Most the complaints I see are from people that haven't actually played the sequel. It's very frustrating.

Especially considering how good XIII-2 actually is.

But you're thinking of handheld vs console. Graphics are irrelevant, I just used it as an example of how quickly the handheld market is evolving. In 15 years time, even 10 years time, none of that is going to be an issue. If a handheld can do everything a console can, including plug into a TV, what's the point in having a dedicated console?

As an example: if the PlayStation Vita could play PS3 games and it could play via HDMI and with a Dualshock controller, PLUS game...

As I say, not next generation. That gives the handheld developers, whoever is working on that tech, well over 10 years to continue their work.

10 years ago we had the Gameboy Advance. Now we have the Vita. We can only presume a much bigger leap in the next 10 years. Saying that they're miles behind PC now is stating the obvious. Guessing what's coming in a decade is much, much harder.

Perhaps not after this generation, but it's inevitable really. For the first time ever, we're seeing graphics on handhelds rival that of home consoles. In ten years time there's no reason to believe that the same couldn't be said of all but the very latest PCs.

All that needs to happen is for somebody to develop a handheld that can be used as a console (via HDMI) without any real graphical problems, with a controller and with some real support from third part...

@Dasteru

As far as I can tell, the original article was part screw-up, part the author sticking in opinions on something they didn't fully understand.

But who knows? I was interested in the case at the time, especially considering how angry people seemed to be getting about it, but I didn't really follow it all that closely.

It was only when the suit was dropped and I contacted John that I got to know things a little more in-depth, an...

Except Beiswenger isn't suing over the technology in the novel, which is a common misconception relayed by poor research and poor articles.

He's suing because he believes, as somebody mentioned in a comment earlier, that Assassin's Creed II (and more recent examples, I believe) use things from the novel. For instance, the example he gave me was that the lab described in the book, released in 2003, is surprisingly similar to the lab presented in ACII.

Worth noting that since finishing my interview with John, I've been in contact with both him and his wife and they're both interesting, charming, eloquent people. Those who sent death threats over a potential delay (if Ubisoft were proven guilty of stealing material, by the way) in Assassin's Creed 3 should be ashamed of themselves.

I'd be shocked if nobody bought it. There's the option there and somebody with too much money and not enough patience will find themselves convincing themselves it's a good buy.

It also wouldn't surprise me if they got a refund as a "goodwill" "this was an experiment" sort of thing.

"I hate trophies because if trophies didn't exist every game would be a hundred hours long and have multiple unlockables. Trophies just give developers an excuse to release three hour games with no replayability."

Honestly, looking back even as far as the SNES/NES games there are titles there that would have really benefited from a system-wide achievement system. It's easy to talk crap about the most innocuous things (my favourite are the people who say trop...

I play for the experience AND the trophies. It's not an either/or thing, you can enjoy a game and enjoy it more thanks to trophy support.

Some detractors seem to think that developers are just like "we don't need to add any bonuses to this game because of trophies." No, there wouldn't be extras either way and, if a lazy developer could get away with it, no trophies either.

@Hicken

I think the problem was less that there wasn't trophies and more that SEGA never gave a firm word on whether a trophy patch was on its way. Konami did the same thing with Metal Gear Solid 4.

It got to the point where it was less "do I want to play this game without trophies?" and more "do I want to play this game again if trophies are implemented?"

It's pretty disgusting that this has got so many agrees. "I dislike the Call of Duty series so I hope thousands of people lose their jobs."

Yup.

I've seen a lot of people disappointed by this, and I agree to a certain extent. How can the exciting notion of this constant flow of information and communication within a console-wide system really work if it's being moderated?

But the more I think of it, the more I know that there's no other way of doing it. As soon as I saw that people could draw pictures of anything they want to post, I decided that it would be about three seconds until somebody uploaded thei...

But how many non-gamers own PS3 consoles and hardly use it for gaming? Microsoft have just announced that more people use their 360s for netflix and similar applications than for gaming now, which makes me think we're in the perfect environment for this sort of thing.

Do I think the Wonderbook jokes are going to stop amongst the core? No, but the Wii jokes didn't stop either and that was a runaway success.

At the price the Vita is, with a great launch line-up of software but limited view of anything fantastic on the horizon (if you don't count Call of Duty and Assassin's Creed) I think 2 million is a brilliant start to a new console.

Again, it's difficult for us to discuss the specifics because we don't know them. You're guessing that 2 million isn't great, personally I don't see how it isn't.

EDIT: As for the 9 million preorder...

Because it's not doing as badly as people think it is? Because as much as Sony keeps repeating that 2,000,000 sales is by no means a bad start, people keep ignoring that and believe forum dwellers instead?

The well-educated boffins at Sony have every piece of information pertaining to the financial state of the Vita - how much it costs to make, how much each console shipped/sold brings in and every other little piece of statistical information that we couldn't guess i...

You've proven DICE's point, actually. Uncharted, Assassin's Creed - they did so well because they came early in the console life cycle and managed to show off what they were capable of. LittleBigPlanet was a family game on a console without a wide array of decent family games. LA Noire, Red Dead, Rockstar titles always sell well because they've got the Rockstar logo on the front.

Dead Space is a game in a genre that has been supremely under represented in rece...

So you agree completely with me then?

If it didn't work on some level, they wouldn't do it. I can't believe I'm getting disagrees for saying that. Would I have gotten agrees if I'd said "actually companies do it for no reason, it costs lots of money and they get nothing in return? It's a big laugh."

Because that's totally what I meant, actually.

From an uninformed, outside view, timed DLC is ridiculous and useless.

If it didn't work on some level though, it wouldn't keep happening, so logic dictates that it must be successful enough to warrant the constant wads of money being chucked around.
