that putting roll-cages in all the cars isn't realistic.

Still, gives us some insight into why damage modeling in these games is so bad ... manufacturer restrictinos. Damage modeling isn't technically demanding. Some old PS2 and Xbox games that didn't use actual car models had great damage modeling.

Then the answer is obviously yes.

If best looking means most technically advanced in terms of shaders, polygons, textures, etc... then the developers of Killzone 2 and Uncharted 2 might have something to say about that. In terms of visual fidelity it's hard to imagine anything matching Uncharted 2 (even Uncharted 1 remains untouched in that regard) while Killzone 2, when the action gets crazy, is simply out of this world in terms of dynamic visuals.

Those three ga...

What matters isn't the specific title but how long the developers have had to figure out the hardware. The 360 has been out for 4 years and you can be damn sure that the developers of Forza were getting devkits long before launch.

PD has had one year less to figure out how the the PS3 works and let's not forget, the PS3's system architecture is a far more than the simpler laptop like UMA architecture of the 360. What's more the Cell is a completely new kind of processor.

This list is mostly wrong.

If you're making a list of best graphics, it's about graphics, not about including other consoles for fear of hurting people's feelings.

If your list is not about best graphics but best engines (ie., making best use of hardware) there are games on PS2, Wii and Gamecube that should be on that list.

So

1) Decide what your list is about
2) Stick to it and don't be influenced by outside pressure

Kutaragi always admired apple and wanted to sell a real premium product that would cost more than $500-$600. I wouldn't be surprised if he wanted to sell it at $1000. At that price it still would have been a good value if the Linux OS was preinstalled and filled with slick apps. He really envisioned a living room set that did it all. That long forgotten PS3 TV tuner was a part of that vision.

He wanted to be the apple of the console world. I think he got a little carried awa...

the PS3 will be on the market longer than the PS2. Maybe this is their way of signaling the end of the PS2 era, ie., they'll stop production to encourage consumers to spring for a PS3 instead.

As for the 360's sales curve, it's not fair to say that it's as bad as the original xbox. It's definitely doing better. If you compare the PS3, 360, and Xbox sales from launch date at the same age:

PS3: 23.4M
360: 20.6M
Xbox: 15.9M

You can see that t...

Microsoft is so predictable. Whenever Microsoft starts to worry they start playing dirty by bribing "news" outlets and planting "reports" in more conventional media sources. That's the culture of the company and it's why they have not progressed as a company.

Being a company obsessed with quarterly results they continue to rely on short term strategies that work initially but fail the test of time. As 360's market position continues to deteriorate you can e...

All those poor idiots who bought HD-DVD players must be kicking themselves.

Just like Dreamcast fanboys, the HD-DVD fanboys will continue to disparage Blu-Ray for the next ten years, blindly supporting any it's competitor in the hope that Blu-Ray will be defeated.

There are the only two consoles competing in this generation. The Wii is too far ahead and simply too different to be considered a competitor. Whatever it's rank (sure to be worse than the 360's) it's not relevant.

IGN took a bribe from microsoft to make the 360 look better than the 360 in this particular feature. They mask it in a pointless feature about the best consoles of all time and will probably rank at least one of the old Sony consoles ahead of the 360 just to appear f...

That kind of article is bound to generate a lot of criticism. Here's mine.

Video game graphics aren't just about screen shots. It's moving video in a dynamic and interactive medium.

Killzone 2 should have topped the list. It's the best in the market in so many different categories. Uncharted has the best textures and incredibly detailed character models while GT5's amazingly detailed cars and environments are bathed in such lighting that one could describe it as ...

They did the same thing during the Blu-Ray/HD-DVD wars. When Blu-Ray products was obviously winning Microsoft started handing out seller rebates to retailers so that they could lower the price of select items (including Toshiba hardware) to keep HD-DVD up there in sales and in the public's perception. Actually, a lot of companies do it but Microsoft has so much cash in the bank that they can afford to do it more than anyone else.

It's incredible how much money Microsoft is wi...

We know this because actual historical spending patterns demonstrate this. It was only when the lowest retail price of the 360 dropped to $200 did it begin to outsell the $400+ PS3. Prior to that the PS3's sales curve was way ahead of the 360s and in the last six months before 360 was dropped to $200, the PS3 was consistently outselling the 360 by 35%.

When the 360 dropped from $300 to $200, it's relative monthly sales volume nearly doubled. When the $200 price-point was intro...

Textures, animation, lighting, shadows, are all far below the expected standards for a PS3 game. There are even a few multiplatform games that exceed the technical performance of this game.

Having said that, the enemy designs are creative, and the game successfully creates an immersive atmosphere despite the technical short-comings.

Most importantly, it appears to be a game with an uncompromised vision ... a breath of fresh air in an era where games designed base...

but gameplay sounds uncompromised and hence I'm much more excited about this game than any other action game. God of War, COD, etc... I find boring. Based on Eurogamer's review this just sounds absolutely compelling.

Too bad about the visuals. The designs are creative and they've done well to craft an immersive atmosphere but perhaps we have to wait for the sequel for true PS3 quality graphics to match the gameplay.

Nearly every major innovation, including the internet is because of government grants (using tax payer money) which ends up as profit for a private company (money does not go back to the tax-payer).

Tax payers have been funding large companies since the country's inception. GM, Lockheed Martin, Raytheon, all became giants because of handouts from tax payers.

The idiots who talk about "small government" are people who are bad at math and can't understand ...

360 owners happily fork over $$$ for stuff (online play, wifi, etc...) that's 100% free on PS3 and Wii ... this is no different. As the old saying goes ... "if it ain't broke don't fix it."

Turn10 claims HDR (an 10x polygons, and 4x textures) but the images don't show it. The speculars are horrendous. White blobs with no gradients is hardly good specular lighting. Go check out a real car in real sunlight. GT5's graphics have some failings (it is a video game afterall) but it imitates real sunlight glinting off it's cars so well that it can appear to be real.

Not only is the specular lighting in Forza 3 bad, it's very limited in it's application. That's why th...

Wow, those 360 owners must be really gullible. Any browser enabled device can access these features free of charge 24 hours a day. Even the Wii has youtube and it's free as it should be.

MS really knows how to squeeze every extra penny from it's gullible customers.
