You have to have the killer app. Wii Sports sold the Wii moreso than the Wiimote itself. It gave consumers a concept, a simple pick up and play type game and coupled it with sports everyone is familiar with. It also got the media's tongue wagging and word of mouth on soccer game sidelines.

The problem Natal will face is that it isn't standard with all 360's. That means MS has to convince devs to make a Natal based game and to take the risk on low sales to early adopters. Eit...

Sure you have a choice now to not buy Games on Demand (did anyone notice the acronym is GoD?), but what about in 5 years when we don't have a choice? If these prices succeed and people bite, then when everyone is publishing via download only, what reason will they have not to price them above or at retail? Digital download is supposed to save the publisher money by skipping the middle man and forgoing the expense to box and ship games, those savings should be passed on to the consumer.

LBP is a game that appeals to a wide array of ages. The Lego games also have a wide appeal. Wii Sports would be a very good candidate (haven't played Sports Resort yet, but assume it is more of the same)

It's a freakin pulse reader, how excited did you expect people to get? What will they have next year, the blood pressure cuff attachment?

We're incredibly excited about what Games on Demand means for digital distribution, and will continue to evaluate and evolve the service to meet market and consumer demands.

what he really said:

We're incredibly excited about what Games on Demand means for digital distribution, and will continue to charge at or above retail prices even though we do not have to incur costs of physical media, packaging, shipping and retail overhead but can still get away with charging ...

The problem is now we have a choice to go buy it used or at retail, but what happens 5 to 10 years when digital download is the only option and the trend is set to charge at or more than what you would have gotten at retail? There is no reason for a digitally downloaded game to cost retail prices when the publisher skips the cost of boxing, shipping, and retail markup (middle man)

Plus the competition on the retail shelf is what helps games drop considerably in price. People ar...

Lol. I was in the same boat. My wife said, "yeah right". Then the next issue had the disclaimer that it was sent automatically, so I was off the hook. I told her we need to keep them around for the articles :)

Oh come on. CEO's make big bucks, that doesn't mean anything. What's the point of this article?

The part that has me so ticked off on this whole MW2 price increase is the blatant price hike on a popular item. MW2 is not the most expensive development project. Give me a break. They claim the price hike is to cover the huge expense, but this game has an existing engine, experienced developers, probably reuse of existing resources. This is just an excuse to squeeze the consumer. I don't go to the movies and pay $10.00 more because it's a popular movie, nor do they say well this movie ...

I do not like digital download. I know many people here do, but I think the disadvantages far outweigh the advantages. I play alot of rental games via Gamefly. Are we going to lose rentals altogether? I know with movies downloaded, you have x amount of days to watch them when rented and then they are gone, does that work with games? I have 7 days to play it or it is gone? That doesn't work well in my household as some rentals might not get played for weeks when Gamefly sends them.

Prices on games drop like no other product once it goes into the tail of the buying cycle and new titles need to fit on shelves. Look at a Mirrors Edge that is not even a year old and can be bought for $19.99 which is $40.00 less than the launch price. Dead Space is $29.99 which is $30.00 less. Wait a couple of years and Oblivion GOTY is $29.99, had you bought it new with added DLC, you would have spent close to $100.00. The point is publishers can raise the price, but if you hold out and...

What does the slim cut out to make it smaller or is it just a sleeker model? I haven't been reading all the slim articles so my apologies if it has been wrung over the coals already.

Oops, sorry. I should have hit refresh. Your imagery was better then mine :)

Ugh, this is why I hate digital downloads. It puts all the power in the hands of the publisher. The whole argument to going this route was to save costs by skipping retail, skipping shipping, skipping packaging and materials, but the costs savings aren't there. At least when it ships to retail you can buy it used or rent it if you want and get it at the price you desire, not what the publisher chooses.

I hope this game flops and Activision gets sued by parents whose kids are putting their heads through their TV as they fly off their boards.

I'm officially calling it. It's the Cliffy B effect. There is always one tard in the news that irks fans to no end. Once they leave the spotlight another idiot steps in. Cliffy B was there until GeoW2 released, then we had to deal with Greenburg who pops up like a Wack-a-Mole every quarter. Now Bobby Kotex is plastering his muppet face and vomiting his absurd remarks all over the internet.

This guy is everything that is wrong with big business and games. Look at how EA has turned in just a few short years. EA has EA Partners which looks to partner and broaden its game offerings which could mean more opportunity for experimental or non standard games. They even have internal studios doing work on new IP's like Dead Space. What does Activision say? We only support our proven franchises and we will exploit them into the ground. How many Guitar Hero releases have come about i...
