You're downplaying a legitimate complaint. This is a NEW problem, not an old one. On the PS3 and PS4, there was always some kind of dedicated "NEW" section where you could see all of the new stuff, consequential or not. Hopefully. €80 for every game is way too much. If people refuse to buy a game for a new IP like Returnal but buy Rachet & Clank, then this price increase will also encourage companies to take less risks as well. Overall, this just isn't good for the industry.
I think Microsoft are just waiting to see which way the wind blows, and they'll start doing this eventually if other companies get away with it.

The game is actually €80 (almost 100 US dollars, tax included). It's mad.
I feel bad for the devs if the sales suffer but €80 is too much money for a video-game, and this price point needs to fail.

Nah. The PS audience would have been way more interested in Sunset Overdrive than the Xbox userbase, especially because they've played loads of Insomniac games and know of their quality.
Nioh was given out on PS Plus around a year ago (most people who have PS Now also have PS Plus) and Jump Force is not particularly good. There's a big gap in quality between PS Plus and PS Now.

It's kind of crazy that they've gone from Resogun to Returnal in just one generation. I would've never thought that they'd end up making a big budget third person shooter published by Sony.

This game intentionally lands the shots for you as long as you're shooting relatively close to the enemy to allow the player to focus on mobility and dodging attacks, and to emulate to twin stick formula in 3rd person.
Tbh, VV did an amazing job on the Pro Skater 1+2 remake. The arrangement they had where Toys for Bob works on the Crash games (and perhaps Spyro) and VV works on the Tony Hawk games was pretty much perfect ... and then they had to ruin it.
The jump to €80 is also ridiculously overpriced. We we already paying a lot more than the Americans at €70 (even if you account for the difference in taxes). Even with taxes, Americans were not paying $84.50 for a new game.

A fair point if you're talking about third party games but none of the Sony launch games on PS5 have dropped in price where I live, at least digitally, and the price of the physical versions is usually very close to full digital price and sometimes more (looking at the prices on Amazon UK which is a huge vendor).

That's actually not true. Ghost of Tsushima's review embargo was July 14th 2020 and its release was Jul 17th 2020.
It was the same 3 day difference for Spider-man (PS4) where the review embargo was September 4th 2018 and the release date was September 7th 2018.
I also forgot to mention in my original comment that I posted loads of Returnal reviews on N4G as well. Just check my account.
People on this site can be very tribal. I think I own every Housemarque game released over the last 10 years besides Matterfall including the lesser selling ones like Nex Machina and Outland. I watched loads of previews uploaded to Youtube last week for Returnal, and I was not convinced or rooting for the game to "bomb".

The current average is 86 on Metacritic and it should stay at least that high as it was going back and forth between 86 and 87.
The main issues are that the game is too expensive (I don't live in the UK but €80 here in Ireland is madness) and the game is not something that a lot of people are sure they would like (it's big budget rogue-lite). Regardless of the game's quality, those factors are not a good combination for sales, and a lot of people are likely waiting for a sale for the game to go down to at least a normal price.
