This "whimsical game" hasn't happened yet, but that type of logic looks backwards if you apply the same reasoning to previous generations.
There are plenty of games on current consoles and modern PCs that couldn't have been done on the PS2/Xbox1/Gamecube. The additional power has allowed for not only better visuals, but improved AI, physics and more.
What makes you so sure we won't see the same thing happen again when the next consoles r...
All hardware has limits, hardware that's half a decade old even more so. You don't have to be an expert at all the platforms to understand that.
I'm all for optimizing, but if some of the "just optimize better" people had their way, we would still be playing 'optimized' PS2 games. Sometimes more power *does* allow for fuller gameplay experiences.
I want to believe that this wont matter, but after DA2, it's hard to shake the feeling that Bioware has just lost touch with what used to make their games great.
Hopefully it's just a feeling...
Here's a clean HD version with some color (in english):

I like how you express your love of GT5 without feeling the need to troll Forza fans or anything.
Sounds awesome. I never cared about High Moon's modern Transformers movie games, but War for Cybertron was surprisingly fun. Another G1 game - especially one as dark as this is sounding - is right up my alley.
I agree, and Turn 10's explanation makes perfect sense given what they're going for. It all comes down to rendering headlights, which can mean a TON of light sources - more than either console can handle if done at full scale.
Take a look at how GT5 handles night racing:

GT5 gets around the problem by only rendering headlights for nearby cars and fading...
Turok 2 was my favorite. The environments were actually pretty atmospheric for the time, and the weapons were awesomely over the top. One the best shooters from the N64 era.
Oh, and the Cerebral Bore is still one of the greatest FPS weapons ever:

It may be a beta, but it's also a marketing tool.
Betas today are part of the hype machine, and access to them is even used as an incentive to get you to purchase other games.
I have no doubt that the final game will be a more polished experience, but Dice hasn't done themselves any favors by sending out the beta in this condition, especially so close to release.
At this point, they should be doing more than offering encouraging words...
I'm missing out on a few games simply because even if I do have the cash to afford them, I don't have the TIME.
I'll wait on Rage because my time will be monopolized by Dark Souls. Same case with the MGS Collection, Rayman Origins, Super Mario 3D Land and some others. If I see a great sale I may give in, but otherwise I'll just wait a few months, given that I'll have more games than I know what to do with this season...
It bothers me more that Skyrim is ranked down at 15th.
Probably Equinox on the SNES. Doubt many here have heard of it, but it was a beautiful isometric puzzle platformer with some intricate challenges.
Loving these newegg deals. Already got BF3 and Uncharted 3 for $12 off, and now AC: Revelations. One of the few sites that offers better discounts than Amazon. Now if they would just do 99¢ release day shipping...
"Syndicate Could Be a Faster and Better Futuristic Action Shooter Hybrid Than Deus Ex"
Faster? Probably. Better? I absolutely loved DE:HR, so that would be quite a feat to pull off.
Regardless, Starbreeze is great at weaving atmospheric first person games with a decent amount of thought going on beneath the surface, so I will be looking forward to this.
Looks significantly better than the E3 footage, although that may just be because this player isn't as terrible.
Honestly, survival horror games are so rare these days that I can look past a few clunky aspects as long as the atmosphere and basic mechanics deliver.
I think Deus Ex: Human Revolution proved that you can stay true to a game's foundations and still be successful in today's market.
This mantra that every game needs to be all about "fast paced action!" to sell is just plain false.
I'm not being down on Absolution. Maybe it will manage to straddle the line and offer both gameplay types successfully, but what we've heard so far leaves me feeling that I should temper my expectations wi...
I wouldn't read too much into it. Could be that the MS certification process just went faster.
Saying both "superior textures" and "exactly the same textures" may seem to be a contradiction, but that's only because we mere mortals cannot comprehend the mind of The Carmack.
The very fabric of reality bends to his will!
If it did, Dark Souls would probably cause many Vitas to be destroyed, as frustrated gamers hurled them across the room after dying for the 1,000th time :)
It's an hour more than the Oblivion speed run, and that game could easily keep you busy for hundreds of hours.
I definitely wouldn't judge a TES game by how long an expert can speed run the main quest.
