It's possible they will actually get a lot of subscriptions out of this. The game is actually fun till you hit level 50, then it's as if you run into an invisible wall of boredom. Can't say I've ever played an MMO to max level and went from having fun to being completely bored that quickly. The end game content is just not good. There is stuff there (although the VAST majority is just the expert dungeons, so stuff you've probably already done while leveling), but it...

After seeing what Sony offers, other companies > "Wah, wah!!" .... BABALITY!

*I'm not a fanboy or anything, so excuse this concept, it's just a joke ;) *

Funcom said they were gonna do something similar before they released Anarchy Online. It's been a while, so I don't remember exactly, but it was supposed to be some type of 5 year plan, where new, major stuff would happen to the world over time. It never panned out to anything. So this from them has little meaning.

Also, Lord of the Rings Online, World of Warcraft, Warhammer Online and Age of Conan all have enough back story to have 20 years worth of content, but t...

Have you played Persona 4? Eternal Sonata is a pong game in comparison for purposes of "involvement." Also, Eternal Sonata, by JRPG standards, is fairly short, it's also very easy. The main strength of the game is atmosphere, and, of course, music. I wouldn't say depth is a huge strength in the game, and isn't meant to be, as the game is very casual and light-hearted. I don't want to talk bad about the game, because I really enjoyed ...

VC sold pretty well over time, but considering it's the best RPG released this generation (if you don't include Persona 4), I still say it didn't sell enough. ;) Although, I will concede that it probably doesn't need to be on the list.

Completely agree about Eternal Sonata. Great game, but his remarks concerning the FF and DQ series are a bit preposterous.

I did notice something about the list though. It seems fairly apparent that the guy ...

While I agree there are parts of Eternal Sonata that were better than FFXIII, I wouldn't come close to saying it was "way better." FFXIII had many problems, but it was NOT a bad game like so many people on the bandwagon claim, it was just poor if you compare it to some of the masterpieces in the genre from before. (by the way, the linearity that FFXIII gets knocked for, Eternal Sonata isn't exactly open world itself)

The main part of the author's point ...

Yeah, I'm not really sure it's MediEvil either. For one, I don't think it's a multi-million seller (although I couldn't find any actual data one way or the other). Second, while I loved the games, they wouldn't be considered "AAA" by most sites (think it was getting 80-85 scores). Lastly, I would hardly consider MediEvil a "huge franchise."

For everyone hoping it is a new MediEvil game, I just don't think it's worth getti...

No offense meant, but I can barely understand what you are typing, so maybe I'm misunderstanding part of your context.

I never said FFVII was one of the best, but it was one of the first impressive (for the time especially) CGI intros, and CGI and anime intros came around the same time, unless you count crappy stuff like what the Ys series tried, which I wouldn't qualify as anime.

Again, I never gave an opinion one way or the other about RE2 or FFVIII...

While I don't completely agree with the list either, I fail to see how he is a "new gamer" simply because you don't agree. FFVIII, RE2 and Silent Hill are older than any game you mentioned.

Honestly, I'm not surprised to see a lot of newer games. This list isn't saying those games are the top 10 games of all time, just the best intros. It's not hard to believe newer games would be able to have a more cinematic opening to draw you in. Before F...

The only RPGs released this generation (not counting Persona 4, which was released during this generation on an older system) that I would consider worthy of being with previous generation RPGs are Mass Effect 1 and 2 and Valkyria Chronicles.

That's not to say the games you mentioned are good/great, but they won't stand out in 10 years. Mass Effect series will. VC may not (in the US), sadly, but that doesn't mean it doesn't deserve it.

The Xenosaga games were ok, but definitely nowhere close to a top 10 (although some on this list don't deserve to be there either), especially if you compare them to Xenogears.

Overall, it's a pretty unique list. However, Arcanum, Strange Journey and Pokemon (the first one, anyway) wouldn't even be in my top 50, not even close.

Also, it's pretty strange to see FFIV on the list, and his apparent love of steampunk games, yet he leaves off FFVI ...

Well, either way, if he's dead, he's shown in GoW2 he can claw his way out of anywhere (hell). The big difference though is that he has little left to do, in terms of vengeance.

I would hope they would start a new franchise in the same vein as GoW, but a different mythology possibly. The only problem is that Kratos is such a Playstation icon now, they wouldn't want to abandon it when they know there is still money to be made from him. Maybe something like an al...

The psp2 was announced about 24 hours ago... I would say the 3DS had better have more hype at this point, or Nintendo would be in real trouble.

Obviously it could be out the window now, but they stated a while (long while now) back that the game would get a worldwide release date. Hopefully that will still hold true, and hopefully by the end of this year.

Anyway, glad to see they have been working, because the game looks great in graphics, intensity and size. Also, the gameplay looks to be incredibly varied, which is a nice touch (as long as it all works well).

I thought landing the Mako and searching for the stuff in ME1 was far worse. However, those are two of the only things I didn't like in both games (any other quibble is very small).

If they want to put in some type of mini-game or extra exploring to gather resources for some side-quest/achievements/credit s, they really should try and make it actually fun.

Can't say I completely agree with ME3 getting GotY over UC3 and LBP2, but it's a great choice. ME1-2 are amazing games, so no reason to think the 3rd one won't be.

Only thing I'm not sure about is Rage. I think some people have far too much faith in it simply because of the developer. So far the game looks pretty, but a tad stale (as in, not much going on). I'm sure it will be good, but from what we've seen(I've seen, at least), KZ3 just looks ...

You forgot:

Best Action-Strategy-RPG-Platformer -Shooter-et al - LBP2. ;)

LBP2 will definitely be in the running. I'm kind of curious how sites will classify it. Unlike LBP1, it cannot be put in the Platformer genre.

I agree for the most part with your other choices.

I would probably put ME3 in the best RPG list, though, along with The Witcher 2. I have a feeling the new Elder Scrolls will disappoint...afterall, imo, t...

@Jimmy

Hope they are made of leather so you can get some nourishment. MW3 will be a contender, whether it deserves it or not (99% chance it won't deserve it).

Also, KZ2 and Crysis have the same metacritic score, unless you meant a specific site.

Selling at a loss on hardware is not stupid. If you sell for too much of a loss, sure, but a small loss is not bad if you have the software to back it up. A company like Sony (SCE) with a huge amount of 1st party studios can aim for software sales being their big profit over hardware (in their videogame division, of course...I realize they are a hardware company as a whole).

Well, on a 4.3" screen (that's the PSP1 size anyway), you wouldn't need something such as a 720p resolution (UC3 rez) to make it look as good as you would on a 50" screen. It would probably only need to be at about half the resolution for the same effect (or even less), so if it's even in the same ballpark of power as the ps3 (which was developed about 5 years ago), I don't see it as being completely impossible to produce a game that is at least close to UC3. Espec...
