Innovation is good and all.
But there is something to be said for games that ship without a lot of major flaws. Ubisoft consistently does that.
@aaronaton
I am not sure that is entirely true.
I am not sure graphics were the sole reason to delay the game. That is really all the storm was about.
I think they assessed everything and decided the best thing to do was delay. The reasons for the delay was not just the campaign showing. At that point MP wasn't even revealed yet. I think they looked and thought about everything and decided the best course of action was a delay.
The point is they did the right thing and delayed shipping. There are a lot of games where this was not true. CyberPunk being the best example.
Every company is trying to do the absolute minimum to maintain profitability. Microsoft is no different. But, you have to be happy they made the right decision and delayed the game. With a console launch and marketing deals and campaigns already in flight. Imagine balancing "do we ship a game that got grilled in its showi...
@Epicor
Agreed. roguelike is more a mechanic then a genre. Kind of like first person and third person games. They all can be in any genre. They are mechanics and perspectives as you play the game.
And people wonder why the AppStore needs to become more open. Apple is raping money from gamers that use the platform.
I don't see how MS "has to" nail or "damn near perfect" Halo. I think it is important for the franchise long term for Halo Infinite to be good and to satisfy the Halo fanbase. And when I say good it should rate 85 or higher on Metacritic. But neither XB nor MS are putting all their eggs in the Halo basket.
What MS has to do is improve the ratings of games from their first party studios in general. Too many games ship in the 60's and 70's ...
Too me these are two very different games and should not be compared. They are in the same genre (rogue-like) but that is pretty much where the similarity ends.
@Neonridr
American Nightmare was more story and I found the game controls to be tighter and more refined.
Any Alan Wake Remaster should have the entire Alan Wake story that was on 360.
Yes
I have stopped buying and even playing most of the major sport games.
There are so many other games to spend my time playing. No sense grinding my way through any of the major sports franchises.
Aaron Greenberg is marketing...
I do not trust marketing. Nor do I trust the people spreading Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt (FUD) about the campaign. I will trust what I see when it is released. Sources like word of mouth from people I trust and played the campaign and reviews that are not from fanboys on all sides of the fence.
If you are remastering a game for a newer era isn't it also important that you remaster the flaws that were in the gameplay and were annoying to gamers?
There are several things they could've done to bring Alan Wake forward. It is well documented that Alan Wake was overly ambitious for 360. Why didn't they spend the time to improve the core systems as part of the remaster but still keeping true to the game it was? The answer is simply money. By taking a mini...
I played thru this on 360. Kind of disappointed they didn't do more to improve the remaster. Also extremely disappointed they did not include the American Nightmare story.
Essentially, since this is new to PS I thought they would've went all out on the remaster. But it looks like they just cheaped out and did the minimum to get sales.
I don't know how this means certain death in Japan for XB.
If rumors are correct there is about 30 mln subscribers on GamePass. Not sure how you call that a useless gimmick. Microsoft just found a really good model to supply games to its customers. That does not make it a gimmick.
As for gaming only retailers. The writing is on the wall as gamers shift more and more to digital purchasing. In 10 years gaming only retailers are going the same route...
@Magog
Gamers do not have to pay additionally for Dolby Vision. Some TVs come with Dolby vision built in. All you are doing is turning on the XB feature to support Dolby Vision and any game that supports Dolby Vision works with it. This is not a paid feature, it is just a special feature for people who have TVs that support it.
It is really sad when GOTY goes to a game that was just re-released in 2021.
How about money? The console stores take a far bigger cut on sales so if they sell more on PC they make more money. Also, since PC has many stores (Steam, Windows Epic, etc.) they continually compete for a share keeping these store prices low. Plus they have a more direct relationship with their consumers. On console it is about Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo. On PC, the stores are just stores and the relationship is more direct with the consumer.
I think that Bluepoint will be Sony's version of From Software.
You have to remember that football is a real serious sport for the entire continents of South America, Europe, Africa, and a large part of Asia.
When I spent six months in Europe, I found out that they take Football seriously. Calling football soccer in most of the world is like telling an American that they can't own a gun any more. You are pushing the hot button in both cases.
