git gud" again. 😉 (Dying and loving it)
BTW. If you purchase the Old Hunters DLC...
You probably mean something like the Omega Dungeon towards the end of FFX. I actually thought my party was pretty good but I was wiped out in the first battle although I did persevere and got to the end of the Dungeon and the game was not like those wimpy games where you can save every few seconds, repeat a failed battle and even fiddle with a difficulty setting or slider. Malboro! got to hate them. 😉
I kind of thought that Sony would have a UHD BD player in the Pro at least but they didn't . Shrugs shoulders and goes back to gaming.
