Keep in mind, SF4 was released in Japan in July of 2008, so it's over a year old. Since nothing has even been announced yet, its safe to assume that this update is at least 6 months away, if not more so its not actually THAT quick an update.
Plus it'll take even longer for it to hit consoles.
I think the success of WaWs Zombie mode is a good indication that the "survival" genre has a massive void that needs to be filled. Really, there's not much competition out there, L4D is the only vaguely similar game I can think of.
Funny, I came back to edit my comment to pretty much say what you just said. The iPod wasn't intended to be a gaming platform either, but it happened that way anyway. I think they'll both be about as successful as each other in that specific field. Now, can the Zune dethrone the ipod as a PMP? That's going to be the interesting fight.
The Zune is a PMP first and a games player second. I don't think Microsoft is seriously considering it to be a genuine entry into the portable gaming market, it's just something else to make it sell. It could fail horribly as a gaming machine and still be a successful product.
Primarily, Microsoft are focusing more on digital content, music and videos and that kind of thing.
Tegra (the chipset the Zune HD uses) was designed by nVidia primarily for digital media playback, it...
Or maybe Microsoft was never intending on going up against the iPhone? The Zune is NOT a phone, it is not a phone in any way, shape or form, it's a Portable Media Player. If Microsoft is targeting anything, it's the iPod (and more specifically, the iPod touch), not the iPhone.
The second ANYONE tries to compare the Zune to the iPhone, stop them and call them an idiot, because either they have no common sense or they're blatantly being biased against MS or towards Apple.
Allow me to let you all in on a little secret - as a consumer, you have every right to not buy the game for this price.
This may come as a shock to some of you, but I personally don't believe that many games are worth the full RRP that publishers try to charge for them. ODST is just another title in a long list of games that I would like to play/own, but refuse to pay full price for.
In those instances, I do something that most of you seem to have forgot you can do - wait. This is...
I suppose the author didn't count that it was 3 years between halo 2 and Halo 3, with about a year and a half between Halo 3 and Halo wars?
Considering that Halo Wars is a COMPLETELY different genre, it shouldn't even count towards the series, so that means ODST was 2 years after Halo 3.
I see he's not complaining about Call of Duty, Mario or even Sonic - franchises which have been reiterated at least once a year and sometimes even more often than that.
As much as I think the rose-tinted glasses of time have made Goldeneye look like a better game than it really was, I do think it was a revolutionary game at the time and would happily welcome a port to XBLA. When I first heard about it, I set aside 1200 MS points just for this title, which eventually went onto Shadow Complex (shows how many XBLA titles I ever buy).
I don't understand how anyone could disagree with a modern port of a great game. The only reason I can see is that they're...
"You guys are too much. You can't stand the fact there are people in this world that will not be fooled by Microsoft throwing some money at the gaming world and making shadow puppets on the wall."
I suppose I should point out that it's a portable MEDIA player first and a games handheld second? Otherwise you may as well complain that the PSP is a crappy, oversized MP3 player since that's only a secondary function anyway.
It's called the Zune Marketplace.
Screw internet speeds, I want to stream HD content on my network and Wireless G isn't really enough for that, especially if more than one device is streaming at once! The PS3 is an excellent media streaming device, but to really make the most of it, you currently have to plug it directly into the network.
Not sure I see the point of Wireless-N on the 360, but that's a different matter.
@LCF - I'd like some proof of that claim about "japanese" wireless standards. A...
A select few? I think you'll find the number in the hundreds by now, particularly very large websites. It was even on Live TV!
And how many people have seen Sony's motion control? I have heard almost nothing about it since its announcement at E3, but that's ok because it means sony is focusing on the technology behind it, right?
_vx: Want to link to some articles by actual legitimate journalists that say any of what you're saying? I think you'll find that most wrote about how surprised they were that it works and how well it works.
cmrbe: So since E3, Microsoft has been bringing people from all over to come see Natal. What has Sony been doing? When has Sony been demonstrating the technology?
I'm not trying to say that SMC is in any way inferior to Natal, personally I don't care either way, I...
What? Microsoft has taken probably hundreds of journalists behind closed doors and had them play a couple of titles using this technology, what are you going on about?
We've seen Natal working with Burnout Paradise - a full retail 360 game, what have we seen Sony's Motion Control work with? That's why the title of this article isn't "First game to use Natal/Sony Motion Control", because we've already seen a full 360 title working with it.
There are PLENTY of games out there that look amazing, but have crap gameplay. I'm happy to settle for a game that looks "ok" or even "crappy" but has amazing gameplay. I don't sit and admire the graphics for more than a few mins, especially in a fast-paced game like COD.
Anyone that disagrees - you're not a real gamer. You're the kind of person who'll scoff at all the old classics because they don't look as good as modern games, whereas people like myself ca...
They're probably disagreeing because your comment is almost completely off-topic or because your comparison makes no sense (A multi-platform FPS built on an Engine that dates all the way back to Quake 3 vs. a TPS built on brand-new engine, custom designed for the hardware its running on?).
So it has nothing to do with the fact that the game needs to run at a constant 60FPS? You do realise that if the game was locked to 30FPS, you can essentially have twice the detail on screen at once? Or, alternatively, 60FPS means you have to suffer less detail on screen. If you don't believe me, go look at the DLC maps, they look the same and they're under no such limitations.
If you think Natal is useless, then you're just not thinking hard enough.
Lets take a few examples - Natal can track head movements AND facial expressions. Imagine a game like Oblivion, a free-roaming RPG where you interaction with characters is decided by your facial expressions. If you look angry, they'll get defensive. If you look happy, they'll react accordingly. How cool would it be to load up the game and have the townspeople ask why you look so down? Or watch your enemy co...
"Devs everywhere are already praising Sony Motion Control for being useful and compatible with Wiimote. They're also saying they don't know how to make Natal useful"[citation needed]
Fancy doing it all over again for MW2?
