there are still too many kinks to be worked out with new tech like this.
These are the growing pains that new odopters have to endure.
See, it solves two problems that even 360 owners complain about:
bigger hard drive and hdmi port
As a 360 prem owner with VGA hookup, it doesn't matter to me or alot of current owners. This is the best bet for new 360 buyers.
Would I liked to have seen a price drop instead? HELL NO! I just bought mine 4 months ago and I wouldn't like that one bit.
-----but I know it is coming soon----
Besides MS has to be making money on this SKU...
This story is about a certain SKU of the 360 being available on it's launch day.
I love how you had to bring up the "reliability" issue though, proving that Sony fans cannot stay on topic and always fall back to the old standbys: "it always breaks, it doesn't have hd-dvd drive, the cell kicks ass, bla, bla, bla."
If the 360 was actually as unreliable as some people would want, why does it continually outsell the PS3 every month?
Remember this move by MS is to address the IPTV that MS is coming out with this fall. They are intensionally avoiding putting in the HD-DVD drive because all their games MUST play on all three SKU's and besides, MS is trying to push movie downloads over any disc format since they are a software company.
We definitely agree on one thing, this is about Sony fans trying to make themselves feel better because no matter what they do or say the Elite will only make the number of 360 sales go up.
Oh yeah that means more than what they are already selling above the PS3.
I don't believe this video for one second(Simply because in this day and age it is soooo easy to post any unverified video and call it "news")
So you are telling me that PS3's don't or can't have problems? I guarantee they have, but I guess that "Xbots" just don't have the time or they just have more class not to go on and on about how crappy the "other" console is.
1.Reason for new SKU(redesign)is totally obvious: MS has IPTV coming this fall. That is the reason for larger hard drive and HDMI.
--can you say TIVO that play games?--
2.Do you think that if Sony drops their price that MS won't? At least MS is actually making money on their machine as it is.
3.I don't consider 10,000 PS3's sold last month in Japan to be "dominating" anything.
4.Face it. Sony won't will not be the player it...
This is about a retailer trying to decide which format will sell them more discs.
Newsflash: retailers make their money on repeat business, not the initial hardware sale!
If I use your numbers, since inception: 300k vs. 3m available players and Blu-ray can only muster a little over 200k more in overall sales?
To say it again: HD-DVD buyers purchase more movies per player than Blu-ray buyers.
If only one thing about this article is true, then it IS important if Wal-mart is interested in buying into the HD-DVD format:
They sell 40% of all dvds!
Seems that if a retailer of that magnitude is interested in this format, they may feel it isn't going to die as soon as others would want it to.
The Wii wins in Japan because the Japanese seem to go crazy about things that are "cute" and child-like.
Oh yeah, they could also be smart shoppers like everywhere else and not want to spend tons of money on a system that doesn't have the games yet.
Time Warner will only charge $500 a month
Maybe "Fu Yuan" actually means "Fooled Ya"? LOL
In two years!?
Won't the PS2 be like $10 then? Everyone on the planet will own one and the PS3 will still be $600.
It will take a player (of any format) in the sub $199 range to really change the interest of the average joe dvd buyer. Just look at the Wii for instance(I realize it isn't under 199). But, it is the least expensive next-gen game console and whether we(hi-def fans) like it or not, price means sales!
I always wondered if Wal-Mart is "the company" that owns everything in future in all those Alien movies. It looks as if this is coming true.
They are intentionally being confusing about which format this is because either Blu-ray or HD-DVD fans will race out and buy this thing because it will be so cheap(oh yea, and buy a few movies while you are there as well) Which is what Wal-mart really makes money on.
This is Wal-mart's secret weapon to eliminate this war and bring a new format called Wal-DVD to America with $50 players and $1 movies.
That just means they sold half their stock of HD-DVD's.LOL
but the players were pushing 700-1000 dollars with virtually no choices for movies.
All I was saying is that Blu-ray players out number HD-DVD players(this includes both PS3 and HD-DVD add-on)by a
factor of about 30 to 1. So logically shouldn't there be a 30 to 1 disc sales figure?
Believe me, I am happy for Blu-ray's sales. All it means is that as a format right now it not selling as many discs per player as HD-DVD. And from a marketing standpoint, I beli...
Hasn't Sony said there are over 3 million ps3's sold so far? So if I do the numbers right(excluding all stand-alone blu-ray players) that means a .3 attach rate for movies.
I know that HD-DVD have not sold anywhere near that number of players, but they are fairly close to a million discs sold.
Like I have read before, people buy the PS3 and 360 for games not movies. It will be the standalone players(that the average person can afford to buy)that will make disc s...
lets see what $75 more gets you with an Elite:
-100g larger hard drive
-hdmi port (in addition to existing 360 port)
-an actual hdmi cable
-all black accessories(lol)
Considering MS is only recently making about $50 profit on the premium per console, If I do my math right, the cost of the new HDD, hdmi cable, and all new skins in black make the cost of the Elite for MS more than what they will sell it for.
