and as someone that doesn't own a PS2, having a PS2 built was great for the first year of the PS3's lifecycle. Now, I could care less. I don't even play any PS2 games on my PS3 anymore. And considering that there's over 120 million PS2s out there worldwide, chances are if you own enough PS2 games that BC matters to you....well then you probably own a PS2, no?
BC is only an issue when a console first launches and has no games. After year one hardly anyone cares about it.

to be that other machine that a family owns besides a Wii. The foresight to include Blu-ray was huge and a standard HDD was even better. Tech heads like myself have already up'd their HDD so installs don't worry me at all.
If Home is at least good, I think Sony could emerge as the console of choice for the hardcore, family (again after the Wii), and MS will give us Xbox 720 and hope a 3rd times a charm.
with my cousin who owns a 360 and was talking about getting a PS3. He asked if I'd be getting a 360 for Gears 2. I told him I'd like to pick up a 360 (RROD aside) but I have a feeling the next MS console is 1-2 years away. He told me no way but after I told him how 360 has been out since 05 and the lifecycle of the original Xbox, I think I convinced him.

PS3 has the HD movie format on lock so mom is happy because the family as a whole can spend time together enjoying movies. Dad is happy to have the latest in movie technology and access to the video store.
Teen gets to enjoy all the games that we all know teen enjoys.

Start the new year with the 80gb and get the 40gb out there for 349.99 or so. Like someone said, that kills the elite and the new pro and ups the install base big time. That lead the 360 has would drop even more in the U.S. and PS3 would probably completely claim Europe.
But hey, Sony knows what it's doing here. After a rough start they really turned things around with PS3 and I can't wait to see where the system goes from here on.

I like having a choice. Last gen I was an Xbox guy. This gen I'm a PS3 guy. Each had qualities/features that attracted me to them. Were there just one console I'd basically have no choice.

But to go with you, the PS2 failure rate was bad...but nowhere near this bad. I mean I know not one person with a 360 that hasn't had it break at least once. And once it breaks, forget it. MS is just going to send you another broken or soon to be broken system.
