Mainstream means the market in which the makers of consoles/games can make the most money.

Games companies and console manufacturers now make the most money off DEC and online subscriptions so the markets which have the infrastructure in place and the customers who will pay for online services will get served first (US and UK).

Everywhere else's needs come second since hardware sales don't generate enough cash flow without people paying for xbox ...

Cell phone, I guess I should have been more specific.

I don't have reliable high speed Internet at home and cannot use Internet services on any of my other devices other than my cell, which of course has a very limited gb plan and would cost more to tether with.

I have no Internet so.... not so much actually

Your right about companies seemingly trying to force our enjoyment of games online...

If this sets the trend this gen then consoles will force those who enjoy single player offline games into other markets, like handhelds for example.

Seems we (meaning those of us who enjoy an offline game) don't matter anymore.

The problem is with the way review scores are read. On a scale of 1-10 it is understood that anything below a 6 or 7 isn't worth playing and scored of less than 4 are just insults to a developer on their chappy job.

In reality a 5 should be average with only the better games scoring a 6 or higher with only anything below a 3 being warranted as bad or awful.

If reviewers were not slated for using the whole scale (Tom chick comes to mind, he always catches ...

So what your saying is if I own a bunch of movies on say vhs a format I no longer have a player for then I should be able to stream those movies for free from a service like netflix.

If your backwards logic doesn't get you infuriated at netflix then it shouldn't ps now either.

You pay for a streaming service end of story, individual content and ownership doesn't matter just like with netflix.

If your looking for a way to tear apa...

It's a Netflix like service... Netflix has a bunch of movies I already own and thousands that I dont. Netflix don't charge me to watch movies I already own they charge me to access their library regardless of what I own.

You pay for the streaming service not the individual games.

Netflix doesn't let me watch movies I own for free... I pay for the streaming service not individual content. The same is true of playstation now.

You can use a hml to hdmi cable to mirror your phone to your tv. Would make it into a mini Console

I think you have that backwards, at e3 everyone who played it praised ryse son of Rome and it was THE game discussed in these pointless fanboy flame war discussions.

Then it came out to mostly terrible reviews and again became THE game to flame about but for the opposite reasons.

The gaming industry is out to make money, of course it's going to hype it's games and inflate how awesome they are. Wait until titanfall is released before you jump to its de...

I agree totally. I was sad this game didn't sell more than it did.

Definitely deserves a sequel of some kind.

That is why I brought up ryse son of Rome which at e3 received similar praise. The hype machine cannot be followed blindly.

4468d ago 13 agree12 disagreeView comment

This is the problem with hype. When. Titanfall was announced people went nuts crazy over how awesome it was gonna be 3 en though we knew next to nothing about it, it was slated as a major system seller from the get go.

Just like ryse and look how that turned out...

This is why I don't get excited about new ip's unless their are some reliable reviews out in the wild.

If this game ends up sucking then microsofts "but but we have t...

If ISP's succeed in bringing in tiered Internet (I've noticed time Warner Cable trying and have heard of Verizon doing the same) an all digital future may simply be to expensive for many gamers.

It may be the future if the current ecosystem stays the same but companies are going to profiteer where they can. Don't expect Internet usage costs to stay so affordable.

I think it's partly a multi player online game thing as he mentions "teabagging" as being popular in online matches. I have read some awful replies to gaming articles and on forums but on places like n4g the mods seem pretty good at keeping thing relatively civil. I guess it depends on which ponds you choose to dip your toes.

For me the question isn't do they make navigation easier it's whether or not motion Controls effect gameplay in a positive, meaningful and intuitive way. I don't want them to feel tacked on or forced. I want them to feel fresh and new and revolutionary.

The navigation is very much second to that, if microsoft manage to prove kinect as a gaming innovation then it will sell more xbox ones to the gaming crowd. If not then Meh at least the people using it as a central...

I'm pretty sure the stuff he is disgusted with exists in Internet culture and it isn't something that is specific to gamers... it's what comes with the anonymity of no one really knowing who says what.

He is still a gamer he just doesn't want to admit that people can be vile and disgusting.

Trust me the online gaming industry will be hit hard sometime this gen. Internet service providers have noticed how much more data gamers and people who stream movies and TV a lot are using and they are pushing for tiered Internet so they can make more money off people who use more data.

People who play online will be crunched financially and hopefully it will hurt the online streaming and gaming industry enough that they realize that always online and cloud services while c...
