@lastdual
Well, Squenix seems to be terrible at making anything other than handhelds right now. The reason is simple: they are trying to cater to the western market. Wada has said so many times.
As for the Dragon Quest series, there have only been two from Squenix. 8, by far the superior of the two (although 9 is very good, but again, a handheld game), wasn't even made by Squenix. It was outsorced to Level5, and we know they can make good games.
Well, if it's coming early next year, I would say it better come out before The Old Republic (or at least not around the same time), because that will be by far the biggest MMO release next year. Not necessarily saying the best (it does look really good though), as I'm really looking forward to GW2 as well, but thankfully there should be enough time between releases to try them both out.
The only SRPGs that I have enjoyed to the level of FFT are Dragon Force (Sega Saturn), Shining Force 1 and 2 (3 was good, but nowhere close to the first two), and Valkyria Chronicles.
Those are the only SRPGs that I consider worthy of being close to FFT (still think FFT is the best though).
Disgaea is fun for what it is, but the storyline is just for fun, and is negligible to the point of the game. I like the series, but that is more about liking big numbe...
@VileAndVicious
Did you ever play FF6? In terms of story, I think it's the best the FF series has to offer. Even better than FFT.
For best story though, I have to go with Xenogears, which is another Squaresoft masterpiece around the same time frame of releases (Squaresoft used to be able to do no wrong...although I guess there's no such company anymore).
FFT is one of my top 5 games of all time (#3 or 4...behind Xenogears, FF6 and hard to place before or after Zelda A Link to the Past).
I didn't even like the Advanced games, much less even close to the original. The PSP port was pretty well done though.
I would love a remake for the ps3, or maybe an entirely new, dark story version for the ps3. Sadly, being how far Squaresoft (Squenix) has fallen in quality since FFT release, they would almost assuredly...
Are you crazy? Have you not heard? Pachter said there wouldn't be another console cycle. Who are you gonna believe? Your own common sense (along with everyone else) or the great guru of our time (5% of the time, he's right every time).
I know a lot of people seem to want to conveniently forget about Super Mario Galaxy 2, but judging the tone of most of the reviews (not to mention it IS a great game), it has the best chance of getting the most GotY awards, especially now that LBP2 was pushed back to 2011.
GoW3, ME2, RDR, GT5, Halo: Reach, Starcraft 2 and SMG2 are the top GotY candidates.
Yeah, and I actually prefer that style for a game that wants to tell a good storyline. Open world is nice sometimes, but I am not in the boat where people are talking about the ps4 and such being able to make all games open world. I would probably quit gaming at that point.
Anyway, I like everything I've seen on Arkham City so far.
@darkcharizard
IGN reviews aren't that bad, and sometimes really good. The score is also fairly consistent to what ends up being the general consensus about a game.
However, IGN suffers from ridiculously bad editorials and opinion pieces which often times (very often) make them look stupid, biased, ignorant, immature or out of touch.
They should stick to reviews and strict news reporting, like they used to, and they could gain a lot of c...
Vanille was more on the "cute" side than "sexy."
Also, she was very annoying for about half the game because she was always ridiculously excited, but later on she wasn't that bad (when she got more serious). Hope was the VA I couldn't stand throughout the whole game.
Really loved the first one as well. One of my only real gripes was the horrid animations in the first one, which seems to be vastly superior this time around. Can't wait for this game.
Yeah, this really does look awesome. Can't wait to learn the story. Also, I love the art direction, as I did with Bioshock.
Should also note that the Deal of the Day is Heavy Rain for $39.99. People should jump on this if you don't have it already. Great game, and this is the first time I've seen it at a discount since it's release (could be wrong on that one).
Thing is, for Famitsu, 8/8/8/7 means the game IS terrible. =P
j/k, but they tend to overrate games all the time (with the occasional underrate).
Can't wait for that Hot Shots! Golf Move game. By far the most fun golf series, in my opinion, and probably my favorite sports series of any type.
@Agent-86
"Yikes a lot of disagrees on my post #1. Is that because you don't like satire or didn't find it funny? Or, did you just see the provocative title and are disagreeing without actually reading the article?"
Would you believe it's because the analytical mind of an agitated audience was deceived into believing there was a predetermined lean towards disproportional bias?
No?
How about because your ...
Isn't Itazuma Eleven a soccer-RPG? When you say west, I would guess you mean Europe? =P Can't imagine a game like that doing any type of sales in NA. Oh well, not that I'm complaining. I won't buy it, but if anyone is looking forward to it, I hope they get it.
I never really had any doubts after they first announced the ps3 version of Ni no Kuni that it would come west. It's a big game, and Studio Ghibli is fairly big even in NA (and yeah, the new stu...
Of course, I don't want to speculate, but this doesn't seem like the type of game that should be hard to localize for the US. I mean, there is probably little to no dialogue, and not a whole lot of text either. A worldwide release date seems very plausible.
Really though, this is the type of game you could probably easily get by with even if it were all Japanese, making it a prime example of a game to import (region free blu-ray ftw).
Well, to be fair, SotN is better than 99+% of games ever made. ;) I always had a soft spot for the first one and Simon's Quest, as well.
While I really want to see other levels as well, I hope they don't over-reveal the game. The first one (awesome game, just to point out) showed way too much footage when it got close to release. Almost to the point where there were very few surprises, in terms of graphical locations. I'm almost hoping they don't show any other areas outside of pictures. (Of course, the other part of my brain is hoping to hell they show it all...but I try and ignore that part.)
