If it is dead why do new installments of the main story sell around 8 million copies?
I guess there are a lot of dead games out there as even multiplatform games have a hard time selling that much.
Nice to see features that are for gamers! Being able to download, play, and then provide feedback to games prior to general release will hopefully lift the quality of games that do ship going forward!
The funny thing is I don't think anyone actually read the article.
They are talking that "Halo defines a generation" not that "Halo will define a generation" as the title reads. They are talking about the people's views on Halo, not defining a console generation.
MS has said in the past that Halo is the "Star Wars" of the 2000's... It is hard to argue with that. Name a media ip that competes with Halo as a space IP...

I don't really care if my X1 is the best selling console or not.
I game, to play the games like every gamer should.
And with the current and next year's lineup of games I am more than excited and happy with my X1 purchase. Hopefully Microsoft keeps this going in the years that follow and I continue to enjoy my X1 for years to come.
I'm not going to defend the article because I think it is flawed as well. But, your comment is also flawed.
If the PS4 price cut moves consoles, I am sure MS will ensure they are priced to move consoles as well. Sony does not have a monopoly on price cuts. And last holiday MS got aggressive with price cuts.
What about Star Wars? Battlefront is also on X1. And the game lacks a real single player campaign which is going to hurt its total sales.

This is cheap compared to many of the development kits I have purchased.
Kits can be as low as free or as high as several hundred thousand dollars.
Considering they provide you with the hardware and the development kit software this is about average for specialized devices and their software development kits.
Rain racing is really good in Forza Motorsports 6.
But, it is the exact same rain at every course (splatters the same and is the same intensity)
What I would like to see is games vary their rainfall based on their location. I have travelled the world and rain is not the same everywhere! This goes for all games. Not just Forza.
I probably would be scared to walk through my house if they came out with a Resident Evil for HoloLens!
HoloLens and VR are two completely different things.
HoloLens is a stand alone computer. MS has stated this at every demo. No XB or PC required. Just HoloLens.
Initially it will probably be expensive, but just like every other tech item (including VR) they will drop in price as they are mass produced more.
That said, I think its price point at retail will be at or over $1,000 which will make it a niche device. For the next 5 years that...
That was an awesome demo. Microsoft is making HoloLens into quite the device.
The interesting thing is that it is not an accessory but a computer in itself. You don't need an XB or PC to use it, it is stand alone.

To me Rock Band is different than Guitar Hero. Think of Guitar Hero as a bare bones core game. Rock Band is much more for everyone. More song variety for many instruments and more friendly in presentation to gamers. But it can be just as hard as guitar...

I agree with your comment, but to be fair, the OS in X1 is built from the ground up.
I think they should've made this a priority, but, I also understand that when schedules and money are involved you have to make priorities.
They didn't remove the feature though. They just never implemented it in the new OS yet.

What does the PS3 have to do with my comment? I was simply pointing out that there are a lot of 360's unaccounted for this generation. In relation to this article a lot of people are commenting that BC has little to do with getting more sales. But, the numbers are contrary to that.

The issue, fix, and MS commitment to replace RRoD was announced at 10.5 million console sold. The absolute most consoles replaced by owners re-buying X360 would've been 10.5 million.
Realistically it would be maybe 5 million.
Consider the fact that X360 is at almost 85 million consoles sold right now instead of my 80 million I stated in my first post and my numbers still stand.
Same can be said for Sony.
They have carried Last Guardian for 6 years now through the press.
DriveClub was supposed to be a launch title and advertised as a launch title but delayed a year and that got them press for two years. If you include their fixing of DriveClub issues they got about 2.5 years of press.
Uncharted 4 was announced at E3 2013 so it also has been getting press for over two years.

I am perfectly fine with my X1.
Rare Replay, Gears Ultimate, Halo 5, Forza Motorsports 6, and Rise of the Tomb Raider, and Fable Legends are a strong first party lineup for this holiday.
Then, we already have Quantum Break, Crackdown 3, Recore, Scalebound, Sea of Thieves, and Gears of War 4 for next year!
I know other consoles have great games scheduled as well, but I am perfectly fine with this first party lineup on X1.
