"1889 - A card game business specialising in stylish Hanafuda (flora) cards is set up by Fusajiro Yamauchi under the name of Nintendo Koppai. The business struggles until the yakuza decide to adopt the cards for their high-stakes gambling. The yakuza would demand a new pack at the start of every game and would look to Yamauchi to supply them."

That's awesome.

"dude nothing of what you just wasted your time typing makes any sense that i had to laugh when i read it all lol."

No offense, but this is because you are likely still in middle school.

"explain to me why would a system which has a larger install base than its competitors have a lower attach rate?"

Because attach rates tend to favor systems with few users. For instance, the Gamecube had a lifetime attach rate of 9 games.

"if you were owner of a movie/game company or even a director i wouldn't hire you for squat."

This is one of the reasons why you are not in charge of a major corporation.

"last i checked the 360 lead in attach rate sales"

A. Attach rates are a terrible measure.

B. The 360's been out longer than the competition. It would be a failure if it *didn't* have a huge lead in game-tie numbers.

You couldn't *just* have a title saying "New Sonic Chronicles artwork" and leave it at that? Seriously?!

"People didn’t take too kindly to Nintendo’s E3 display"

If by "people" you mean "roughly 1% of their market," sure.

"Like Metroid Prime 3 which saw minimal advertising"

Um, can you provide a source on that? I would swear that I saw that silly "Wii would like to play" commercial for it about three hundred times.

"and resulting in pretty poor sales considering its importance in t...

Personally, I'm waiting for a site I've actually heard of to review it, but I have (and have had) high hopes for the game since I first saw it. This is the kind of game I've been looking forward to ever since I heard the Wii wasn't going to compete in the HD race.

I mean, yeah, the Wii doesn't have the graphical power of the other two consoles, much less PCs, but I'm interested to see how developers respond to that. Some will take the High Voltage approach and try to get every ...

"The real is: Will they be able to carry those users onto their next console?"

Assuming we have enough evidence to answer that question, does it really matter? Nintendo's current business model is the way it is entirely because its (admittedly strong) first-party offerings on the N64 and the 'Cube weren't enough to really persuade people to buy it over the competition and its third-party support was nearly non-existent. Heck, a large chunk of what little third-party s...

Ha, exactly.

I'll give them credit for knowing *a* spec, but at heart, these are still the kind of comments that at their core lead people to call tech support and ask why they can't hook up two internet connections to one computer, add the connections together, and get twice as fast load times.

People, computers... don't... work... that way....

There really are fewer things more frustrating than watching lay-people argue technical specs with people who actually work in technical fields.

I doubt the price drop will change much in the overall picture, but this is great for people who wanted to buy a 360 and didn't have enough cash for it.

Competition for the win!

Hilariously awful advertising for a hilariously awful product.

"There are a handful of good M rated games on Nintendo systems, emphasis necessary, but that doesn't mean they appeal to mature audiences. Look at their best selling and top rated games. They're mostly first party, rated E, sequels, and some are better on other consoles."

Of course: the audience that only buys mature games is dead weight.

"[The Wii is] Not alcohol friendly."

Most incorrect statement I've ever read.

Well, some people are just dedicated to their hobbies. If someone has 200 dollars to invest in entertainment for the month, there are worse things they could do with their money.

"However, can one game alone repair the damage of the last year-and-a-half?"

Well, the extent of last year's damage or if it is just one worthy game on the system depends on who you ask, but even so, a single game can do wonders if done well enough.

Well, my point is more that we have virtually no way of knowing whether all those PS3 games are also on the 360 or whether all the 360 games are also on cellphones and the PC or if all the PS2 games are also on the Wii.

I mean, there's a 131 title discrepancy between those two lists, which assuming the Kotaku people aren't completely incompetent -- not out of the question, mind you -- means a significant number of multi-platform games. There's no way to really figure out the s...

"lost sales are lost sales - I won't be buying the next Nintendo console"

Which is exactly what you should be doing. If a console is released with games that don't meet your personal preferences, by all means, you should return it, return your games, and not buy any more products that don't appeal to you. The choice to buy or not to buy is the greatest weapon we as gamers have -- Far greater than random articles and comments made on electronic web pages.

I really don't understand how some people can be against this kind of thing. I think it's great if the elderly have something new and fun to do with their time.

"This should provide an insight."

Inasmuch as an article that provides an incomplete, vague list of genres and platforms with as little specifics as possible can provide an insight, I guess.

• Action: 90 titles
• RPG: 35 titles
• "Simulation": 22 titles
• Sports: 20 titles
• Adventure: 14 titles
• Shooting: 11 titles
• Racing: 3 titles

Total titles 195.
