I don't believe that anyone can tell what will happen this christmas season, but I am willing to bet that a $199 HD-DVD player has a far better chance of selling more units in the long run than a $500-$600 game system. (I say game system because MOST people who are not gamers only know Playstation for games)
Do they include a 30 year payment plan with these things?
MS looses less money by doing this than Sony looses on every console sold.:)
Do you know who sells Venturer? WAL-MART
Do you know who sells almost 45% of all DVD's? WAL-MART
So when the average Wal-mart customer goes in to buy SM3 or Pirates 3, do 'ya think they will want to spend about $300-$400 MORE for a Blu-ray player just to watch those two movies?
---OR would they be more likely to pay $150-$200 for an HD-DVD player to watch Shrek 3 and/or Transformers?
But BOTH Blu-ray and HD-DVD have already been cracked and titles are available to be downloaded.
If you really want these titles on high-def, then just buy an HD-DVD player:)
That's what all the Blu-ray guys have been saying to HD-DVD fans for months now.
Unless one or the other has a player around $100.
Then I wouldn't regret my purchase at all. Even if one format died today, they both have around 400 titles to choose from and it would still be a great upscaling player.
YOU stated the PS3 is the reason that Blu-ray will win.
It is a flawed assumption that a GAME MACHINE will apeal to the mass market of new HDTV owners.
They will not be looking to spend what a PS3 costs when a perfectly good HD-DVD player costs ALOT less.
Take off your PS3 goggles.
Gamers or average joe movie watchers?
I think when faced with the pricetag of the PS3, MOST average consumers will pick the HD-DVD player sitting next to it for 200-300 less.
How many RROD stories on this site alone have been hearsay or "personal" experiences that NEVER get backed up with actual evidence?
Am I saying that the 360 doesn't fail from time to time? HELL NO!
I just think it is 360 haters that are more willing to post and LIE about their experience just to drum up bad press.
According to your own post, you say that the PS3 makes up 90% of the Blu-ray market.
How many casual movie watchers wanting to get into high-def will be willing to pay $500-$600 bucks for a GAME MACHINE when the "other format" is significantly less?
My point is that the PS3 helped get the Blu-ray format out in high numbers quickly because of the early game system adopters, but it is still tiny compaired to the MUCH larger movie watching market who doesn...
If Blu-ray players components are "nearly identical" then why are their players a minimum of $200 MORE!!!!
If anyone in this format war is being "anti-consumer" it is the companies that charge way too much for their products.
"the 360 core security is still in place"
"the xbox 360 hackers still have a long way to go..."
^^^^^cdzie1
must have been thinking the same thing at the same time:)
Except:
- Target didn't "side" with blu-ray, Sony just paid to have an endcap display
(they still sell and promote BOTH formats)
-HD-DVD was not created by "only Toshiba". Many companies other than Toshiba were a part of it's development and HD-DVD was the format chosen by the DVD forum to succeed standard DVD.
-"Greed as a motivator". I find this whole argument funny that only HD-DVD backed transactions and deals are...
I know that the current series of HD-DVD players don't support 3 layer, but the 3rd gen Tosh players are coming out in October and they just might.
Everything I have read about the HD downloads from Xbox marketplace is that they are in 720P maximum.
It still don't understand why the movie studios couldn't have just adopted an in-between step of offering 720p movies on double layer DVD with slightly upgraded DVD players.
PS3 has sold what 1.4-1.7 million consoles in the US.
HD-DVD 360 add-ons and standalones have sold about 300-400 thousand.
(based on the last figures I have seen)
That makes almost a 5 to 1 margin of AVAILABLE players for each format.
But Blu-ray / HD-dvd disc sales stay about a 2 to 1 margin.
HMMMMM.
All I read from Sony fanboys is "M$ is screwing you!! hahahahahha!" etc.
When you have to spend $120 MORE for a system to play the same game, who's doing the screwing?
Wow, you sure are mature. I'd guess 11 or 12 years old?
