I hear what you're saying about PSN's unique games. I just think that niche games are niche for a reason; they only appeal to a small number of users. All sales are desired, but, I don't know how to quantify the true value of European and Japanese sales against American Sales.
If you're a failure in America but a success in Euro/Japan, you most likely fail. If you're a success in the US and a failure in Euro/Japan how much does that actually matter? I think if you rule in the US you can dominate an industry. If you only rule in Euro/Japan, you cannot, though you can be very successful.

Xbox 360 "should" be hard to beat this Christmas with the price cut (which is the #1 issue with the mass of non-hardcore gaming consumers), Gears 2, and Left 4 Dead, plus XBLA Arcade just stomps all over PSN content and Netflix is also coming.
I do think Sony will keep it close enough being a Bluray with all the blockbusters coming out and Dark Knight around 12/16. Wipeout HD will help with a lot of players familiar with the game who haven't gone next-gen yet. LBP will ...

All I need in the 1st Half of '09 is Darksiders, RE5 and Wipeout HD (actually, I want this before Christmas). As long as they all support Trophies, I'll take the PS3 versions. Of course Wipeout is PS3 Exclusive.
I want D&D Rules RPG (turn-based even) on any platform.
The problem isn't that LBP isn't a great looking game, but how many online co-op, 1st/3rd person shooter fanatics are foaming at the mouth waiting to play LBP?
I think the author used historical reference and there is none for a game like LBP. It's a day one purchase for me based on innovation, quality, and the kids. But I don't know how long or how many total hours I'll spend playing it. I'm sure the kids won't be able to get enough of it though.
Don't forget about Fable II and Left 4 Dead. For 1stQ '09, Resident Evil coming to Xbox is pretty big. It'll be an even bigger deal if it ousells the PS3 version. But, for me, Wipeout HD should be out, all PS3 games should be supporting trophies, so unless there's a new quiet, Bluray 360 SKU, if it's not exclusive, I'm doin' PS3.
This is a pretty neat idea. They have to do something... PS3 has all the blockbusters movies coming out on Bluray.
I prefer by 52" LCD, 5.1 Master Audio, and Bluray first time. If I can hold out long enough. I'm actually managed to hold out on Dark Knight and Iron Man and will get both before Christmas. Though Dec. 16 is a long wait for Dark Knight. But, my home theatre has better video and audio than the theatre. My PS3 has made the theatre a chick-flick/makeout excursion.
Microsoft could eliminate this issue by opening up the Xbox to use any USB flash disk for game storage. 8G USB flash is dirth cheap, less than $30.
The real test will be from Nov 7th when Gears 2 is released. If Gears 2 + $199 core doesn't cause major movement (more than Gears 2 alone), then the price cut can be considered a failure.
Another wild-card is Left 4 Dead. I think this game is this year's sleeper. I can see groups of fence sitters buying in at $199 just for this multiplayer. It's definitely a gamble for MS. Could strike gold, could bust.

I own both. I guess I'm in the center. I vote for whoever lies less. That's means since Hillary didn't get the nomination, it will be almost impossible for me to vote Republican. 60% of everything they said at the convention was either a lie or gross exagerraton of fact. Their TV ads distort the truth so much, I just call them lies. Only the Clintons can out-lie the GOP, so they're out of luck.

Best it can do in my book is 8/10. A next-gen game without last-gen graphics has to lose 2 points off the top. And I haven't seen next-gen graphics any anything shown for Fable II yet. Gameplay is most important, but so are graphics. The better they are, the easier it is to become immersed in the game. This is especilly important for RPGs in my opinion.
1) Whoever wins gets the new games developed for it first. Maybe nowadays it's, whoever wins gets to be the lead development platform, or gets better DLC, or better performance. The point being, a gamer does have an interest in how well their chosen platform sells.
2) Why do you watch football when you're not a player? Since the Gladiator days, competitive events have always been an enjoyable spectator sport :)
