VR is far too expensive today for what it is. Console accessories do best when they are below $100. PSVR at $399 is too expensive to just buy. Add on the PlayStation Neo as the new PS4 over the next year and you are looking at a $800-1000 investment over the next year... And all that after people bought new consoles only a few years ago to start this generation. Lots of people just don't have the disposable money for this kind of ongoing investment.
There will be a...
No company can lead in every category of gaming tech. They have to pick and choose.
Microsoft has chosen not to lead in VR because PC VR started well before console VR and is continuing to evolve. Why build VR when many others are already doing it? I think it is a really smart strategy. Microsoft is making sure that they are playing in VR by providing common platform interfaces for VR. But they don't need to make the VR device. This allows them to focus their reso...
More mobile commitment from Sony has to come from somewhere. They don't have a ton of new studios and have actually reduced the number of studios letting Evolution and Sony Online go multi-platform and away from Sony.
I'm sure it will help their bottom line. But, it doesn't bode well for new and more console games.
I don't remember anything in Rimeskeem's post saying MS was any better.
I think this is a problem the industry needs to fix. People buy consoles based on the games they can and will be able to play. When console vendors essentially lie about when games will ship they are lying to consumers on reasons to buy their consoles.
Take for example, The Last Guardian. It was promised as a PS3 game and the E3 Sony was declared the winner of E3 because of...
Last time I checked sales of multiplayer twitch-fest shooters are just as strong on PS4 as XB1. You may want to do some research if you are going to make claims without numbers to back them up.
Black ops 3 sold 13.87 million on PS4 in the past year. 7.17 on Xbox One. You can argue that PS4 has 20 million more users (almost double X1), but when you do proportional numbers the percentages are pretty close. The gap would be less then 10 percentage points.
@Yo Mama
Fundamentally, your post lacks any logic.
1) Slims are often released throughout gaming cycles. Their purpose is more to cut costs then they are to provide new functionality.
2) I don't see the X1 slim as an upgrade as much as it is making use of the hardware that X1's hook up to. Now people can play 4K blu-rays and take advantage of HDR if they have it.
3) PS is coming out with Neo not XB.
4) If there is no sense in a ...
More RTS games are good!
I don't know what everyone was expecting. All trailers and demos of the game were accurate. It is gamers that made it into something it never was.
I don't know how someone rates the new PS4 slim 9/10.
First, I think the original PS4 looks much better (I know this is subjective) but I think the original PS4 design was really awesome.
Second, Sony is the owner and developer of Blu-ray but is not updating the drive in the new slim for 4K playback. 4K Blu-ray seems to be getting a big push this holiday. I went to Costco yesterday and magically there were a bunch of 4K versions of major blu-rays. ...
1) Please find articles and quotes where Microsoft is initiating the conversation about cross play and therefore being hypocrites.
2) Microsoft's gaming business is under new management and since then has made many good decisions to enable gamers to do more of what they want to do
3) This just goes to show that gamers should try not to let one company dominate. Whoever dominates starts to act cocky and not in the best interest of gamers.
It doesn't do 5 GHz today?
Ouch!
I don't believe that games should be automatically more expensive.
But, I do understand that different games have more upfront and ongoing costs to the developers and publishers so there should be a price range on games.
Cost of development, re-mastering, campaign/story length, multiplayer, and re-playability should go into the price. I am fine with the price ranging from $5 - $100 USD depending on the value proposition the game has. But, the curren...
Agreed. The Gears formula is plenty good as it is.
It is a solid third person cover shooter game, with a lot of different type and very unique weapons.
I'm just really glad to see a new story campaign and a truly next gen Gears! Gears and Uncharted set the bar last generation for innovation.
I am fine as long as the standard minimum is 1080p or 4K and 30 FPS.
I love 60 FPS but, it is not a must in a game that has a massive level of detail with more complex gameplay.
I also want 4K games, but am willing to accept 1080p if the game is very complex and can't do 4K.
Maybe they are doing things right. Rather then having two years of trailers trying to sell the game and falling short with expectations because things like graphical fidelity, framerates, and gameplay are not yet finalized, they are waiting until the game is near complete.
What a novel concept showing a near complete game near the shipping date so people see and feel what they actually will be buying. Not some game we have seen from anywhere from 3-8 years of trailers an...
The Xbox wireless standard is low latency compared to Bluetooth. This is important for gaming.
And frankly, how many truly wide-use wireless standards are there for computer accessories in new devices today? Bluetooth? Wifi Direct?
I get concerned with over hyping new IP games before their release. Whether it be Quantum Break, No Man's Sky, The Order, Scalebound, Horizon, etc.
Gamers need to learn that seeing games before playing them is a much different experience. I am excited about Sea of Thieves, but it will only turn into actual excitement when the game ships and I have a chance to play it for myself. The title of this article should've just been "Checkout 20 Minutes of Raw Gamepl...
That is the problem now-a-days. Games are announced years before they ship and then with all the careful trailers over the two or three year period hype the game thru the roof changing expectations.
Then, if the game doesn't fully meet everyone's expectations it is considered a failure.
I really like when companies tell us what is coming out within 6 months and then they deliver it. I hate years of hype. It is unfair to the game and gamers.
Having strong competition is good for console owners!
Now, fans are advertising the latest deals on hardware as "News"....
Please, can we talk about games?
