I take SLIGHT offence to the "making games is easy" quip there. Particularly as the example it uses to prove this is XNA, an entire suite of tools designed to assit you in making games, however it IS severely limited in a lot of ways. I'm not badmouthing XNA at all here, I think it's great, but all those AAA titles out there today would be nearly impossible to make using it.
Making games is HARD, there's a huge amount of information to learn. If you've ever been on a so...
The really funny thing is that all of these fanboys don't realise that what they're doing is harming their own console's image further.
When I see a PS3 fan going on about how the xbox sucks, has no good games and bashes on about how it's "price" is the only thing keeping it afloat (as if in this economy, it's a marginal point or something), it makes me ashamed to own a PS3.
When I see a 360 fan going on about how stupidly expensive the PS3 is, how Blu-ray ...
I LOVE Unreal Tournament. I HATE UTIII. Midway screwed the pooch on this one.
Hopefully Unreal Tournament 3.5 (or whatever they're going to call it, the UT2003->UT2004 equivelant) will make up for it.
Install windows 7!
(Note: There is meant to be humour in this statement, if you didn't think it was funny, please change "Windows 7" to "Windows XP", "OSX", "Linux", "AmigaOS" or whatever Operating system you get hard over).
When you have the technical documentation for something, software emulation IS actually fairly simple to do (relatively speaking, it's not exactly the easiest thing in the world to accomplish). In fact, most development kits for hardware tend to come with an emulator to make developing applications easier.
Le Idiotce most of that comment had nothing to do with what I said o_0
In fact, even that part about the Xbox being killed off was dangerously close to being off-topic. I stated that Microsoft was in this for the long run, the fact that they killed off ONE product doesn't change this because they immediately replaced it with a much better product.
That's like saying Apple isn't in the portable MP3 player business because every time they release a new iPod, the old models are quick...
I wish I had the chance to buy a Zune, but Microsoft refused to sell them outside the US. It's no wonder it's starting to fail.
It's certainly raking in money, but I don't think it's paid itself off by a long shot (That $1billion warranty extension didn't help). I think revenues are in line with or better than the PS3, but the PS3 doesn't have as much "debt" to clear.
Still, it's to be expected in this business, it's not easy to break into and Microsoft must have known that it'd cost them a fortune before doing it.
Probably just as well that Microsoft's playing for the long game, eh Le Idiotce?
It's not TECHNICALLY legal, depending on your point of view, but you can just download an ISO of the game and use your legit CD key. Some people might grumble at this, but the way I see it is that you already paid for it, so nothing is lost.
Last I checked, these kind of "crimes" are more prevalent in the USA than anywhere else, yet they have the exact same games as the rest of the world does. What gives?
Note: Sarcasm.
Uhhh guys I think you've all misunderstood this. Now I'm not certain, but considering that the DLC costs 1600MS points, it does not make any sense to give away 1600Ms points when you buy it.
Instead, this looks to be a GTA: Lost and the Damned branded MS points card, except instead of the ususal 2100 points, it's only 1600 points, the exact cost of the DLC.
Kleptic, I agree with the main sentiment of what you're saying, but one thing I have to ask: Is there really a difference between the "Arbitrary numerical value" of a Gamerscore and an "arbitrary numerical value" of a trophy level?
Really (this is a general comment, not directed at you, Kleptic), I think anyone that tries to argue that one system is better than the other is just looking for a fight. They're the same thing, just implemented slightly differently...
The very first line of this article was enough for me:
"While Sony’s revenues increased this year, Microsoft’s share ended up decreasing in value likely due to decreased Xbox 360 hardware prices."
Firstly, you cannot compare revenues to share prices. Sony's share prices didn't exactly go up either, plus I believe they actually posted an operating LOSS last month. Now I'm not bashing Sony at all here, because there's a very good reason for this - economic re...
Direct link is here: http://www.bgamer.pt/cdkey.... but the site seems to be getting some pretty heavy traffic right now.
I cannot prove nor disprove that claim, but you're very adament that Microsoft are the only company that patents things, even in this industry. They're not, they all patent stuff.
However, I strongly doubt that Microsoft COULD patent this particular feature - there's hundreds, if not thousands, of devices out there that can play streamed media, it would be hard for Microsoft to get a patent on that without getting hit by Prior art. Plus the PS3 already DOES do streamed media, jus...
Ummmm...Nintendo DID patent the controller. They patented the whole console, every single console released (aside from a few of the open source Linux varients) are patented to hell. Ever wonder why the d-pads on nearly every console out there are vastly different? Because they're patented. Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo, Sega, Philips, they all own a plethora of patents regarding games consoles. Don't pretend that Microsoft is more evil and has thus patented more stuff, they've all patented whatev...
Hold on, I need proof, but he's ok to just post a title and talk about it as if there's even a fathom of truth to it? Did you not see the show where he proclaimed that EA would be releasing their own console? How about the one where he claimed that Capcom was becoming exclusive to PSN? Oh don't forget about GTA V being a PS3 exclusive (GTAIV was barely out the door at the time) oh and my PERSONAL favourite - Half Life 3 being released on the 360 to oppose Killzone 2! Not long until KZ2 is out...
The REAL problem is the entire way sites rate games. A good game has to be an 8 or a 9, a great game has to be a 10. There's no leeway in this, but in reality a "good" game should only maybe be a 6 or 7 and a "great" game an 8 or a 9. Those once-in-a-blue-moon outstanding games deserve a 10 but to be honest, we've really not had one of those for quite a few years.
But unfortunately, as long as gamers cry foul when their favourite game in the world only scores an 8 or...
You do realise that this has nothing to do with the 360's SDK, right?
This is designed for hobbyists and such, the real 360 development kit is VERY different (And much more expensive). For a start, this is C#. The 360's Dev Kit is C++. That's instantly an order of magnitude more difficult (Of course as a C++ programmer myself, I'm quite competent with the language, but many people struggle).
