It is fact that the PS3 effect is the ONLY reason Blu-ray sold more discs. However, (as if it hasn't been said enough) somone who purchases a stand-alone dedicated player will buy more movies.
Remember, it took almost 4 million PS3s vs. < 1 million HD-DVD players to sell a 1.5:1 ratio of discs.
Only Blu-roids could say paying $127.00 for a brand new machine with 7 free movies be considered a "rip-off"?
A free HD-DVD player with the purchase of a Blu-ray player.:)
Both formats screwed the consumer with the ridiculous prices they charge for the discs and the players(except Toshiba lately)
How is it that anyone can rent an HD-DVD in Blockbuster?
Oh yeah, they can't anyway.
I guess that makes your job that much easier.:)
If Blu-ray is kickin' ass and takin' names, why "give away" these red-hot players?
I am hoping that HD-DVD never dies........JUST TO PISS YOU OFF! :)
He obviously has never ventured over here and seen the way Blu-roids treat HD-DVD supporters.:)
But if MS drops the price on the 360(which it will if the PS3 starts to gain ground) and then they will be right back where we are now.
1. Because it has two seperate versions of the film in 1080p.(Final cut and theatrical cut)Its the same for Blu-ray. I honestly don't get your point on that one.
2. Here's an article that is 11 months newer than yours:
http://www.xbitlabs.com/new...
*never says it CANNOT play.
3.Until Universal and...
1. Most extras have not even been filmed in HD.
2.When did you get the insider info on the 51gig disc? Since even the final test results have not been released.
3.Universal+Paramount= no Blu-ray support.
4.Stop spreading FUD.
I know that your excited about the PS3, but it is going to have to outsell the 360 for a long time to actually pass it.
And that does not include WHEN the 360 has another price cut.
I don't know where this guy got his facts, but he was way off on quite a few of them.
HD movies on XBL are 4-8 gigs because they are a maximum of 720p and 5.1 digital audio (no lossless or True HD).
So you are right, for the best in picture and audio, HD-DVD and Blu-ray are hands down winners.
In my opinion, HDM will only be a niche market though. DVD will still reign supreme with high-def discs, downloads, and rentals splitting up the rest of movie watching.
Only the HD-A3 is 1080i. The rest all output at 1080p. Even so, a good 1080p tv will deinterlace the 1080i signal.
And no, only the PS3 is fully updatable. The 1.1 and 2.0 profiles are hardware based.
No they can't. Profile 1.1 and 2.0 are hardware profiles not software.
But, since so few Blu-ray players are not PS3's it isn't going to hurt very many.
Besides, they will still play the movie portion of future Blu-ray releases.
Let the market decide.
If HD-DVD is dead, like so many here say, then who cares if HD-DVD players and discs are still made?
Doesn't it mean those companies will just loose their ass?
And really, isn't that what alot here want to have happen?
How about just to irritate Blu-ray fans?
@9.1 I believe that Sony has lost ALOT more pushing the Blu-ray format that Toshiba ever did with HD-DVD.
Maybe some people will.
When someone can buy two HD-DVD players, get 14 free movies, and purchase 3 more movies for the same price as the least expensive Blu-ray, why not?
then don't buy it.
If someone wants it, then they will buy and it still won't make a bit of difference which format wins or looses.
