I can understand the reasons behind it, I'm not saying they should out and out emulate Sony and Microsoft. It just occurs to me that Nintendo have thus far spent more time telling people what they don't plan to do over what they plan to do. And when you read behind the lines, to me it sounds like "we don't follow trends, we make them."
And you really have to get the basics down before you can break the rules. I sort of think that was the problem with the...
I keep reading about Nintendo high-ups saying they don't do certain things. "We don't pay for exclusives." "We don't force developers to add achievements." Not so long ago they were saying that they don't see why they'd focus on online services.
It's nice that they have their own identity, but there's a lot of things that PS3/360 owners take for granted and without those things they might not buy into a Wii U. You have to be fle...
Did those 4 paragraphs really take you five minutes to read?
This is bound to get lots of "lolwut?" comments, but I actually see what he means. A theme throughout the Metal Gear Solid games is that there's a lot going on around the character, but not directly involving them. Snake, Raiden and Big Boss all play a major role in events within the game, but they don't often take part in the story, instead reacting to it.
Which, of course, puts the player in the same position. The colonel is definitely holding something b...
You have to look at these things realistically. A flagship series like Resident Evil or Dead Space - franchises that could almost literally make or break the publisher if they completely bombed - are going to go for the widest possible audience. Resident Evil 5 was hugely popular, it sold millions of copies and Resident Evil 6 will do the same. The only reason I'll play it is because of co-op support.
The people on message boards who have always loved the series will comp...
There you go, that's part of the problem.
Who cares whether people aren't into it as much as you? Who cares if they're buying into games (or going to see films) that they don't fully understand? Sure, it's annoying to hear some kid going off like an expert when they have no real understanding or context for what they've seen, but it doesn't actually negatively impact on your life.
The opposite, in fact, because their money and thei...
It's difficult to make that call. We don't know how far VS13 is through development, we don't know how much more it would take to finish, we don't know how many sales Square reckon they'll get and we don't know how many they'd need to make good on their investments.
On the other hand, we can presume that for XIII-3 there's at least an amount of assets already complete, an engine available and complete, which means the game can be made to a dece...
It's easier for people to get excited for something, even to give a few dollars towards something, than it is for them to out and out buy into it. A lot of people are impressed at the idea of Ouya and it gives it a smidgen of potential, that's when it's in the news every second of every day and everybody is talking about it.
Give it a few weeks to die down and then most people probably won't hear about it again until launch and by that point there will be some...
@PersonMan
I was especially impressed by character models and textures on things like clothes. Generally there may be better games, especially when it comes to PC, but Metal Gear Solid 4 still stands up today, I think.
It's all subjective and it depends what sort of things you look for in an "attractive" game I suppose, but I'm still impressed today.
@PygmelionHunter
My point was that unlocking trophies and in-game content can work together better than individually. He posted it on here either to brag or to troll over "trophies are lame, lol." Keep in mind, this isn't an article about trophies, so why bring it up?
If he's bragging, yes he needs proof. If he's trolling, well, my point is that with trophies he'd have his proof.
As for your side note: people are for...
You know, ignoring the Xbox hate and all, I've recently been playing MGS4 again and it does look absolutely fantastic. Kojima and Co did an awesome job.
Yeah, but if you had the trophies to prove it, I'd be more willing to believe you.
Now you're just a guy on a message board potentially talking crap.
I found the comments on this article hilarious. It basically boiled down to "NO WAY, this guy is a jackass. I mean, I can understand the games I dislike dying, because they suck and I hate them, but the games I like? Jesus, it's like this guy doesn't get gaming at all."
Which is why there are multiple people saying Angry Birds, Call of Duty and Final Fantasy deserve to die despite the fact that they're all amongst the most successful franchises this gene...
More proof than confirmation from the creator of the series in THE major Japanese game magazine, reported on by a respected and well-known site?
Short of Kojima coming to your door and slapping you in the face with a press release, I'm not sure what to say.
I'm quite shocked that they didn't mention the fact that for the first portion of the game you commit two terrorist acts, the first of which kills innocent people.
I know SHINRA are the bad guys and Avalanche are the good guys, but that would seem like a major point to me if I was rating the game on its content.
Oh, repeated rape?
Well, that's just dandy then.
Did you just imply that Final Fantasy XIII was as bad as rape?
I'm going to go out on a limb and say that mommy didn't/doesn't hug you enough.
Actually, the vast majority of people agreed that Final Fantasy XIII-2 fixed almost all of the problems they'd had with the original.
I think it's fair to say a potential Final Fantasy XIII-3 would fix any remaining complaints and end the Final Fantasy XIII series on a high note.
The thing is, this isn't about you. It isn't about the two people that agreed with you either, or the countless people that would within the core crowd.
Developers are looking for ways to save money and control piracy and cloud gaming is perfect for that. As soon as internet connections and HD space catch up to the point where it's viable for the average person, there's no reason to keep releasing physical copies.
Sure, a few people will compl...
It doesn't matter whether you like FPS or RPG - your personal opinion doesn't come into it. Your professional opinion, the one where you have knowledge and depth of experience in each genre, is much more important.
When Hannah Montana The Movie came out, I reviewed the game. Would I choose to play it in my spare time? Of course not, but letting that cloud my judgement would make me a sucky writer. It wasn't made for me, so why would I complain about the fact that...
