1) Go up
2) Go Down
3) Stay the same
They don't always go up so they could go down or stay the same.
Also, with a lot of people bought new hardware with this new generation, so they don't have as much to spend on games. Therefore, it is quite logical that game sales go down. ...

I don't think XB GamePass gamers are losing anything from buying GamePass.
I don't think Microsoft is losing because of GamePass. They seem quite happy with it.
And I don't see any publishers/developers complaining that GamePass has not lived up to expectations.

That is not awful. They are taking the equivalent of a full modern PC or full modern console and downsizing it for portability. There are sacrifices you have to make to do that. If any of these companies could easily make a portable version without sacrifices portables would be sold by everyone. It is all about design choices. Both by the hardware vendors and the game designers.

The game ships on XBO, PS4, XB Series, and PC....
And PC has both unlimited resolution and framerate but no HDR. so why are they bragging about XB Series in the title? If I have an 4K capable card that can produce 120 fps wouldn't that be better then a 4K, 60 fps, HDR version? Better yet in the near future I might be able to get 8K at 60 FPS on PC.

I quite enjoyed the time I have played Returnal (not completed at all yet - I have discovered I suck at Rogue-like games).
But to be honest Sony usually brags about sales numbers. And there is none of that here. And even in worldwide charts in the months since release Spider-man MM has continued to dominate software sales on PS5 with Returnal barely showing up for the most part.

Shipping on the current gen console vs fully re-writing the engine and game to take advantage of the current generation consoles are two very different things.
I hope they are truly redoing the game for this generation of consoles but the reality is that they coined this a remaster, so it is probably just a graphical upgrade with the engine game engine getting minor upgrades.

Their recent remasters are really good, but they have had some very average remasters before that. Burnout Remastered, NFS remasters, etc.

Obviously these people don't own XB. I'm sure people that own an XB or multiple consoles (with XB being one of them) like myself would be more interested in Psychonauts 2 then the PS4 release of Godfall.
Actually I don't even know how you could call Godfall a major release. It rated poorly, and the developers lied about it being “tailored to run only on Sony’s new console”. Probably about 90% of games released this month will rate better then Godfall. And ...

It would definitely add appeal to XB. And I would buy one for sure. I am on the fence with Steam Deck. I wanna buy one, but I want to know that I will be able to install windows on it, it will work, and I can install Windows Store (therefore gamepass), Steam, and Epic game store games on it.
And yes, they have stated you can install any OS, but saying that in marketing is a lot different then...

My point really is that there are really no enemies here, and every company is more frenemies. And Apple not be where they are today if they didn't make that investment.
They all buy patents off each other and they all share technologies strategically. This is nothing new. And how the consumers view enemies is different then how companies view enemies.
Even Sony and Microsoft have partnerships where it makes sense.

Honestly, I don't think console sales do matter much. None of these vendors make money directly on hardware.
They make money from royalties on their platform, subscription services, and game sales. And in Microsoft's case those sales can now come on PC, XB console, and smart phones. So, XB console may not be their primary revenue.
