I saw "The Count of Monty Cresto" in the first paragraph and quit reading. If this guy's article isn't worth his own time to Google the title of a classic novel/movie, then it's clearly not worth mine. Anyway, I figured out on my own that MGS4 was fantastic when I bought it two years ago.
PBWT + Large Sword of Searching + Luck Stat over 30 gives you a MUCH better shot at the pure bladestone. And you can kill the Black Phantom skeletons with a single hit from behind with Soulsucker (warp to Old Hero's archstone and backtrack). You also get a massive amount of souls for each kill this way, so you can grind levels while you're waiting for the stone. Good luck!

I thought the first Uncharted was the first game with trophies, which were released as a patch.
I just did replay Heavenly Sword a couple weeks ago, even without trophy support. I had never played it on my HDTV and was amazed that it still looks better (and is more fun) than a lot of new games.
Also, I'd still like trophies for Folklore and Valkyria Chronicles.
Edit: And Tools of Destruction. A Crack in Time was actually too easy to Platinum.
As a fan of the HP books but not the movies, I have to say this game is fantastic. It's packed with little winks and nods to people who know the stories well, and even without the HP license, it's a solid adventure/puzzle game. My best game of the summer.
It's just another excuse to complain about FFXIII and get hits. Ignore.
These are the same guys who said Deadly Premonition is one of the top 10 games of 2010. Their reviews come out later than most media outlets, so I think sometimes they just say the opposite of everyone else to get attention.
I just picked up Indigo Prophecy for $3.39. I've never tried the Civ series before either. Sounds like you recommend it too?

But XIII was barely out the door and selling millions when Wada proclaimed it might be the last FF forever. it's like the guy takes it personally when games he doesn't like do well. Not a good CEO. Personally, I'd buy 100 FFXIII's before a single FFIX.
That's an interesting idea, but two arguments come to mind:
1. It took Square five years to make a game as linear as FFXIII, so how long would a game with a story-driven SP plus MMO style MP take them?
2. White Knight Chronicles did exactly what you suggested and, while okay, it didn't do either SP or MP exceptionally well.

Does anyone else see a pattern emerging where a game that is universally praised on launch comes under fire for being "flawed" after a few weeks, and games that reviews say are garbage start being defended after a similar amount of time?
I'm all for differing opinions this trend seems like another sign (if anyone needed it) the gaming media has become bloated and desperate to maintain a steady stream of "news."

Devs don't get nearly every dime from game sales. They pay all the people you mentioned, plus marketing costs, publishing costs, and Sony undoubtedly takes a cut for putting the game on PSN, like Apple does when songs sell on iTunes. Breaking even is a huge deal for an Indie game.
