Both Sony and Toshiba are on the DVD forum and actually vote on HD-DVD specs, updates and distribution.

So Sony is aware of every tech feature or distribution decision (Chinese HD-DVD players) that HD-DVD wants to do.

I think that is just as funny.

Not true. Alot of the titles that "needed" 50 gigs, were coded with MPEG 2 which is a huge space hog of a codec.

Virtually all HD-DVD's use VC-1 which is far more efficient on space. In addition, with the approval of the 51gig TL, EVERY Blu-Ray will fit on HD-DVD.

the 360 sold over 6000 units in one week! That has to be its best since launch.:)

For the past few months, the PS3 has ALWAYS been above the 360 in bestsellers at Amazon, and the 360 still outsold it month in and month out(except July).

Amazon is only one retailer and gives a small glimpse into what may or may not be a trend. I would give this at least a couple weeks before all you Sony fanboys claim "it's all over".

I did notice in last weeks Fred Meyer add, they are bundling Bioshock with any new 360 premium. I don't know if this will be more than Fred Meyer, but it seems like a good idea.

Simple fact:

PS3 is in last place.

Actually, think of it this way:
If you want to watch a Blu-ray movie, it can ONLY be seen on a Blu-ray player. Do you think that anyone right now has more than one Blu-ray capable devise in their homes? Probably not. But I am pretty sure that those same people have more than one DVD player.(Living room, kitchen, or bedroom)
The advantage the HD-DVD/DVD combos have is that you only have to buy ONE disc to play in all those applications. The consumer doesn't need to go buy two se...

At least we have games to drool over.

6825d ago 3 agree0 disagreeView comment

Games do not need HDMI to be in 1080p. 1080p over HDMI is only required when watching movies(due to copyright laws)

Component cables are all that are needed for games to be shown on 1080p hdtv's.

They just said that 720p was the sweetspot for games, not that it couldn't be done.

-This was to optimise framrate and total environment--like Gears.
-It is also to take advantage of the fact that MOST people own a 720p or 1080i tv.

Here is VG Chartz numbers for worldwide console sales for August vs. Sept.:

August: 372,000
Sept: 590,000

That is an increase of over 220,000 consoles in one month. To make it even more incredible is that Halo 3 was out for only the very last week of September.

It may not have sold 5 million in 5 days, but I'll give it about 10 days.

Is there any other game released that could even come close to that though? The quick answer is no.

Is that it NOT be packaged like Halo 3 limited edition!

6828d ago 2 agree0 disagreeView comment

The numbers game can be played to death. The reality is that MS and Sony just have different strageties right now. MS is giving more choice in how an individual wants to play their games, where Sony is more of a take-it or leave-it approach.

Remember, Blu-ray fans pride themselves on how expensive and elite their systems are. They wouldn't dare to lower their noses down to try and compete with the "inferior" format. :)

In 24 hours, 2 million people showed they had the same buying power as 17 million people over 3 days.

To compare a video game launch with a book or movie is so stupid.

First: There is only a MAXIMUM of 5-6 million potential Halo 3
customers in the U.S.

Second: Virtually EVERYONE is a potential book buyer or movie watcher

Third: Nearly 40% of all 360 owners bought Halo 3 on the first day!
I would like to see a book or movie try and pull 40% of he available audience in one day.

3 things:
1.Halo is a video game, Spiderman was a movie.

2.Halo can ONLY be played on an Xbox 360 (10-12 million worldwide)
Spiderman could be seen ANY theater around the world for months on end.

3.It only took Halo3 roughly 2 million people to make $170 million in 24 HOURS!

It took 3 days and roughly 17 million tickets for Spiderman 3 to reach the same amount.

Last time I checked,(based on VGcharts sales) 5 of the top 10 games last week were 360 titles.

Now Lair, Warhawk, Madden 08, have all been out for about a month and the best either or those can do is 19th!?

Bioshock has been out for about the same amount of time, and it sold more than all three of those titles COMBINED.

I will give credit to HS though, at least it made it in to the top 5.
