For most it will be. At least, once they play the game that is. I can't believe people are doubting Heavy Rain's potential. There will be dozens upon dozens of perfect scores for Heavy Rain, just as there was for Mass Effect 2 and Uncharted 2 before it. All three are treading new ground and should be regarded as such. This is what the industry needs, and what gamers have been asking for since the first text adventures. Congratulations, Quantic Dream, you deserve it!

Holy $hit, I'm like literally freaking out here. This is my little megaton. <3

If I remember correctly, it can be finished in eight hours, but the average play time is ten. While to me this is the perfect length, for others it may be a bit short. However, where the appeal of the game comes in is how you decide to interact with the characters and events within. Every choice has a consequence, which can be drastic in some cases. The replay value will be relatively high as there are many different outcomes to the decisions you make, which is perfect for a game of this cali...

We're currently awaiting confirmation for the perfect score from PlayStation: the Offical Magazine (a Future publication). They hint at it with the cover of their latest via a tweet made by the Editor-in-Chief. That and BioShock 2. Also, there are at least two reviewers from GameSpot who put Heavy Rain as either the game they want to review the most or second most (I think there might have even been a third). Probably the two that have been doing the previews and impressions. I don't think pe...

I honestly don't think the reviews will be that different. Just look at Indigo Prophecy. For all it got right, IP is hardly an outstanding game, but if you look at the Metacritic or GameRankings, they suggest something completely different. IP was awesome during the first five hours, but the game fell apart in the final three... tragically. If I had to guess, the average would probably be a 93, + or - 1.

I expect largely 9+ scores based on the impressions I read from the likes of...

I agree for the most part. From the "gamers" perspective, David Cage sounds cuckoo. He loves to state how Heavy Rain is nothing like a video game, and then the next segment you see is a level full of button prompts. lol However, if you think about it, what he says is true.

Games imply competition, which was never the case in previous generations. Games had a much broader appeal. Games are in essence something you can interact with to achieve a goal. This goal can be per...

Hype machine started a long time ago. Just don't go overboard. ;)

Just curious. How many of you believe this will be a GotY contender and secure some nominations? I've always thought so, but apparently other communities like GameTrailers believe the game will score in the mid 80% range, which I highly doubt. Opinions? Not that it matters. Just a fun little game.

It's not a big deal. Games continue to evolve. He's just a step ahead of 'em. Future games will come to be known as Interactive Experiences, which, in my opinion, describes the medium rather aptly. I'm surprised to see this score higher than their review of Mass Effect 2 quite honestly. Not that I mind. Far from it, I'm overjoyed. Nice to see the media taking a liking to this game. Granted they are two different writers, but still. The PC version of ME2 didn't score that high either (88%). Ma...

I'm just going to guess for the sake of it.

2010 GotY Nominees:

Dead Space 2 (in place of TLG if it doesn't come out)
God of War III
Heavy Rain
The Last Guardian (if it comes out this year)
Mass Effect 2
Splinter Cell: Conviction

Other games that have a strong chance: Alan Wake, Bayonetta, BioShock 2, Dante's Inferno, Medal of Honor, Resistance 3 (if they improve on both predecessors tremendously), and Super Mario Galaxy 2

Well, GameKult gave ME2 a 7, and there have been a lot of sites rating the game around 9/10 lately. The average may go down a bit (read 94-95), but I doubt it will go any lower. Still, that is an impossibly high score! Hats off to Bioware on a job well done. Mass Effect 2 will surely be one of the greatest, in my mind at least.

Meh, to each their own, but still... Really? I'm left speechless. Kind of like GameReactor's reviews for Uncharted 2.

uh... I hope so. BioShock was a great game, and yes I have the PS3 version. I'll probably pick the second one up for the PS3 too for collections sake. I enjoyed BioShock at least. I'm not for sure if I'll be able to pick it up day one. It will be an extremely hard choice between that and Dante's Inferno.

You can have whatever opinion you want. Just make sure you at least try the game. Don't let your biases blind you. That's all I meant to say. Journalists have actually played the game. Therefore, they have a right to say what they think. That is why I hardly disagree with their scores. I may or may not share the same opinion, but, unlike others, they at least played the game. I don't care if they think it's a system seller. The point is they played it. Let's not jump to conclusions.

Anybody who has actually played Bayonetta would know it deserved every score it got. It's ridiculous to think that just because the developers did a terrible job porting it to the PlayStation 3 that fans on N4G have to hate it. It is an amazing game, and comes highly recommended. It's essentially a satire, poking fun at various video game cliches with style. Sure, the story was relatively undeveloped, but the writing was top notch (and the graphics will certainly amaze!). Extremely underrated...

I'm past the breaking point. I couldn't possibly be any more excited for this game. The first one may have had its fair share of issues, but, overall, Mass Effect was an achievement. Similar on scale to Uncharted. These scores make me rest easy knowing how often I've compared the two. I view these franchises as the pinnacle of game design. If you can bear with the technical issues, the original Mass Effect will impress beyond belief. Narrative design for the win!

Sorry, can't help it. I didn't mean for my post to sound like it was generating hype. I think that in part has to do with the ability for others to disagree and agree with a statement, making it seem like a more political. I get what you're saying, and didn't mean it to come across like that. Believe me. Heavy Rain could fail miserably still and be one of the worst games of the year. There's no way to know. I haven't played it, and doubt N4G has either.

I'm just excited for the c...

Most people who have played it consider it to be more than an Adventure game. From the looks of it, and based on past Adventure games I've played, they're not that alike. Heavy Rain is more an Interactive Experience. Similar to the games I listed above, but more so. There has already been talks within the media as to classify Heavy Rain as a new genre. It has similar features to Indigo Prophecy... in a way. However, it advances these concepts unto an entirely new level. The potential for inte...

Makes sense. Fair enough. More power to you. However, I'd advise reading some of the hands on impressions from GameSpot and 1UP. Quantic Dream released the first eleven chapters to the gaming media back in December. Unfortunately, most of these describe events in astonishing detail. Otherwise, it'd be kind of hard to explain what the game is like. Here's a couple quick quotes I found in the articles summarizing their opinions, however. No spoilers, I promise. ;)

No offense to Heavy Rain, but I'll pass on the demo. I'd much rather wait and receive the full experience come February 23rd. However, I'd hope that anybody still on the fence would give this a shot. Heavy Rain is set to revolutionize the game industry. Theoretically, a new genre will be born, changing the face of game design forever. Both writing and gameplay will merge into a single narrative experience. Much akin to games like Uncharted 2, Mass Effect, and Alan Wake. My sole wish is that y...

Regardless, I do believe they are adding the Taxidermist scene into the game. Can't remember if it's DLC or not. Maybe DLC on the disc. lol Just kidding. I'm pretty sure they will add it. A lot of fans, including me, have demanded they add the level as a bonus or extra content of some sort. Now look. Quantic Dream listens to their fans. They'll fit it in with the story somehow, I'm sure.
