And World of Tanks and Warframe.
I quit buying stand alone gaming portables once smart phones caught on as gaming devices.
I have to pack my phone around. Carrying a stand alone portable gaming device is just too much.
They are good for kids before they get a smart phone, but I see no place for them long term.
I would rather see a 7" or 8" tablet version of PS3 or PS4.
I'm sure it will boost it...
But, will it be significant?
So does risk require a new IP?
Taking risk isn't only about the story you are telling.
It could be creating new online experiences, new settings for stories, new gameplay elements, etc. Publishers taking risk is not just about building new IPs.
Actually approval rating is important at these events from fans.
If you fanbase is liking what you are doing they are likely to spread the word and talk about your product in a positive way with other people. If your fanbase doesn't see a lot of positives and gives a low approval rating they are likely just to sit tight and not talk about the product.
Asking a bunch of random people on the street in Japan about XB is about the same as asking someone in t...
To me, it still doesn't matter. Total sales of consoles in Japan are much lower than they used to be.
Japan seems to be the land of the setting sun of consoles.
I don't think it interesting at all to see how XB performs in Japan anytime soon.
Scalebound is looking like a strong game, but XB sells less than 1,000 consoles per week in Japan. Even a ten fold increase would not challenge Sony or Nintendo.
But, it is good that MS continues to push XB in Japan and maybe at some point it may become competitive. Just not in the next 1-4 years.
@DanielGearSolid
So, when you go to Japan and say you have your best lineup ever it has to have a Japanese game?
That's just dumb... gor games to be part of the greatest lineup ever they do not have to be Japanese.
@Spotie
I mentioned Disgaea. Samurai Warrior games have a following, but the Metacritic rating for them has NEVER got to 80 (76 is the best ever) and sales are usually a few hundred thousand not millions... Dragons Quest will ...
Agreed completely.
The worst moment of any action based game is when your health is low in the game and then the framerate stumbles, and you die because you get shot or sliced 16 times and only saw one of them. Especially when you are playing on the higher difficulty settings. Every framerate counts. Resolution can drop a few 100 pixels, but that won't cause you to die.
As a racing game enthusiast I really, really hate comparisons between arcade racers and driving simulators. These two games are in completely different genres...
Anyone comparing these two games with each other has to understand where Forza Motorsports is putting its processing. And it is not as much about visuals (although they are solid) as it is about having each car drive like its real world counterpart and have every track act exactly like its real world counterpart. ...
Does a lineup have to have Japanese games to be great?
Last time I checked... Up until this year, the Japanese games have been light on next gen platforms.
So, now, this holiday Sony is shipping a few Japanese games (Notably though, Persona 5 got delayed to next year) so really the only Japanese game anyone is truly interested in is Disgaea.
Now and all of a sudden the conversation in every N4G thread about "the xbox's greatest game...
So how many RPGs this gen are 60 FPS?
I do not agree that games should be automatically $100.
But, I wish that all games be required to state the costs and potential costs up front so that consumers may make an informed decision on whether to buy in or not.
There is nothing I hate more than spending 50 hours on a game to get all the achievements/trophies and then have them release a $25 DLC with 6 more achievements/trophies. There are people who care about their completion percentage of achievem...
My point is ports should be lumped in as repetitive content with re-masters and collections. This would significantly change the 10% more to 30-50% at least.
Saying that only 10% of games this gen are re-masters and collections does not tell the real story. There is a large portion of content this generation ported to consoles and even many games that were exclusive last gen are going multiplatform with the same game this gen (Ex. Back to the Future coming to XB).
It is not new content because gamers have already experienced the shipped version of it. Just because your device of choice never had the game does not make it a new game.
For example TLOU is considered a re-master. But there are many people that bought PS4 and never played the game before. Does that make it a new game?
To me, it is the same with a game like Thomas Was Alone. First on PC in 2012, then PS3 in 2013. So, on PS4 and X1 in 2014... So is it a r...
We have already seen gameplay, and it has looked solid. I see no reason to be concerned.
I cannot believe that comment gets disagrees.
A perfect example of quality over quantity is Journey on the PS consoles. Sony fans love that game (and I did too), but it sure wasn't a long lasting experience!
What this article fails to talk about is ports from PC and other consoles as well...
A lot of the Indie games were ported from PC to consoles.
To me, ports, re-masters, and collections are all the same. They are not new content. They are just a repackaging of previous content.
There is nothing wrong with it, but people should know that they are not buying new and original content.
PS1 was Sony unseating dominant competition. PS2 was Sony's best console. PS3 was Sony taking gamers for granted and because of the X360 providing strong competition Sony came out swinging with the PS4. Competition has been good for all gamers.
Last generation lasted a long time because there was not enough new and different tech to jump to a new generation. Both console vendors stated early on that it was going to be a 10 year generation. And we are witnessing this ...
Konami are going to spend another $50-80 million of shareholders money just so they can stick their middle finger up at Kojima. /s
