Very unlikely. The trouble is emulating the PS2's graphics synthesizer and it's massively multipass rendering. If they can emulate that on the Cell then expect PS3 graphics to improve even further since Cell would be able to add all kinds of alpha effects.

Theoretically anything is possible with clever enough programming but it's just unlikely.

that forza 2 looked better than GT5 Prologue. It's simply inevitable that the die hard fanboys of any consumer product will be blind to it's failings and that's true for all consoles.

Here however the visual difference is quite obvious. Just the Audi R8 shot alone should put to rest any notion of visual parity. The lighting and reflections on the GT5 Prologue Audi are simply in another class. Even the insides of the car are rendered to a much higher level. Then engine cover ...

GT5 is virtually photorealistic while Forza 3 does a great job within the limitations of the hardware. In the end, it's simply not even close.

It is true that GT5P does a great job simulating the transfer of "weight" but what amazed me was how it even simulated the way, for example, the driver of the F1 car bounced in his seat as the car went over bumps. Superb.

RR7: 1920x1080 = 2.1 Million pixels per frame

GT5P: 1280x1080 = 1.3 Million pixels per frame

Forza 3: 1280x720 = 0.9 Million pixels per frame

Where frame-rate is the same, detail is a function of the quality of raw assets and the number of pixels to which those assets are applied.

RR7 is pushing 50% more pixels than GT5P but the quality of the assets are so much lower that overall detail is actually lower as well.

Assuming that ...

(where the pixels are absolutely awash with complex shaders and shadows) I'll be impressed. As of now the in-game graphics of Forza 3 aren't particularly impressive. They still have many of the same reflection texture update issues not to mention the fact that those reflection textures themselves look pretty random rather than reflective of actual scener...

Doesn't look like the game they showed at E3. The billboard and sprite trees, the lack of detailed alpha effects, the specular maps, the shaders, etc... are all a throwback to Forza 2. The geometry of the cars is visibly better than Forza 2 (Forza 2 had horrid visuals) but thats about it.

The poor quality of the scenery is particularly shocking. It's filled with sprites and billboard trees! It's almost as if the took the environment rendering engine from Forza 1 on the origina...

Not bad but not great. Is that US only or international?

Lifetime sales (using standard model) should be around $20M barring something unusual happening. After publishers fee, retailer's cut, etc... they should still make a little money but maybe not enough to make Bionic Commando 2 happen. If they run a lean development operation and spend a bit more money on marketing then it might be worth a go.

until we see both games in action there's no way to know which will be a better overall game. Obviously GT5 looks better and has the potential for better physics and to be a better sim (due to the vastly more powerful CPU) but final judgement will have to wait.

Cnet articles are usually written by a bunch of idiots so I can't say I take the word of people who live by those articles too seriously. Having said that, Turn10 has a very long way to go if they want to back up their s...

Looks like a PS2 game with bump mapping. The textures are disastrous, the character models are blocky and the overall visual quality is simply not up to the level of other next-gen multiplats.

Very disappointing.

Gameplay looks fun, however, despite the last-gen looks. Then again, I can get God of War 2 for PS2 for about $20 with free shipping from Amazon.

This game is sure to be fun but there's no evidence that at $60 it succeeds in providing a true n...

its 720P stretched out to a larger size but with no actual increase in detail.

Super NES can be 1080P using an upscaler. It will still look like crap because the detail has not been increased, just the resolution size.

A game rendered in "native" 1080P actually has 1080P level of detail, which Forza 3 does not. It has 720P level of detail.

Here's are the numbers for three 60fps games:

RR7: 2.1M pixels/frame(100%)

360 has been maxed out for a while. Future improvements are all about managing art assets wisely.

Forza 2 and Gears 2 are a perfect examples. Technically, these are not doing all that much more than in the past, they are just doing it differently. They've refocused the engine to emphasize certain elements.

The cutbacks are especially noticable in Gears 2 (see Gamespot's gears 1 vs gears 2 screenshots) where they've visibly reduced environmental geometry to enable ...

It's been known for sometime now that the i7 is terribly overhyped and overpriced. It's also been known for a long time that for multimedia and gaming applications that the Cell processor would kill it. However, nothing runs Microsoft bloatware faster than an i7. It will run Microsoft Word so fast you'll be winning more pulitzer's than Oscar Wilde on heroin.
