@Green
Sorry, I didn't mean you. I meant the guy above you.
@BillionLoss
You're right, of course, and this will happen in some cases. But a lot of the kids currently playing Wii will end up being core gamers in the long run so they're likely to end up getting a different console, and if the 360 is cheap enough with Natal included then alot of kids will be waking up with it on Christmas morning.
But that depends on the price. Little Johnny wh...

On new years eve I went round my grandparents house around 9PM and 4 of them were playing an 18 round of golf. Come 12 we had to turn it off because there will still rounds to play.
They'd been playing a while when I got there.
I wouldn't even call them gamers, but they're putting more time into my hobby then I am.
'Also, if Sony and Microsoft both offer HD consoles WITH the capabilities of the Wii, what's the point of the Wii? I only see Nintendo franchises standing in the way of Natal and Sony's Wand, not the casual market.'
Anybody who is into their technology enough to care about HD graphics has probably already invested in a PS3 or XBOX. Their is a slim chance they will follow games sites casually to find out about new things for them and may know about Natal.
The truth is...
'It's called word of mouth kind of like what happened with the Wii. I think the idea of playing games with out a controller sounds like a plus for casuals.'
I don't think that's a big deal for casuals. In fact, I can't imagine anyone I know playing Golf or Tennis on the Wii and feeling comfortable without holding anything that is, roughly, the same shape as the Wiimote anyway. Especially since anybody who is any good at it uses the 'waggle' to their advantage.
I can'...
You should have read the article.
We're not talking about Natal being a financial or even a critical failure. In most cases those things are so hard to guess weeks, even months in advance...As you say, I have no chance of writing an article on that.
I'm talking about why Microsoft, who seem to be aiming for the casual market by using mini-games and 'fun for five' applications in all it's press information concerning Natal, will inevitably lose out in the casual marke...
I like your ideas, but I have a couple of thoughts on them.
Belly Dancing training would be a super niche title, unlike something like Yoga which is very 'in' right now. It'd would be awesome for the people who love Belly Dancing (and a great work out for the rest of us), don't get me wrong. But I can't imagine a developer actively going out there way to make a game like that when a yoga game would instantly sell more and be easier to make...
Your point is basically:...
I wouldn't normally do this...
But you've completely missed the point.
I didn't say natal would fail. I said it would fail at it's primary function, which is to grab the casual crowd. The reason it won't grab the casual crowd? Because the Wii has everything most casual gamers want out of the box and, since most of the people who would be tempted into buying Natal already have been tempted into buying the Wii, what is the point?
But I congratulate y...
the 'cartoon' Zelda games because i hated the sailing segments. I found them annoying and long and the triforce hunt segment put me off Wind Waker for years.
My girlfriend is playing this at the minute, when she's finished i'll give it a bash, see if I can enjoy the more linear train.
I agree to a certain extent. I mean, there are games out there that are full of charm, Littlebigplanet springs to mind.
On the other hand, I love the filmy qualities of games when it is done well. I thought Metal Gear Solid 4 was beautiful and Uncharted 2 was perfect.
I could never get into Harvest Moon. It always seemed too much like number crunching without any real reward, like continuing through the story.
I'm an avid gamer, but could never bring myself to game just for the sake of it.
I should play a more recent one, might change my mind.
with this being announced this early, only a few months after the first was released.
My major problem is that Batman: AA had loads of trailers which, in turn, meant the internet became loaded with spoilers. Since it was a success and they've had one trailer this early in development, I imagine the second may be worse.
Hopefully i'm wrong. I'd hate to know half the story before the release date is even announced.
but i was playing the PS3 version. There were a few occasions in the later levels but, to be honest, it wasn't that major: move the analogue stick and it was sorted.
I'll have to get hold of the wii version and update the review.
didn't enjoy X so much the first time round. Found it to be a little too much of a romantic story, rather than that being the subplot like in earlier games.
On replay though it is one of my favourites, the battle system is awesome and the tech/natural confliction is almost an analogy for how some people feel in the real world.
I don't remember struggling too much in Zanerkand, mainly because of the beautiful save point system, healing me every time i touched them. It...
probably hit the £7.99 mark and i'll have to give it a pass. I still have the physical copy somewhere anyway.
This gen is quite amazing, people will happily shell out their money for games that hit the sales pretty quickly ten years ago, although i'm not talking about Vagrant Story paticuarly.
It has to be better than getting it off ebay though. They're charging £40 for it.
I'm one of those people who watched and played things that may have been a little old for me when I was younger.
Why? Because everything i saw or played had been seen and played by my parents and they had decided that, with a little gentle expaining (Or fast forwarding, depending) I was mature enough to experiance that film or game.
Having grown up in that sort of environment it still amazes me to this day when a fully grown adult, someone who has survived to the...
Left 4 Dead 1 got samey quite quickly for me, the one plus side being online split screen.
Played the demo for the second and it just seems more of the same, which for the huge amount of people who loved the original isn't a bad thing. This is a rent for me at best.
when someone involved feels the need to "defend" it.
If the developers feel the need to tell you the game is good, you probably won't get that feeling from the game. Which is a huge reason why i'll stick with Forza 2 without upgrading.
Interview. When we're all on forums running down games (And it's easy enough to do when you don't enjoy a game much) it's often easy to forget that there are people, professionals, behind each and every poor production.
My only comment on the interview is this: the questions were a little mild. I know that NG don't have the clout of Kotaku yet and it was a fantastic achievement to get the Interview in the first place, but still.
It was a great start.
This is one of those games that will sell to the Music genre fans just because of the cool controller, I think.
I mean, like you, there aren't many tracks I'd be in a rush to play, but I can't help but price the damn thing up because I want to play a music game with a slightly different controller.
Ahhhh, i'll just wait for Keyboard Hero.
You've got a great point. Nothing is in black and white.
I'm wondering now whether or not part time gamers could make Natal profitable. Are there really that many out there? I know plenty of people who own an Xbox and don't really play it, but what would it take for them to shell out money on Natal?
All interesting questions.
