I couldn't agree more with the author about most of the games this year -- although I'm not certain I would agree with all of his 2007 examples of 'heart'.
Personally, I'd recommend for the author to buy a portable machine or check out the downloadable channels. Live, Wiiware, PSN, etc. That's where I found most of the best gaming experiences this year.
"So please, no more articles arguing how this console or that console is doomed because the truth is none of them are."
I can get behind this sentiment.
"Is the Wii a 'viable platform' for M-rated games?"
Sure. Just probably not M-rated games that are available on the PS3 or the 360.
As someone who owns multiple systems, it's not a very difficult concept to understand.
"You can't argue with the logic: so far this year, not one Mature-rated Wii game made NPD's top-selling list, even though mature games yield the most revenue."
Uh, since when do games have to be t...
"I don't believe, had RE4 been made for the PS2 exclusively, that it would have been ported to the GC later.."
Probably not, as the PS2 was not a fast sinking ship at the. Ditto for Killer 7 or Viewtiful Joe or the other members of the Capcom 5 if PN03 had actually sold well or if Dead Phoenix had actually been finished.
Basically, we should regard statements like these, no matter how certainly expressed, as provisional sentiments at best.
"You also forgot to list Guitar Hero."
Fair enough.
Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock (2 million).
"Metroid Prime is first party."
And? Are you saying that it's a game for the Raving Rabbids mini-game crowd?
"Raving Rabbids and Sonic doesn't cater to the same demographic i was talking about."
Where did I say that they did?
You asked to look at what type of game...
It's really a shame the treatment Blast Works gets (I'm not certain how well it sold because I can't even *find* actual numbers about it online; not a good sign) because it really is sublime. I've gotten more hours than I can count of play out of some genuinely fantastic user generated content, and I got it early on for only thirty dollars (now it's even cheaper -- another bad sign for sales).
That essentially makes it the anti-Mirror's edge in terms of the amount of hours of...
"Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition (1.4 million)
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption (1.31 million)
Rayman Raving Rabbids (1.2 million)
Sonic and the Secret Rings (1.2 million)
Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles (1.15 million
Red Steel (1 million)"
God, Gamepro is such a worthless site.
It makes me sad that none of these lists have mentioned Blast Works: Build, Trade, Destroy.
"The Wii's first flop was launching the console"
No, I'm certain that's the PS3 you're thinking of.
"Resident Evil 4 will definitely release only on GameCube, not on another console. If that happens I will cut my head off" -- Shinji Mikami, Capcom Producer.
"It's Metal Gear. For the iPhone."
Yes!!!!!!
Great move on Konami's part.
"If you had heard of Custer's Revenge, you already knew it was going to take the top spot. We're guessing that if video games continue as an art for 100 years, this one will still not have relinquished its throne."
Ha ha ha... So true...
"The question is, are the BULK of Wii owners going to WANT third party titles that are designed for the "more hardcore?"
I'm a little puzzled. Why should that be relevant? From a financial point of view, the Wii install base is large enough so that even a small fraction still equates to a sizable number of customers.
For instance, if we assume very conservatively that only one-tenth of the thirty million Wii owners fall into the 'hardcore' or whate...
"Couldn't some third-party games like Geometry Wars: Galaxies, de Blob, Boom Blox, and Blast Works have been mentioned?"
The problem is that a lot of people don't actually know these games exist and aren't interested in finding out.
This video's actually a bit old, as they've since released the uncensored version.

The enemy getting deep fried is great, but the guy being fed into the woodchipper or whatever is absolutely priceless.
"They used to have a Seal of Quality where they wouldn't even let you release a game unless it was up to scratch."
That's really true.
Hey, did you guys know that the middle-finger gesture originated from English archers in the Middle Ages who showed their middle fingers to their French enemies? They did this to show the French, who would sever the digits of captured English soldiers to prevent them from using their longbows, that their hands were intac...
Given that about 95% of the responses in the VGA article were negative, what exactly is the rationale for caring about what games are Game of the Year?
I hate to actually respond to a Bruceongames entry, since it might give people the mistaken impression that it's a real site or something, but some things cannot be avoided, I suppose.
"Will the Wii bubble now finally burst?"
Uh, a bit of friendly writing advice, the word 'now' is kind of redundant in regards to the whole sentence. It's a bit of an awkward construction and isn't much of an improvement over simply saying "Will the Wii bubble finally...
Well, that's a disadvantage of community-run news sites. If there were a central, professional editor approving each and every article on the site, there wouldn't be much overlap.
Instead, we have tons of moderators, and every time a dozen of them agree on an article, it gets through. It's pretty much inevitable that you'll get meme-articles.
Hence the few dozen "Wii is not hardcore" articles.
