and another to publish bull-shots, cgi videos, etc... to mask it's problems while claiming superiority over competing products.

If the retail Forza 3 has all the technical short-comings of the demo it will have been a serious case of over-promised and under-delivered.

don't equal game sales.

Mediocre games can be incredibly successful and world-class games can fail horribly.

but still rather like a UE3 game. Then again, that's probably what it's supposed to look like.

The scale of the environments and, more importantly, the possibility of a co-op campaign, looks promising. Looking forward to more information.

Look. Here's an example of how stupidly wrong the annotations are:

Where it points to the dark semi-circular area and says "more detailed self-shadow" it's actually pointing to a part of the car.

It's just embarrassingly wrong.

Also, just because Flanker22 says something is "low-res" in GT5 Prologue but "high-res" in Forza 3 doesnt mean it is. It's just fodder for desperate fanboys.

Reality, Forza 3's actual in...

Either flanker22 doesnt know what he's talking about or he's works for Turn10. Some pretty elementary "mistakes."

Shift looks amazing.

Forza 3 ... not so much. So much for "we dont do bull-shots!"

Biggest differences:

Modeling: Shift has smoother curves. Some interior parts that are modeled with 3D polygons in Shift are just painted 2D textures in Forza.
Textures: Shift has better textures
Shaders: Unlike Forza 3, Shift's interior doesnt look like it's all made from the same plastic

In forza 3's favor, having been spanked in ev...

Scratches appear where a vehicle was never hit. Or hit one side a bumper and the side that doesnt get hit gets bent the same way. In reality, nothing got bent.

It's just the same old geometry swapping tech from the PS2/Xbox/Gamecube days. No actual geometry deformation.

What's intriguing about GT5's damage system is that they are promising actual geometry deformation rather than Forza's old-fashioned geometry swapping.

If they can pull it off succes...

That's why out of absolutely nowhere there's suddenly a bunch of endorsements from everyone from developers to rock-stars.

Magazines are then paid to carry those marketing messages to make it look like actual news rather than a part of a coordinated marketing campaign. It's an old tactic and anyone who's been in business (or politics) can spot it instantly. It's a typically american approach, however, which is why you usually won't see sudden spikes in PS3 or Wii endorsements. ...

Microsoft definitely isn't broadening their audience by getting this guy involved.

Facebook and Twitter? Really? When 360 owners are forced to pay $50/yr to access those features?

PS3 and Wii have:

Facebook
Twitter
Youtube
Flickr
Postsecret
Craigslist
Gmail
Yahoo
MSN (ironically, 360 doesn't have it)
AOL
Engadget
Cnet
IGN
Gamespot
N4G
Topgear
Caranddriver
Motortrend
and tons more...

and unlike 360, it's all free!

Good analysis.

Microsoft's problem is that the organization is not conducive to putting out high quality consumer products. They do a pretty decent job on the server side and even most of their enterprise products are good enough, if not quite stellar, but they simply don't know how to make a good, high quality consumer product. Part of the reason is because, unlike enterprise solutions, the consumer market is very price-sensitive but the way that price-sensitivity manifests it...

Microsoft's been doing it so often lately I feel embarrassed for them.

They keep changing strategies. They keep bribing developers and the press. It's almost as if they're running for office!

Actually, it's not as different from politics as you might think. They all play the game, it's just that Microsoft plays dirtier than the rest.

There will be a few knee-jerk disagrees but history shows that in very market they've entered Microsoft has used the ex...

The difference in the quality between these replay images is all the more striking when one considers that not only is GT5 Prologue rendering twice as many cars and, even in exterior views, shading car interiors (Forza 3 just blacks out most of the interior parts), it's renders these...

L4D2 is a lot better looking than the original and is built on a much improved engine. The original was one of the worst looking games on the 360.

Not sure why you say L4D2 is worse than Gears 2. Gears has some pseudo-HDR effects that make it more eye-catching but that screen-shot of Gears 2 doesn't show any self-shadowing, a feature that L4D2 has and, in fact, many PS2 games and even a few Xbox games had.

Ouch.

Forza 3 looks a lot worse than I expected. Polygon count has been noticably lowered (too many polygon edges) and AA is surprisingly poor.

Everything still looks like plastic.

Perhaps they'll fine tune some things for the final game. Let's not forget that there can sometimes be some significant code changes between and release.

Having trouble reading? What you wrote has nothing to do with my comments. I never complained about overexposure when exiting a tunnel.

And no, cars should not shine brightly inside dark tunnels unless they've got glow in the dark paint.

And no, Forza 3 does not have HDR. It's running FP10 which is actually MDR.

To finally come to terms with the graphical failings in the video?

But instead of defending it, send them an email and point it out on their forums. Tell them that as a paying customer (they want $120 from you for 540 cars) you expect shadows that work properly and cars that don't glow in the dark.

Also ask them why they want to charge you $120 for a game with only 540 cars.

6104d ago 0 agree3 disagreeView comment

Now you're just blindly defending a faulty product and ignoring the biggest and most blatant flaw of the video., ie., that the cars light up like chrismas trees the moment they enter a dark tunnel. That's a huge graphical flaw in a game that supposed to be a realistic sim.

Again, it's all about expectations. Obviously, fans like you have low expectations and will blindly defend even the most obvious problems.

BTW, I just read that Halo ODST sold 2M just like that. ...
