You're confusing story with background information, and even then, you're being ridiculous. Halo, Gears of War, Mass Effect etc. didn't explain the motives of their various enemy races until later in the franchise.

Halo: Combat Evolved introduced us to the Covenant, and then didn't tell us anything about them. It didn't tell us why they were attacking humanity, they didn't give us details about their nature or structure, or any history.

This is pretty accurate. Though, I would've included Metacritic's poor user review system too. I don't know how many times I've seen people post 0's on games they've obviously never even played just to troll. Destiny is a pretty big example. As soon as Metacritic began allowing user reviews for the game, 0's began pouring in. It wasn't until people who actually played the game scored it that things balanced out, and even now the user score is ridiculously low b...

Another bunch of reviewers who repeat the same tired lines. I really, really couldn't care less.

Fortunately, this phenomena is mostly limited to the online gaming community. If Destiny was really as bad as the sh*tstorm online would lead us to believe, the game would be dead already. Instead, it's still going strong and even websites who gave it low scores have Destiny articles on their front pages every day. This just tells you that there is a massive disconnect between the online minority and the actual majority of gamers, and that the same disconnect exists between the majority a...

I personally don't feel that way, at least in regards to the main plot. For example, the Dark Within really sets the game's story in motion. The Speaker asks us to look into something the Fallen are interested in at the Skywatch, and we discover the Hive have appeared on Earth for the first time in centuries. Our Ghost, the Speaker, and the Vanguard don't direct us to the Moon to investigate their reappearance, but the threat they pose is made plain.

The game exp...

Depends. In Skyrim, I personally play the main quest all the way through before I ever touched the side quests because there was no reason for my character to be joining the Thieves Guild, the Dark Brotherhood, or the College while I was supposed to be training with the Greybeards, or while I was searching for Alduin's Wall.

And I'm honestly curious. What made the plot so incoherent to you? I felt it flowed naturally as long as I played the missions in the proper ord...

I never said they didn't play the story. I said they didn't play the story while following the plot. Like pretty much every site out there, they more or less did the missions randomly. The main plot unfolds in the following missions.

Old Russia: A Guardian Rises, Restoration, and the Dark Within

The Moon: The Dark Beyond, The World's Grave, The Sword of Crota, The Shrine of Oryx, and the Chamber of Night.

Venus: A Stranger'...

Frankly, the reviews I've seen about Destiny only show me that I was right to stop bothering with them. For example, after watching IGN's in-progress review with Destiny, I was astounded to see that they complained about the game's story even though they did the missions without following the game's actual plot lines. It's like complaining about Skyrim's story when you went off and joined the Thieves Guild when you were supposed to be trapping a dragon in Whiterun to g...

I wouldn't say Destiny is unbalanced. Shotguns are lethal at close range in any game that has them. Sniper rifles are always one shot kills with a head shot, and they kill in two with a body shot. Fusion rifles are a bit more annoying, but once you realize how they work, they can be avoided pretty easily. And the supers are basically Destiny's version of killstreaks.

As long as you know how to play, you're fine.

Thing is, Destiny was never 'next gen'. It was always cross gen. It's been swirling around in Bungie's head since at least 2009. When the game was originally revealed, the next gen consoles hadn't even been announced yet.

Depends. If you mean the multiplayer, sure. But if you played Halo for the campaign, Halo 4 was one of the best.

ME3 was terrible though.

Which is sad. Frankly, I really don't care if a game redefines a genre or pushes the medium forward. It's nice when it actually happens, but a good game is still a good even if it's not revolutionary. Lately, it seems like that has changed. Nowadays, if a game doesn't reinvent the wheel, it's called mediocre. Meanwhile, an average hack n' slash game like Shadow of Mordor gets +9 scores because it brings something new and shiny.

This is the truth. I don't know how many times I've seen people bashing Destiny, while at the same time having so little clue what they are talking about. I've seen people claim the story sucks and that it's 'disjointed'. When I ask what order they played the missions in, the answer is always the same. They didn't distinguish between the main plot, and the game's various side plots.

For example, in Old Russia once you complete the Dark Within ...

Okay, seriously? Only two of those events involve DLC. The House of Wolves and the Dark Below. The rest are likely to be added content like the Vault of Glass. Also, anyone who thinks Destiny is 'lacking content' has to be joking. It's the single biggest FPS I've ever played. On Hard, it takes me anywhere between 16 to 18 hours to exhaust all missions and strikes on a single play through.

1. The Lore: I agree with this, somewhat. The information contained within the cards should have been placed in-game. Why they chose to only make it available through a mobile app or on Bungie's website is beyond me. However, the information contained within the cards aren't overly important, so it doesn't detract from the experience overly much.

2. NPC Interaction: Did the author of this article stop to think for a moment that this was intentional? Destiny isn&#...

And yet, games like Skyrim shipped so full of bugs that for many people it was near unplayable, but it got 9's all over the place and it was GOTY on several sites.

It is. However, your reputation is not. Once you hit level 3 with your faction's reputation, you get a free legendary item, and each rank you hit after that, you get another. With the right mix of public events, bounties, and patrols, you can easily hit one rank up a day. Which means your getting one legendary item a day.

No good press? Aside from the reviews, it's been on the front page of every major gaming site since launch.

You don't have to play the Crucible to get faction points. You can get them for performing bounties, completing public events, gathering raw materials and more.

This is hilarious. How long is it going to take for people to realize that loot was never intended to be the primary means of ranking up beyond level 20? They are surprise rewards for completing tasks, nothing more and nothing less. If you want to get the best gear, you have to rack up points for the various factions. You'd think people would've realized this instead of beating their heads against the wall trying to farm engrams at Murder Cave.
