UltraNova: Who on earth buys a new 360 when theirs RROD's? Only the very launch consoles are out of warranty and that's only by a couple of weeks. Unless you've ripped off your warranty sticker, you're covered by Microsoft themselves. If you're trying to suggest that the RROD boosted sales, you couldn't be more wrong. If anything, it made people wary of buying a 360 and it cost Microsoft an absolute fortune to fix.
King Dong: Unfortunately, that wouldn't be an ideal solution. They can't very well have dedicated servers in every region of the planet, at some point someone is going to miss out and have to connect to one further away than what would be ideal.
Then, you have the problem of the numbers playing. What happens if too many people in one region are trying to play the game? Would you rather be stuck in a queue or just connect to a server that is a bit further away? And then what about when t...
Umm...fanboys like me? Please, point out where I said anything negative towards either console. In fact, I outrightly said that the PS3 is shaping up to have a very good year. why would a fanboy say such things?
Then you go on to bash the hell out of the 360 and pretend it has had no games on it for the last two years, which is precisely what you were complaining that 360 fanboys did in 2007. You, sir, are a hypocrite.
What a silly debate. The 360 has been out longer, so it's going to have more exclusives, that only makes sense. Yet the PS3 is shaping up to have a very good year indeed, however 10 years from now nobody's going to say the PS3 was better because it had ONE good year of exclusives, people are only going to decide by the end of this generation when all the cards have been played, so to speak. Only a fool would write off either console at this point, especially when instead of blowing their e-pe...
Better netcode can help in online games, but they only work to hide the lag that's there, that's all. All the netcode in the world wont reduce a 200ms ping at all.
Resistance 2, I believe, is hosted on dedicated servers with great connections, which is the only way to actually get 60 players online. You can compare it to gears, but it's not really fair since gears uses a P2P system that relies on the host's connection. You don't ALWAYS get lag, though, get a host with a good conn...
Nothing really special in this article, just some common sense:
Don't download crap while playing online
Use a wired connection (And if you can't use a wired connection, use a STRONG wireless one)
And erm....well that's about it, really. They also mention that Cable is faster than DSL, which is true however most people usually aren't lucky enough to have a choice in the matter. I, myself, am stuck on a DSL connection because the ONE Cable provider in my country sucks....
Ummm...can someone point me to a link or a source where MS has claimed, in the past, to have solved the RROD?
Each time a new motherboard revision came out, MS was very very quiet on the subject. The only reason we know about it is because someone literally opened up a 360 and had a look inside it. Microsoft never announces them because then people would stop buying 360s until they were sure they could get a "better" one. Some people that are in the know do this, but mo...
"It was announced that Europe alone had 1.1 million pre-orders for the game, which is phenomenal when you consider the fact that our brethrens across the pond really don't care for pre-orders as much as we do."
Where on earth did they get that idea? I'm from Europe and ALL of my friends preorder games all the time.
I'm sure a few stores had a couple of consoles lying in the back that someone may have bought. The Warranty IS from date of purchase, not date of manufacture.
The DS is the handheld equivelant to the Wii. Even though the other consoles have better games on them, they don't have the mass, family appeal that the DS and Wii have. The PSP probably already has plenty of better games than the DS, it's certainly got a higher average quality, but the DS isn't going away any time soon at all.
Fuk it, lets get on the spin train, people!
Ok so I got out the ol' calc.exe and did some quick maths to see what kinds of spin we can put on this data (Since apparently Spin == cold, hard fact).
For a start, lets do what I suggested above and compare the number of PS3's per million dollars made to the number of 360's to million dollars made.
Now, I'm going to have to use some approximations here since it's impossible to tell exactly how many of each con...
InfectedDK, you're the one spinning this. You've grouped THREE different consoles into one balloon term. That doesn't prove anything other than you have the capability to add numbers together. One a per-console basis, the 360 outsold the PS3 and maybe that's too hard for you to digest but the numbers are there in black and white. What you could have done is work out how many millions were made for every 1million 360's out there and then done the same for the PS3, maybe than you'd have a bette...
I think it's more interesting that the PS2 brought in more revenue than the PS3. Like a stubborn little turd, it just wont flush away, but considering there's what, 5 or 6 times as many PS2's out there than PS3's, I'd say the PS3 is growing pretty well.
Xbox originals, maybe?
No one game can fully reflect a system's true potential. It takes a number of games of varying genres and tastes to do such a thing. I think the PS3 is doing all right.
If I was a parent and let my child go on Live, I'd be far more worried about the racial slurs and pathetic language people use on the service.
Strange, I've seen many people on live throw around homophobic slurs or claim they've slept with countless women and nobody seems bothered about it. I think Gay people have just as much right to express themselves as anyone else.
Now, make it standalone and see what happens!
I don't know a single parent that actually cares about the age rating on games.
Yes, but of all the 360s out there that were both bought at launch AND died AFTER the warranty has expired, it's only going to be a very small amount and it wont even help Microsoft in the long run. Do you think developers and publishers aren't as smart as you? Do you think they care about how many consoles Microsoft has shipped?
They don't, because they know that figure is meaningless. there's like 120Million+ PS2s out there, yet the PS3 is bringing in more revenue with just 1/6th of t...
