Facebook said pretty much that in a call to investors. They've little interest in the actual hardware and plan to raise revenue through selling digital goods and advertising.
I don't have a gaming PC so my first experience gaming at 60fps was Tomb Raider Definitive Edition on PS4. I have now seen the benefit of more frequent frames and did enjoy the reduction in blur when moving the camera. With that said, I understand there is a trade off between visual fidelity and frames per second but I do wish we could have both this gen. I don't think it will or should necessarily become an industry standard though. Perhaps with more time Sucker Punch could have gott...
I'm really interested to see what MS announce.
They've had a terrible launch, particularly outside of NA, they're hanging on in their home territory though. Too early to say if Titanfall was the system seller they were hoping for, initial numbers suggest not. The only option they have left is exclusives.
I won't be bothered if I'm wrong but I don't think VR will go mainstream any time soon. A big hurdle for 3D movies and 3D TV in particular was having to wear glasses, a lot of people hated that. I just can't see the VR market becoming more than niche because I don't think people will want to strap a whole screen to their face. Maybe the immersion is worth it, will have have to overcome the comfort of a couch and TV to go mainstream though.
In my opinion last generations sales numbers are an outlier. My mother bought a Wii, my grandmother bought a Wii, my mother-in-law bought a Wii, just about everyone I know that is not a "gamer" bought a Wii. I'd be surprised if they bought more than two or three games in the entire generation, which does nothing for the gaming market, but they sure did inflate the size of the console install base. The market isn't shrinking, it's just that less "non-gamers" are...
I'm in.
Good to know, thanks.
I don't think I do feel the same. I certainly want more pretty but I'm not expecting much more.
Did games really change that much when PS3/X360 superseded the PS2/XBOX apart from getting prettier?
Open world games got bigger but that's not really a revolution, I'm sure the same will happen this generation.
Multiplayer was a significant change but when you think about it multiplayer is just an extension of split screen modes. ...
I couldn't agree more. I liked the first two games enough to finish them but didn't love them enough to keep them.
Based on the Eurogamer preview I don't think this'll be the one for me. I'll still get it for sure. Given that it looks absolutely gorgeous and that Troy Baker is an excellent voice actor I'm expecting to like it more than the previous two games, I won't be surprised if I don't love it though.
I've never experienced the loss of connection you describe on either the PS3 or PS4 or heard of the issue before. Are you sure your controller isn't faulty? Does it happen in other games or just COD?
I can only compare the PS4 controller to the PS3 controller but regardless I really like the Dualshock 4. I feel that precision is much much better. I disliked first person shooters on the PS3 because I thought I couldn't aim, getting a headshot was just lucky and ce...
Exactly, but the problem is when games essentially force you to throw more money into a game we paid full retail for when we didn't have to in the past.
Assassin's Creed IV multiplayer is an example of that happening. The designers have increased the grind to get new costumes etc. to the point where it's virtually impossible without throwing more money into there game. To unlock one of the top elite costumes for one of the characters will now take around 180 hour...
I used to think the same thing but after playing a couple of PS4 games at 60fps I actually do care. The thing I like most about 60fps is that when I move the camera the picture doesn't go blurry. I can pan over a scene and comfortably take in the atmosphere, adds a lot to gaming for me.
30fps won't stop me from buying The Order 1886 but I know I'll be wishing it was 60fps.
I owned it on PS3 and I bought it for PS4. I was a little worried that it was a waste of money but gladly I'm not at all disappointed, it's one one my favourites too.
If they did a definitive version like Tomb Raider I'd buy it in a heartbeat!
What I find odd is that many people disliked 3D TV because you had to wear glasses yet there is a lot of excitement about strapping a 3D display to your face. I too cannot see VR going mainstream anytime soon.
I'd say Ulf is right. I don't really follow VR tech at all but I'm always interested in new hardware from Sony, when I was reading this article I thought it was very strange of Sony to make an announcement this way. Thanks for the clarification.
I agree. I also think that if Titanfall were on PS4 it would definitely outsell Infamous.
As a console gamer I haven't been able to play many games at 1080p60 and honestly I thought 60fps would not make a difference to me but I was very wrong. I like to enjoy a good vista and TR has plenty of them. On 30fps games I'd have to pan the camera annoyingly slow or else everything would get blurry, with 60fps I can move the camera much quicker before this happens. I'm enjoying the game a lot more because I'm looking around a lot more. Where I'd normally have to move t...
Whenever a company is paying someone to talk about a game there is a potential conflict of interest. Even if EA (for example) did not ask contractors to speak positively about a game most will feel obliged to do so or will do so because they want to be paid for their service in the future. Sponsors need to be disclosed at the beginning if a video or at least in the video description so that the public are aware of any potential conflicts of interest.
Facebook already said planned revenue from occulus will come from adds and microtransactions.
