Unfortunately, gamers are not buying enough single play AAA games so the IPs are disappearing quickly and third parties are focusing more and more effort on multi-player games.

It is sad really. Games as art is the single player campaign experience. It is sad that the art is dying outside of first party studios.

Yup, so Microsoft's bad behavior means Sony is justified in bad behavior as well.

Two wrongs don't make a right. And I agree that both need to change. Neither behavior is good for gamers.

They probably learned a ton and that is why they are working with the hardware vendors.

There have been many times in the history of computing where software solutions are tried, but they find out software can only do so much so you have to start working with the hardware vendors to fully achieve your goals.

A perfect example is graphics cards. They put all the graphics functions into software at first and just used CPUs to do graphics. Then, they found...

I prefer to have my games locally...

But, you need to think about whether this is a temporary issue or something that will always be there. In the 1990's web sites were mostly text because pictures took too much bandwidth to display. Audio and video was completely unheard of. Then, in the early 2000's the internet was fast enough that audio streaming became more and more. In the 2010's Streaming video has become a norm. And next application and game strea...

I like how gamers are focused on a few of the bad reviews rather than the many positive reviews so far.

I get it, the story isn't the greatest. But, I will be Tomb Raiding for the next few weeks because everything else is mostly AAA.

I don't know how a game like Tomb Raider even if it just does exactly what the previous one did would get a 6/10.

Outside of PlayStation exclusives I don't think there is an action-adventure game any better than Tomb Raider. Please enlighten me if there are. Because I have over 2,500 games between my PS4 Pro and XOX and I don't see anything that really compares in the genre outside of Horizon Zero Dawn, Uncharted, and The Last of Us.

I am not going to say this is the right program because I did the math and just like other rental things you over pay over time. But....

There are a lot of gamers who don't buy the consoles in the first couple years of a generation because they are too expensive to buy straight out. They wait three years and save their money. This may entice those types of gamers to buy the console on day one. Really, I think it will be dependent on "Must have" games. It l...

@Retroman.

I keep all my electronic clean inside and out.

I just find the PS4 Pro goes crazy on the fan all the time pretty much whereas the XOX fan is pretty quiet most always. Does not seem to have anything to do with work load. Like I said, merely downloading causing my PS4 Pro to get noisy.

I think the XOX was a necessary upgrade of the X1 console.

There are games where it is simply amazing. Forzas come to top of my mind and pretty much every new AAA release in the past year.

But, should everyone go out and get a XOX? Probably not. Within two years we will see the next console and I would probably wait if I had not already got one.

One interesting thing I noticed last night between PS4 Pro and XOX... I have them both ...

A typical Insomniac game. They always create great games.

Ya, I avoid early access games, but it gives gamers choice. It is not my thing, but I know lots of gamers that jump on early access.

Pre-PS3 I loved God of War on both PS2 and Vita.

On the PS3 God of War was good but not great. So I had low expectations for this one.

Now, I am back to loving God of War again. Thank you for fixing the series Sony!

Yup, and that makes Sony's lack of cross play justifiable. Because MS is bad Sony is allowed to be bad too.

Last generation a lot of XB fans justified MS behaviours by saying that Sony were bad first... An overly expensive console with no great games to start the generation and difficult to program the cell processor. Then, as the generation progressed it switched as MS got arrogant on Kinect and other things including cross play. This continued into this generation...

@UltraNova
You are talking Apples (literally) to Oranges. You are talking about OSes and this is about game crossplay.

There are a ton of games on iOS that are crossplay with other devices. Including Fortnite for iOS ironically!

Well said, I call this generation the recycle generation. We have seen a ton of remasters, ultimate editions, definitive editions, etc. And people talk about Indie innovation, but most of their games are remasters from PC to console. Not saying there hasn't been anything new or good, but compared to last gen... This gen is second rate.

Powerful consoles but not powerful enough to really make the games stand out and away from last gen.

@jbull
Tomb Raider sales have fallen since Uncharted entered the space. Underwolrd was a dramatic failure because it wasn't nearly as good as Uncharted. True the first Tomb Raiders had better puzzles and stronger story elements, but the modern Tomb Raiders post Underworld improved gameplay dramatically to catch up to Uncharted in many ways. The story is still decent although not as strong. And puzzle solving improved in the last game, and I hope improves again in this one. ...

Yup, companies that fall behind do things to catch up, company's that are ahead do the same things that got them ahead.

That is not desperation. That is company's competing and that is good for gamers. With the first XB, MS failed to get good market share. With 360 they had solid market share and Sony were playing catch up to XB Live and the games for the first two to three years of the generation. One could call that desperation. Sony made massive changes to ge...

I had a lot of fun with almost all the Tomb Raider games. The last two and hopefully this one included.

I would see that as true if it was coming out with The Last of Us II or another Uncharted, but this comparison isn't really apples to apples,

EA doesn't come close to saying the same thing. They talk about ways to monetize and shareholder value.

I do agree that Microsoft has a checkered history in gaming and they need to clean up their act. I think that has been happening over the past few years since Phil took over. They spent about 8 years not taking the right approach (up to 2015-ish). You can't fix that in 3 years but I see a good path at this point.

Phil hasn't been saying ...
