FFX is my favorite game ever. Can't wait for this.
"The Last Guardian slips into a 2011 release."
Sigh. Don't want to admit it, but I have to agree. They just haven't shown enough of this game for a release within a year.
Don't know how you got a disagree for that excellent (if old-school) South Park reference. +bub
You're right to say that Square made a choice with linearity. You may not like it, and that's okay. Lots of people already don't like it. But 1.5 or however many million games in a week is enough to show that people are still buying what Square is selling. And they are selling Final Fantasy. If you don't like FFXIII, no problemo. There are loads of other good games coming out in the next three months. Merry Christmas (unless you celebrate another holiday, and in that case, have a good ...
Nice article. The guy presents his opinion (with support!) and lets readers decide for themselves.
And can we please quit blaming Microsoft for all the evils in the world. Square may not be the same company it was in the 90s, but that is not Microsoft's fault. Straight-line simplicity can accommodate a closely controlled story (which this certainly is), and that is no different than Final Fantasy X or even VI-IX, in all honesty (you can't even form your own battle groups in FF...
Video games do not have uniform retail prices in Japan like they do in other territories. High profile games in Japan (and FF is one of the very highest) sell at $80-90 USD. That has been true for a very long time and likely is not affecting people's decision to buy it any more than normal. (I won't bother to post any links since this was covered exhaustively when Square first announced the price this fall.)
On topic: If price were actually a factor, the sales numbers would be...
I've been waiting like 4 damn years for this game...I would like a cookie.
@fig: I don't usually read such long posts, but you made some very good points in that one. +bub
@14.0: Dude. If the internet has scared you away from FFXIII you obviously weren't interested to begin with. Who cares if a few internet gas bags complain about FFXIII after playing it (in Japanese) for 45 minutes? I've been gaming for over two decades and it is still my most anticipated game ever. Play games that look fun to YOU rather than some games journalists you've never met...
"Member Only In-game Content"
Unlocking content on a retail disc for DLC is bad enough, but making content available only to premium members is a very, very big problem.
I don't know how I compare to others, but I own 24 PS3 games including PSN titles. I've had my system for less than two years. I will be buying at least three more games in the next two months, as well as some DLC.
I thought FFIX was the red-headed stepchild that everyone moaned about (before XII at least).
Whatever. They're all awesome.
FFX had almost no branching paths and is typically in the top 5 of best PS2 games lists. Linearity can be done well, just like open-world can be screwed up.
Let me just echo kewlkat. In all seriousness, FFX is my favorite game 3VAR. You will not be disappointed.
Don't even JOKE about English subs in the Japanese version. My hopes are way too high for that already.
Square doesn't do free things.
Ha ha! Did you just compare Final Fantasy to the Power Rangers? Son, you're all right.
On topic, I will buy single player FF games for as long as Square makes them.
If backwards compatibility is such an issue for you, well, Sony lowered the price of the PS3 by $100. A new PS2 costs $100.
@1.9
For awhile after Halloween you were supposed to be able to just manually change the date in your PS3 to October 31 and get the Pure Black World Tendency. I've just tried this right now and it did not work for me. I guess they've turned that particular cheat off like they did with the infinite souls glitch.
Sorry to have confused everyone. You may hurl rotten fruit at me if you wish.
PW WT would be a nice gift, as you can change your PS3 to October 31 and get PB WT anytime now. This would negate some of the problems with the tendency getting buggered up when you play online.
Halfway through NG+ and loving every minute.
Seems like the lower-end sites are rushing through their import copies and then complaining to get hits.
Everyone's crying that this isn't the best game ever without realizing that it doesn't need to be. It just needs to be a Final Fantasy game.
