I don't think patents are going to be a problem and even if they were, they could just pay Microsoft royalties to use them.
Creative are rubbish for drivers, but unfortunately the pretty much own most of the gaming sound card market.
There is light, though, if you want a good alternative to Creative's sound cards, I can highly recommend Asus' Xonar series. I have the D2 and it even supports EAX versions greater than 2, plus it's just a damn fine card (has DDL and such).
"says more facts than opinions"
Did you even read the title to this weeks show?
Or last weeks?
Or the week before that?
This guy just comes up with a rumour from thin air, plasters it about to get hype and hits and that's about it. He's a joke and makes gaming journalism look bad.
I know I'm going to get a million disagrees for saying that, but come on - why do the titles to all his shows involve baseless claims, conjecture and rumour?
They ALL use dedicated servers to different extents...
Kharma45, you're forgetting that the software which emulates the Emotion Engine can be upgraded. Sure, it may drop compatibility by 20% NOW, but that doesn't mean a future firmware update can't decrease this number. It didn't drop JUST because it's software, it dropped because the software wasn't entirely accurate, but still good enough that plenty of PS2 games worked.
PS2 emulation on the PS3 is more than possible, the biggest hurdle is emulating the GS from the PS2, partially b...
Player911, I assume you're talking about WinFS. That was never actually a filesystem, rather it was a layer that sat on top of the file system that provided metadata for various files. It was actually finished, but turns out it wasn't all that useful. The technology is now part of SQL server (since it essentially was an SQL database).
The NTFS filesystem has actually changed between 2000 and XP, as well as between XP and Vista, but it's been kept compatible for various reasons.
Vista IS a success, at least commercially. It's selling pretty well, most new PCs still ship with it (And that's where Microsoft makes most of it's money). Plus you have to think long term, a lot of what was done for Vista wasn't JUST for Vista, it was for the NT kernel as a whole. Most of those changes and updates will be around for years to come, though Windows 7, 8 and 9, as well as their server counterparts.
These layoffs would have happened no matter how successful Vista was.
That's a hell of an accusation to make. Care to show some proof of what you're saying?
I happily used Vista for nearly a year before trying the Windows 7 beta. Trust me, there's far more to it than a new taskbar. It's performance is much, much better than Vista (SP1). Obviously you didn't use Vista for all that long because it's "performance" wasn't up to scratch and couldn't really make a valid comparison, but I certainly did.
On this Machine, I have 3 windows installations : XP, Vista and 7 (beta build 7000 of course). I used XP for years, after Vista c...
To sum up the article, he's basically saying "I like Windows 7, but I'm worried that it might be too different from XP".
It's a silly argument, different doesn't mean good or bad, it just means...different. So what if the taskbar works a bit differently, Office 2007 worked differently (the ribbon interface) and although some people grumbled, those who stuck with it nearly all agreed that it was indeed better. Incidentally, the person who made that design choice is the s...
I wouldn't be surprised, this article basically states that except it's not your nose you're blowing.
What's negative about having more sexual partners?
Personally, I don't see the problem >_>
Not really much substance to this article, it can basically be summed up as "Achievements - some people love them, some people hate them. I don't mind them, but some are really hard to get".
Er dude, UT2007 and UTIII are the same game, they just changed the name a bit before it was released.
I got my key!
=D
Hey Ryudo, I don't know what emulator you're using, but PCSX2 works pretty well on my quad core machine. It's not perfect, but that's a software issue, not a lack-of-powerful-hardware issue. The PS3 has the power to emulate a PS2 and then some, trust me.
2012 isn't an unreasonable estimate, either. I can definitely see at least one next-gen console out by then, plus for all the people whining that the 360 doesn't have "longevity", I think it's fair to say it's at least got 3 more years left in it (I'd go so far as to say it's got more than that, but even the naysayers have to agree - 3 years is easily doable). That'll be 7 years for the 360, not a bad run at all.
I wouldn't be surprised if the PS3 didn't last as long as the PS...
That is something I really feel Microsoft don't get enough credit for - they thought most of this stuff out before the 360 was even released. The ingame guide, multiple sign-ins for accounts, cross-game chat, achievements, etc.
Sony's pretty much playing catchup and with every FW, they get one stop closer (Kudos to them), but Microsoft did it all first and the fact that 99% of games support them is the proof.
Credit where credit is due, a lot of thought was put into the software o...
I can has better grammar, please?
Love them or hate them, you have to give Microsoft credit for allowing this in ALL games released for the 360. You can even stream music from your PC while ingame.
I want that feature on my PS3.
